I think the idea of Ralsei wanting a darkner army is silly.
What I don't think is silly is Ralsei, a being of pure darkness, potentially wanting to absorb a massive amount of darkners.
    In the words of Flowey:
"... you know what the best part is? It's all your fault.
It's all because you MADE THEM love you.
All the time you spent listening to them...
    Encouraging them...
    Caring about them...
Without that, they wouldn't have come here. And now, with their souls and the humans' _(*lightners'?)_ together...
I will achieve my REAL FORM."
Though that being said, maybe that'd be a bit too obvious for Toby Fox.
Thing is, we saw so little of Asriel Dreemurr in Undertale, we had more experience with him as Flowey than anything else. Ralsei's demeanor is so far removed from Flowey, that the idea of Ralsei doing a Flowey-esque betrayal rarely seems to cross peoples minds. It's the main reason why I still think Ralsei will betray us, it'll still be a strong betrayal. Because even if youre fully expecting it, its still going to be _heart wrenching_ when it happens. Toby's set up with Ralsei is perfect, I _hate_ and _fear_ the idea of Ralsei wearing a grin and going _"You IDIOT."_
But thats just my take lmao.

And the knight and Kris are separated beings but in the same time are the same (still dont have a headcannon or a theory of what it is exactly).
The fact if Ralsei being Knight's son is coming because of him saying he is the "prince" of darkness. And we already saw a son betraying his own father, like Lancer and the King that i forgot its name lmao.

I like to think that he's genuinely kind by nature, but there's things that stick out to me as very odd.
    I think
    a. He wants Kris to be his friend
    b. He knows we aren't Kris
    c. He's talking to Kris when we're not there
By assuming these things to be true, a lot of his behavior begins to line up.
    Some of many examples:
-Being oddly pushy about the player watching the Susie/Noelle cut scene
-His reactions to the player's interactions with the dummy (if you hug him instead of attacking it, etc.)
    -Kris and Ralsei tea
-His reactions to the photo he and Kris take during the swan tunnel (speaking of which, the title of the song that plays in the background is 'tunnel if love.' I can't be the only one this sticks out to)
-Blushing when the player stands close to him
    -Being oddly self-aware
-Being aware of the light world
One of these I'd like to point out in particular is blushing when the player is near him for an extended period of time. Even though he's fully aware that we as the player control most of Kris's actions (as proven by his dialogue before the Susie/Noelle cutscene), he still doesn't mind when we force Kris to do things like hugging him a lot.
This, in my mind, says that he's got two conflicting desires here. To be friends with Kris and to know the actual Kris. Though he likes it when 'Kris' does overly affectionate things, he knows it's not really them. He wants Kris's genuine friendship, so enjoying the player's friendship makes him feel guilty. He doesn't know if the real Kris actually cares for him (which the player can see from the teas and other dialogue that Kris's feelings are mixed).

A lot of people ask: “if he isn’t betraying anybody, how can he go into other dark worlds without getting turned to stone?” The answer is simple, since ralsei was created in the true dark world, he is made of full darkness. All the "hints" that Ralsei is secretly evil can easily be explained:
Ralsei knows stuff we don't...so what? He's a walking lore encyclopedia, why overwhelm the heroes with information when he can instead tell them what they need to know as soon as it's relevant to their quest (That's how tutorials work).
Ralsei's "don't think about it" comment could be interpreted, not as misdirection, but as him wanting to make sure Kris is ok. Also...Ralsei thinks he knows everything about this quest, if he's faced with something he doesn't understand, he'll just try to find a reasonable explanation ("he was just a corrupted program").
Ralsei's only secret could be his low self-steem: he spent his whole life waiting for the prophecy, he holds this belief that darkners exist to serve lightners. At first Ralsei tried to hide his face and be as nice as possible because he wanted Kris and Susie to like him. Only now he's gaining some sense of individuality, being more like himself, but he's still unsure of what it even means to be Ralsei beyond his "purpose".

