Oh man, I hear the frustration in your voice! Are you going to Shepton Mallet? Dare I ask!? Would love to catch up with everything and this video too. Andy.
Hi Jof, sorry you have had a bad experience, ironically our motorhome is being done tomorrow, a mobile person for £160. On a positive note we have just had our first trip to france inspired by you guys and it was a success so thankyou. We bumped into you at Chelston, and every time we go we find the sales people a bit dismissive so good luck when you ring them tomorrow.
Sack them off Jof, we had similar experience with Davan. Use cara-doc for all habitation matters, based in Ivybridge they are NCC approved and will come to you. Far cheaper and a much better service than the rip off dealers, it’s a no brainer 👍
Never bothered with a hab check as I know my way around a motorhome and dont need anyone to tell me if something isn't working however we've just had our annual damp check done at Southdowns and that's more than doubled in price from £99 last year to £207 this year. I'm guessing the post Covid bubble has burst and they're clawing profit back by ripping off existing customers.
Thank you Jof for highlighting this issue. Even though our dealer has a great reputation, getting info pre hab checks is difficult. It’s like getting past the doctors receptionist to actually speak to someone. We paid about what you paid but we have to have the hab check done at the dealer to keep our water ingress warranty so dealers have us by the short and curlies. If we’d known what a minefield owning a motorhome after the initial purchase, I don’t think we’d have bought one
@@bridgeteley1410 thanks for watching Bridget, that is the annoying part about it for sure, but on the brighter side it’s absolutely amazing fun which we are not changing for the world. 🚍🏨🌴💯👌
Jof. I too paid £349 recently at Chelston for a HAB. I accepted this cost as it is also a condition to maintain the damp warranty( I understand). I also had additional issues that required attention, however, at £120 P/H- plus the time to identify the faults- I decided to make alternative arrangements. I have since used a good independent mobile engineer. NB I have found (most) of the ladies in the service dept delightful, so genuinely no complaints there. I have no experience of the sales team. Lastly, when searching for my MoHo, Dan at Camper UK was exceptional and very proactive. Good luck with Chelston, I hope you can rebuild your relationship with them.
They are looking for work mate as they are not saleing enough vans it happens in the car trade as well find a lot smaller company i bined chelstons off 5 years ago
Hi Jof,sorry you’ve had such a bad experience. We went to Chelston to look at an Adria Compact, was disgust with the condition of it on the inside. No protection on the floor and was covered in grit. Hence we didn’t buy from them. Hope you get it sorted mate 👍
Hi joffy. Sadly it’s a sign of the times since Covid. How can anyone justify £120 an hour! To be honest we fell out with our dealer just after buying our van for 70k. He told me I was been picky about some faults!!!!! It was brand new. Unfortunately we bought from a show in exeter and they are in Gloucester. When it came to our hab check I wasn’t driving 5 hours to them so checked with Auto trail we could use someone local that was approved. He came to us to do the check and charged £110. Took him just over an hour. It’s sad that as a last resort we will ever go back to our dealer
Luckily I am an ex motor mechanic not that helps with a lot of van problems other than the mechanical side but it does mean you learn, So having my motorhome for 22 years I have never taken it to a dealer, I would prefer to buy what ever equipment I need to do the job or sit down a learn sometimes I have spent over a week reading about a problem, I must have saved thousands over the years. The best story I have was a friend of mine here in France who went to his local dealer and paid for the diagnosis for a fridge that was not working £150 ish and was told a new fridge needed £2000 plus labour, I had a look and told him he needed a new control unit which he shipped from the UK cost £150 one hour to fit.
We too use a mobile service for our hab checks. Full written report including all the damp check readings. £135 here in Northamptonshire. Matt does a great job.
You seem very upset & not finishing your sentences 😊 we have a 2018 690G and only had the 5 yr warranty so we used independent hab check company, was still £300 but done was at my home for 3hrs or so, gave good input on a few things such as the rubber mat system we also have in garage was causing a suspicious higher damp reading (slight sweating ) but still within tolerance we were able to remove and dry out, I’m going to remove fully end of next trip as weather more variable also suspect the heat tube in garage will exasperate it when colder so I may close that off if can find the right fitment
Definitely robbed, where 8am it’s 51 an hour when I took my car in for something to be checked, and it was found to be a loose connection. Are these dealerships making money now because they aren’t selling motorhomes/campers
That's a lot of money for a hab check. Was the £40 on top of that? As a matter of interest I recently checked 3 local caravan/MH workshops within 1 mile of each other and their hourly repair rates are £75, £90 and £120. None are Burstner.
That's too much when all we really need is a damp check. That's now three Burstner dealers I will avoid if I change. £120 per hr is silly money. Also a few months ago we visited to look at a new Burstner auto and was disgusted at the filthy condition it was in.
@@derekt7606 thanks for watching derek and commenting, the brand new Gallery model there from Bűrstner is in a shocking state, think they need to sort there selfs out on a few issues…👌

I can’t see what your problem is - you given no evidence of why you think you’ve been cheated or robbed, you could have asked the price before you booked the service. The comment that you’re getting no good news is extremely weird - you’ve asked the dealer to check your Motorhome and they’ve told you what they’ve found….
@@stephenmcdaid7706 I did watch the vlog… According to the vlog the dealer charges £120 per hour (not unusual given all their overheads), they did nearly 4 hours work (according to the vlog) and charged a pre-defined price of £349, (so less than 4x£120). I understand that it seems a lot of money, but it’s not robbery in my eyes.
Mine was about £320 this year in NI, so sounds about right. Always seems a lot when nothing is wrong.
