  • Isn't this thumbnail, hysterical?! Oh, the drama. But this is a serious topic: I tested the water in a recent RV Park and found troubling levels of sulfate and bacteria including E.coli.. Ewwwwww.
In today's video, I'll tell you about that, the tests I used and the 4 ways you might be getting water if you camp in an RV Park or campround.

People would be shocked if they tested their home water as well. It’s been crap for 50 years & has needed more & more treatment & filtration. My mom distilled all our tap water used for consumption & we lived in a Midwest town. I use a Berkey & never stick my feet in any of our stream or rivers I used to be able to wade & swim in as a kid. Corporate & factory farms have destroyed our safe water.

I agree with you, when I moved to Georgia. I couldn't narrow down why I was getting stomach aches. Come to find out, it was the tap water. I buy bottle water because filters are expensive over time. Or, I boil my water first before drinking it. Brushing teeth is fine, but drinking a glass of water in Georgia, is out of the question unless you boil or filter, or buy bottled water.

I have a filter canister that I put between the city water and my trailer. I have been interested in an under sink treatment like Acuva, although a Burkey is a simple non mechanical solution that would also work.
People up the valley from my house have a lot of arsenic and other contamination in their wells which I think is a legacy of all the mining activities in the late 1890’s and early 1900’s. The government did a Superfund cleanup of one of the mine tailings that was leaching into the two local rivers that the creeks go into. A lot of people fish them, but I wouldn’t eat those fish.
I imagine that Colorado and other western states are going to have similar issues with water from wells, or some rivers. I remember a recent story where runoff from oil production was going into the White, or Green river in Utah which goes into the Colorado. There also was a lot of Uranium mining in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Gold mining uses Cyanide and gold mines are everywhere. Coal ponds occasionally contaminate water in West Virginia, but 100-200 years ago coal was mined in a lot of places where people now live. There is an issue with suburbs being built above old coal mines south of Seattle.
I never assume water is good and carry a portable filter just in case when traveling.

I never drink the water! I always bring my own bottled water. I've had issues in my sticks and bricks with water quality. It was a rude awakening! Should have also checked for arsenic. Lots of areas have arsenic in the ground water especially in Florida. Put your filter at the campground specked not at the hook up to your vehicle.

Robin, you always go above and beyond. I live in a small farming village. On our farm, we have always had a well but we filter three times and our water has never been bad or had a bad smell. We watch because our neighbors down the road about 5 miles had a bad incident with their well years ago. It went bad and their daughter contracted typhoid fever. It was awful. We get a state mandated water report from the city with the results of testing the wells and water sources here every other month. I will read it a little more carefully next time around.

I'll spare you the ugly details, and just say: well water - never again. And who the heck puts their poop tube up to a public water source?! Nasty! Buy a gallon sprayer, fill it with bleach, dish detergent, and water, and clean the tube at the dump station. I’m not one to be cynical or suspicious, but honestly, one has to be aware of one’s environment and ask yourself, “Is there anything about this water (food, gas, location, person, whatever) that isn’t quite right?” And if the answer is, “yes!” then follow up, find out, and adjust course to protect yourself! Well done, Robin! And, as usual, presented in a clear, organized fashion. Thank you!

Make sure you never ever drink water from your RV freshwater tank. If you must, run it through a verified filter system. I have heard to Burkees are good but I don’t have any experience with that so do your own research.
Personally I always kept fresh drinking water in a bpa-free (there are there promise with that too) container with a spigot next to my sink and used that for my dog’s water dish and my cooking and own drinking.
I had my freshwater tank spring a leak I’m on my trips and Mobile Rv mechanic replaced it. Was so glad I was not drinking from it because it was lined with mold and green stuff. Scary.
If you’re using water right from the campground source into your RV sink bypassing your tank, just make sure in advance it’s good water.

Thanks for the great video! This is so important! I always fill up bottles of water at home. I am too paranoid to drink RV park water for this very reason. Needless to say I am not a full timer. Safe travels. 🌞🦋💖

We found running our Berkey in a couple states - AZ and southern FL - actually ruined our filters in the Berkey. We’ve resorted (and tested) to RO water full stations in this cases.

p.s., the Berkey does not remove Total Dissolved Solids. That was most of our issue in those two places.

Water is going to be a major factor for states in the next 10 years. I had been on Planning and Zoning in my small town for 15 years in an Eastern state. Water has been a major factor here and it has only gotten worse in the last 5 years. Global warming is adding massively to this. The lower the water table, the worse the water, the more chemicals have to be used.

I thought the global warming narrative was that it caused the polar ice caps to melt and INCREASED water levels...?

I would NEVER use water anywhere unless it's bottled. Especially in rv parks. I've worked in quite a few, and can tell ta now, they don't care most times. Even house water in a neighborhood is normally filled with chemicals and such. Sulfur and iron are common in well water also. Just buy your water if you plan to drink or cook with it. Showering should be ok, but filters are necessary. Be careful out there, and thanks for all your informative vids!

Too bad you’re not a germaphobe like me… OF COURSE you spray the waters spigot with alcohol before you hook up your own hose! Not to mention use a water splitter valve so you hook up your drinking hose and black tank designated hose to a specific side of your splitter (for me my drinking hose is white, so White is RIGHT and the black hose one goes of the LEFT because you want black tank to “leave”..) Anyway, I also ALWAYS run the water from the spigot for a minute or two and then capture it in an empty drinking water bottle because I’ve found that sometimes the water straight from the spigot is discolored or oddly bubbly. I want to know this BEFORE I just mindlessly hook up to it, or to fill my tank. Oh, and I also ALWAYS use a water filter for good measure. I could go on and on…

Good morning I love your information that you share with us. I was going to say to you I follow another couple and they put a filter and then they connect their holes and the camper has its own filter I believe and then the water ii put into a Berkey and that is how they use their water. I Don’t think it’s too much is never too much is your health