Ralsei seems to be self aware like Spamton or Jevil. But unlike the secret bosses Ralsei isn’t going insane. In fact Ralsei doesn’t seem to care all that much about being in the game, he is very quick to dismiss the implications of the Spamton battle. It’s pretty weird considering what that knowledge does to other characters in Deltarune and Undertale.
It even goes all the way back into chapter 1 where he mentions what keys to press and such, Susie even points it out and Ralsei just ignores her.
So coming back to this I have discovered some new* evidence. It has been pointed out that other characters such as Lancer have made references to the inventory system and such. Even in chapter 1 Lancer mentions how to open the inventory. That's not entirely unusual though, in Undertale some Froggits mention button commands as a funny ha ha joke. However they do not exactly know the specifics of what it actually means, this seems to be the case with Lancer. That was probably the case with Ralsei in chapter 1 as well, but I think that this has changed in chapter 2.
Ralsei appears to have at least some sort of knowledge of the player, this is what sets him apart from Lancer and other characters. One of the stronger pieces of evidence is when Ralsei tells Kris to close their eyes giving the player a Susie cutscene. Some people say this is intended to distract the player, since we come back when Ralsei and Kris are in mid conversation. There's more to it than that though, again Ralsei is very quick to dismiss the implications of the Spamton NEO fight despite Kris being very distressed (its also a more serious scene so its highly doubtable that its a joke). Ralsei is also very reluctant to go against the player's orders, he spends all of chapter 1 judging Susie for fighting yet never questions when the player tells him to fight (also in chapter 2 he doesnt want to learn R action).
In general, aware or not Ralsei knows WAY more about how the world of Deltarune works than anybody else we've met the Prophecy, the Roaring and all. He also appears to have the abillity to see things that other characters cant (he mentions Susie's ride with Noelle and Lancer being on the cliff in chapter 1 despite not being able to witness either of those events and probably wasn't told about them).
So my take on all this is: Ralsei isn't evil (obviously*) but is probably aware of the game or at least the player. It seems that Ralsei believes that he has a certain role to play, it plays into his conflict about what is "Ralsei like" and such. I believe at some point later on in the story Ralsei will probably become much less focused on all this destiny and prophecy stuff and become much more independent like Susie is, maybe even standing up to the player (at least in a snowgrave like route or fighting heavy neutral route).

It's because the whole interaction came off as super manipulative. Telling someone not to worry about something like that when they're that distressed over the issues is COMPLETELY the wrong way to handle the situation and it comes off as super insincere. Even for someone you don't know well. If someone said something like that to me when I was having an anxiety attack, it would honestly just tick me off. It's one of the big no-nos of what not to say to a person in a significant amount of distress. It just belittles their problems and makes them feel bad for being distressed when it's really not something they can just stop thinking about. That's not how people work. It's actually healthy for them to acknowledge that feeling and find the root of it so they can genuinely move on. If they try to stop thinking about it, it just gets bottled up and never goes away. Thing is, most people who say that kind of stuff have good intentions and don't know any better, but the way Ralsei acted in that situation was just super fishy, whether he had good intentions or not. This lines up with
    1. Ralsei just leaving his clothes when he faints, as it could be his "base form".
    2. Why Ralsei is so similar to asriel, in terms of personality, how his name is just asriel scrambled, everything.
Kris not liking Ralsei that much is his denial and sadness over asriel leaving for college and probably not being the same after coming home.

The biggest problem with Deltarune theories like Ralsei Is Evil is that people are straight up ignoring the text of the game. Ralsei is explicitly opposed to new dark fountains being created.
If Ralsei ends up being a villain, it's not going to be because he wants to open up dark fountains. It'll probably be because he finds out Kris is responsible for them. Even then, Ralsei is going to have to go through a major character arc to not immediately forgive Kris for making fountains.

To be honest, I always felt something was up with Ralsei - though being evil was never my original thought. After chapter 2,he certainly has said some things..but I don't think he's bad in the way people are expecting.
I think of Ralsei now in 2 ways:
    - His kindness is real, but he ends up enjoying having company so much that he's basically a people pleaser. Ralsei definitely seems to know things, but rather than hiding it for bad reasons - he might think "hey, if Kris forgets - we can be happy together!" which basically equals to toxic positivity.
Another is a fun one I concluded today on a thought; Susie has been shown defying us (the player)'s control throughout both chapters so far, Kris is controlled, but Ralsei...obeys because he wants to? Which leads into a big random theory. Ralsei has feelings (whether romantic or platonic) towards US, and wants to be closer to us. Ralsei is telling Kris to not worry because he's scared of getting rid of US, the player. Our options towards Ralsei can almost always be affectionate, while the game implies that Kris is the opposite. If Ralsei is self-aware of our presence, perhaps he wants to work with us instead.
(of course, if we also go by undertale logic: The genocide route focuses on you/chara taking down everyone with flowey's help - That dynamic could be reoccurring with Kris/us + Ralsei instead. Heck, this Ralsei theory could even be how he acts in genocide).

People say Ralsei being suspicious after the Spamton Neo fight, and prompting Kris to "imagine what Susie is doing",
I personally believe that WE're the bad guy, y'know? It's more prominent in the *other* route. After all, Kris doesn't enjoy being controlled by us, whether it's good for them or not. So it's no surprise that Ralsei wants to comfort Kris and disregard the player's suspicions by making the player happy, and comforting Kris in the process.
For the one about Kris hating Ralsei and we're forcing him to hug, if that is the case, how come Kris allows Toriel to hug him at the beginning of Chapter 1? And after getting a hug from Ralsei at the end of the Spamton NEO fight, how come Kris asks Susie themselves for a hug??? The way Asgore hug Kris was drastically different from everybody else's hugging. The man swing the kid around like a floppy toy, cmon.
Lastly, I think the Tea Situation, personally I think that giving 60 hp from Ralsei tea really just means Kris has not fully warmed up to Ralsei yet. Like the video says, how would you feel if you walked into the school janitorial closet and met some creature who looks almost identical to your brother, whom been to University for quite a while? IF Kris truly hates Ralsei (for some reason idfk), why would the tea even give them HP in the first place? Wouldn't it instead take away HP like Spamton's poison potion?
(also there's no way ralsei's asriel, alphys specifically says "staying up and talking to asriel *again* ?", which implies kris HAS done that before. no way asriel would sneak back to the town, go to some other word and pretend to date your own brother.

I've thought about it and I'd like to believe that Ralsei's suspicious-ness is intentional not in setting him up as a villain, but setting US up. Ralsei is aware of the player, Souls, etc., and potentially about Kris being under our control. There have been two identical scenes of Ralsei speaking to Kris while we were watching Susie in the game thus far, both ending with Ralsei say "...so that's why" as Susie came into scene. We don't have any clue what it could be that they're talking about, but we for sure know that Ralsei is doing it intentionally to distract us while he speaks to Kris about something that we can't know. This could also be why he shrugs off the Spamton NEO fight as to not say too much that indirectly involves us, the player, that could be harmful information to them if we knew. I'm excited to see how this all unfolds, and maybe another scene similar to them in a future chapter has us back to controlling Kris while Ralsei is in the middle of saying something important and startles him

Ralsei probably knows more than he's letting in, definitely. I like to think that he's somewhat aware of Kris's situation, playing puppet to his own soul. It would explain why he redirected the player to Susie to spectate upon splitting up- to have time to speak with Kris about it without the player knowing. It would also explain why he tried to brush off the Spamton Neo situation- he saw the parallel between Spamton's and Kris's problems and didn't want his friends to have to linger on that for too long. They may not want Susie to know about the strings that control them, just so she doesn't have to be burdened with the knowledge that many of their choices don't matter and they're always being manipulated.
Ralsei is clearly aware of how people view him, hence why he says things like "does this make me look cute?" When being given the white ribbon in chapter one and "I'd love to be pet by a hand that large" (sorry for the inaccuracy of the wording of the quotes) when seeing the stone hands in Queen's castle. The scene that proves this most of all is when he's in the acid tunnel with Kris and having their conversation. Why he says "I don't really know what being Ralsei-like is". He's trying to be what he thinks he has to be, and many people end up having this sort of mindset in reality.
Ralsei may just be a goat boy trying to help a tedious situation and make things better.
I have to disagree with you on the fountain, though. Queen explained that someone could use determination to make a fountain, and explained the exact details that matched what Kris did at the end of chapter one. There's alot more solid evidence pointing to this not being a fakeout, and I really don't think Toby is faking us out a second time in a row with the same thing. Hell, Chapter one was even entirely a fakeout since Kris probably made the cyber world fountain during that time period.
I think Kris himself is temporarily gaining freedom from our control to make these fountains. I have a bit of an idea that Kris is making these fountains in order to gain permanent freedom from our control. Perhaps the nature of the fountains themselves will do this. Or maybe he's looking for something specific. Or he might just need to keep the game going to stall for time. Another thing is Ralsei. Ralsei could be his key to freedom, and to keep seeing him without the player figuring out the real reason behind it, he needs to keep making these fountains and adventures to occupy us.
I like to think Ralsei and Kris are attempting to come up with something.
But then again, after seeing what happened to Spamton after he managed to cut his own strings...
Well, it's no wonder Kris was yelling

Here's a VERY small point that I thought I'd bring up.
When calling for friends in the Snowgrave Spamton NEO fight, *Kris* calls for Susie and then Ralsei, followed by *you* calling for Noelle.
Why would Kris call Ralsei if he completely dislikes or fears him?
What are all your thoughts on this?

I have been waiting for someone to bring up the fact, that Ralsei comes from the True Dark Fountain for the longest time.
Side note: the reason Ralsei knows kris and Susie's names "before they met" is because Ralsei is made out of the wearable red horns, that Kris had when they were little. (talk to Toriel chapter 1 apologue)
It's never been stated officially in game that, that's what Ralsei is made out of, but what characters can you think of that Toby fox has even been involved with that have red horns, horns and general are a very scarce characteristic of Toby Fox characters. Granted ralsei's horns are more like pink, but what's pink besides light red.

My theory is that ralesi is bound by the prophecy and as such feels he has to hide the truth and might be forced to betray us. After all, in chapter 1 Ralesi says that after they pass the great door everything is foretold exactly by the prophecy. I think that he will ultimately have to betray us, but not because he wants to, but because he feels he has to, in order to avert the roaring.
So when the player zones out and focuses on Susie I think Ralesi is confessing the truth about everything to Kris because he feels bad about what he is doing and he knows Kris can never tell anyone. Ralesi wants to be good and help as many people as he can, but the prophecy which he clearly knows in full, but we don't know binds him.

The theory of him telling Kris to open dark fountains is pretty silly considering all the effort he puts in to stop exactly that. If anything, it'd be more likely that he knows (or at least suspects) that Kris is opening fountains and he's telling them why they shouldn't do that. It could explain the tea theory, since Kris would probably be a bit disgruntled with someone if they told them not to open more dark fountains.

I am still really suspicious of Ralsei. One of the best forms of deceit would be to giving information willingly, while still probably keeping enough that still gives him an advantage. He is far too nice to not be suspicious. Plus after the Spamton Neo fight, his lack of empathy towards Spamton, calling him a corrupted program when Spamton was quite literally in Kris' same kind of situation, being controlled by an outside force with only small moments when he is himself, and calling for help. Ralsei even tries to force Kris to think about him basically from his dialogue, when Kris finds out they're not the only one in that kind of situation. I have been suspicious of Ralsei ever since chapter 1, and this chapter only raised my suspicions more. Ralsei is still hiding things, and i swear he's going to pull a Flowey on us near the end. The fact he kept the roaring quiet until now is concerning in itself because what if Ralsei wants to recruit more darkners so he stands a better chance against Susie, and Kris later. Perhaps winning them over somehow, and turning them against the lightners, but he doesn't want it to happen this soon. He wants to recruit more darkners, but in order to not be suspicious to Kris, Susie, and perhaps the player, he puts on this act. He won't tell us important things unless the situation calls for it. Like with Queen, and Berdly. He probably would've kept the roaring to himself if Berdly wasn't so stupid as to attempt to open another fountain this soon.

    • @matti.8465

I'm gonna give my two cents on this if you don't mind.
      1. Why is it weird for Ralsei to share certain information only when it's necessary for their quest? His purpose on the team is serving as a walking lore encyclopedia for the heroes. Why would Ralsei ovelwhelm Kris and Susie with information they don't even need yet, when he could tell them gradually? Yes, he could THEORETICALLY be hiding information that benefits him, but there's no real evidence to support that.
      2. Ralsei has no reason to show empathy for Spamton. Kris (and the player) knows about his tragedy and what all the puppet stuff REALLY means, but Ralsei doesn't. From his perspective, Spamton was just some insane glitchy program that randomly tried to kill them.
      3. Ralsei didn't keep the Roaring to himself, he already told Kris and Susie that not sealing the new fountains would cause the end of the world. His monologue in chapter 2 adds some extra details, but nothing major.

Here's a little theory I have. Just like Sans, Flowey, Jevil, and Spamton may have had some experience with Gaster, each of whom would learn that their world is a game, Ralsei would react in his own way. Ralsei knows of the player's existence, and knows what they are capable of. Ralsei, only wanting what is best for the world, secretly tells Kris about the player and how to temporarily escape their control. He then would have Kris create dark fountains as they Fun Gang destroys the ones before, with the intention of opening up the idea of the dark world and the player to as many characters as possible. This would allow Ralsei to gain power over the player as a precaution. During the other chapters, Ralsei would male a decision based on the player's actions whether to allow them to experience the game world with Kris, or to use his power to lock the player out of Deltarune entirely.

I think Ralsei a misinformed kid. He's lived all his life in Castle Town, completely alone, with his only company being a prophecy that promised him the potential of future friends. He wants to be a hero, he wants Kris and Susie to be heroes. And he's been told that sealing the fountains is how to be a hero.
Honestly, the trend of pinning Ralsei as "evil" without taking into consideration how young and sheltered he is giving me flashbacks to how a lot Undertale players did the same with Chara. Toby Fox is a great writer, and consistently creates characters that have nuanced, complex motivations and systems of morality. Fitting them into boxes of "good" VS "evil" is doing them all a disservice.

I remember I got recommended that video and I legit didn't watch it, and I never will until I get confirmation that he is a villain.
The mere concept of him being a villain is way too predictable, and I doubt Toby would ruin our perceptions of him when literally side by side, you get options like hugging him and other things, I don't think I could take the game as seriously as I do if that's the case.
I'm glad there's a video which proves some points I had in my mind when I heard about that video, and even others I didn't consider too.
Personal opinions, though, Ralsei does seem to hide some things towards the player/Kris that we don't know yet, but I don't think it's for some nefarious reason, maybe he's not fully able to open up to it yet or there's a reason to why he's hiding it, there's a lot of things that question his character, such as his down sprite (only his clothes) and so on.

As for his purpose or motivation, I'd say that he wanted to help Kris at all cost, but Kris is divided by the soul part played by the player and the true creepy part of his own character. That's why Kris hated Ralsei as his own personality but Ralsei really like Kris.
The true problematic character is the original character of Kris. If I'd make guess, we are probably the force Ralsei brought upon to this world to help his struggle to pacify Kris.

So if one character can travel from one universe to another, why can't Ralsei? What if Undertale's most tragic character found a way to escape his fate? I don't think he's the same character from Undertale. Keeping with the theme of anagrams, he's probably another universe's Ralsei equivalent. It's more likely that it was just a red herring to throw us off until the final ending cutscene. Here it's plain and obvious - we actually see kris erect a dark fountain, quite literally striking the earth as queen described. There's also no indication that it's a "Dream sequence" (Is toby really the kind of person to make a dream sequence fake out???) Plus, wouldn't it get kind of old to have this one be a fake-out too?? It would remove all the impact of a scene with such massive lore implications and would kind of be more disappointing the second time around rather than funny. (Plus would also mean that any other scene that we see could possibly be a fake-out and would ruin the impact of future scenes like that.)
I feel the rest of the video is fine, though. I never really thought that ralsei was evil, at the worst he could be blissfully ignorant or misinformed.

I think Rslsei being worried that the party would get stressed out if they knew about the roaring also matches with when he told you about why not fighting is important and then was concerned that Kris may get stressed about it.

Something wrong with your rebuttal against him wanting more dark fountains. The roaring could still be true, and Ralsei could still be telling kris to make Dark Fountains. You didn't even go over if Kris was the Knight which plays a big part in the Ralsei is telling kris to make the fountains theory. Dismissing it when we have seen Kris make at least one and I'm pretty sure to make the Library fountain since it doesn't take a full night to eat a pie and both things could have been done easily so its not even worth trying to dismiss one for the other.
I honestly believe that both the Fountain and Recruitment theories have merit to them, but believe them to not be as simple as wanting to rule. I think that Ralsei is strengthening his own fountain OR is repopulating the true dark world. Think about it. If Ralsei is from the true dark world then where are all the other Darkners? Maybe what Ralsei is doing isnt EVIL but it is manipulating Kris and Susie into repopulating the Dark World. With each Fountain brings more Darkners to his Fountain and either makes it stronger or just gives him company after being alone for so long.
"So that's why, Ok Kris" Perhaps that was preceded by Ralsei asking him to open the fountains so he could get more friends? Telling him that his people were either wiped out or taken away? Kris would empathize with him since Kris has been very alone since his brother left for college. But it would also make Kris aware enough to not trust Ralsei fully.
Ralsei doesn't need to be Comically Evil for these theories to be true, and I don't think anyone was or should think that is the case. So basically while I agree I don't think Ralsei is evil, doesn't mean that he doesn't have ulterior motives that are manipulating Kris and Susie. Manipulation for a good cause is still manipulation

One of the big things people point at ralsei is how he know all about prophecies and such, but there are little details that people have been overlooking.
    1. If you choose not to listen to ralsei's story one of the things lancer says is "you know, the teardrop headed kid from the prophecy?" Meaning lancer knows all about the prophecy.
    2. When queen says she didn't know about the prophecy ralsei is shocked making it seem like the prophecy is common knowledge for darkners, Queen is just dumb.

I’d imagine that Ralsei wants an army of Darkners, but not to control them, it’s for the final battle against the Knight.

Ralsei is a nice character but I think he is that type of person to betray us considering the fact that he wanted to be the Queen Butler, and honestly hope that kris (not the player) starts looking at ralsei as a friend since right now he's having mix feelings with the guy

That is a nice point. It's not as if Ralsei had much of a choice I'd think. Without Kris or Susie he wouldn't have been able to do much against queen. He wouldn't want to physically fight back. By becoming her butler he gained access to the mansion and was able to reconvene with the bunch.

people who are saying that he withheld the existence of the roaring, in the legend that he says when he first meets kris and susie "if light and dark are unbalanced, a terrible calamity would occur", he didnt put it into depth but he still did mention its existence in the legend he tells you the first time you meet him
aswell people keep saying ralsei is suspicous since he acts diffrent in this chapter, when during the boat ride he admits that he wasnt being himself in chapter 1 and was just trying to be as nice as possible

in tea Theory... Ralsei... not only Knows Noelle Enough to have opinion but also... at first when Susie say "Queen Capture Noelle" he shoud say "She capture who?" istead of "ok. we will help her no matter what" and same with berdly but here he act like he was Shocked... like he knew him more... i starting to think that Ralsei knows Asriel and vice versa and they telling each other about Light and Dark worlds... otherwise Ralsei MUST be Half-Lightner and Half-Darkner

Why Ralsei isn't evil in my Perspective :
    - People are reading way too far into stuff that could be red herrings.
    - Other characters like Seam and the Castle's Shop guy know a lot more about the secret bosses, Seam even knows what to do with Shadow Crystals.
    - I think Ralsei knows the layout of the one classroom because of something in his castle or something to do with the Dark Fountain.
    - There's also not bias here, It's just my idea I analyzed.

Besides the main topic, I have a good feeling that kris is gonna end up snapping and fully removing the player's control over his body and ultimately deciding what he will do and the vassal that we made is gonna have to be used as a replacement for kris's body.

There's a possibility, that Ralsei is not Kris' enemy, but OURS. That because he's probably one of the few who know that we exist, our name in game, the mechanics, talking directly to Kris while we're not watching ("and that's why"). Maybe he wants to stop us from controlling Kris, because he knows that we are capable of (commiting a freaking genocide just as likely as making bonds with everyone).
