Lucky enough to see it do a run at last year's FOS, In the flesh it is hands down visibly much faster than anything else. It looks like you are viewing it in a video which has been speeded up.
My buddy took me out on track in his SCCA BMW. He’s fastest by far and up ahead we spot a VW pick up truck tailgate. Remember those? My buddy gets excited and it was GO TIME! Looking at the back of a VW pickup truck tailgate going full bore around Road Atlanta was hilarious. The damn truck was FLYING! Doing crap it shouldn’t and doing it damn well! My buddy said my weight was the reason he couldn’t pass him. We had a blast for those sessions 👍 The guy had been a student driver my buddy had instructed for like 5 years. That truck though 👍
I would have loved to have been there when one of the engineers said "I wanna put fans in it for downforce even when it's sitting still" I wonder if they laughed or said "that's a GREAT IDEA"? The damn thing ran under 8 seconds in the Quarter mile on Carwow which is scary
The Chaparral 2J was the first "sucker" car in competition. It ran in the 1970 Can-Am series. It had plastic skirts that dragged the pavement and a pair of military tank cooling fans driven by a 2 cylinder snowmobile engine. It was banned at the end of the season. The Brabham BT46 had an oversize radiator fan used to similar effect in the 1978 Formula 1 series.
This is the car equivalent of the SR72-“Blackbird”…So Slick and looks so fast even standing still parked and yet it also looks effortlessly frozen in time and silent when it was past mach 1.0
Yup. It has a range of, IIRC about 300 miles if not all the gadgets are used. Turn off the fans, use "normal" power, it'd easuily do Dallas to Austin. However, I doubt that the roads would be up to it and would probably do significant damage because of the ride hight.
Crazy that truly useable electric cars just came to the market 11 years ago. Now this car is quicker by a large margin than every race car in the world.
@@zyoungson215 so Indy CARS or formula 1 CARS or imsa CARS, aren’t cars? And for reference all those I named used fan cars at one point. And goodwood doesn’t have rules prohibiting that and also included other fan cars. Your failed attempt at an argument was comical.
@@nsxmatt It may not have a crace category, but that isn't the point. The point behind it was to give normal Joes the opportunity to feel what it's like to go round a corner at F1 type speeds, without needing the F1 type skills. Just keeping an F1 car going fast enough to take advantage of the thing's abilities requires enormous amounts of skill. The McMurtry doesn't really need that much.,

Way back in 1976 when I did my engineering degree I thought about using a fan for downforce to achieve fantastic cornering and braking. Here it is nearly fifty years later.
One Wonders what the Damage is to the Impellor Fans on this car? It's got to be Ghastly, as it's a HOOVER gone MAD! Que the Bugs-bunny vs. Witch skit...
Three things we luckily haven't seen yet, but will assuredly happen at some point: to the Speirling ; 1. it will eventually hit something at high speed and will most likely not fare well when it does. It's just so fast that it will probably be catastrophic.... this IS coming so get ready. 2. Who ever is driving on that unlucky day will not only be in mortal danger, but they will need to be extracted from that tiny vehicle, which in itself may do more harm should they survive. Regardless of how "safe" the Speirling is proclaimed to be, it's still VERY unsafe just due to the speeds it drives at. Lastly, the fallout from any major accident, regardless of what causes it, will set-back the growing company heavily. I would think not talking about this is worse than the BS and jinxing caused by talking about it. Idunno, maybe they've had some secret accident already, but when the one that happens in front of the cameras happens, it will be a big media frenzy for sure.
Actually, it was built with a very specific purpose,; to demonstrate what it feels like to drive an F1 car around a corner. You can equally claim that track day cars serve no purpose at all. At least the McMurtry extends human knowledge.
As an exercise in engineering, this thing is a marvellous success. As a car, this thing is a failure, absolutely pointless. I would, however, love to have a go!!

Amazing car. 1.4 sec. 0-60, 7.9 sec 1/4 mile. 1000hp(745kw) with 4400 lbs of downforce at 0 mph.
I love how most people’s reaction is to laugh in shock and disbelief at its capabilities
The driver gets out and drinks a red bull to calm down
Wow, what a machine...incredible. And you'd swear that it WAS speeded up...just beautiful.
Enjoyed this video, thanks! Amazing seeing how fast it still was in the wet!
Welcome! Such a masterpiece in engineering
Mighty impressive, can anyone tell me the specifications - engine, power, weight etc? Cheers
an astonishing car
Nobody is gonna beat that thing for a long time. That’s next level.
This car is the ultimate.
absolutely insane
They need to do a slightly wider longer variant for dual seater!
Or just longer, like czinger 21c
This looks like a real version of the Batmobile.
It looks like a cartoon its so quick.
This made batman put his car away
Fastest track vacuum on the planet!
Great footage.
Would they have to vacuum clean a track before racing several of these? Throws up so much dust.
Echt mind blowing hoe snel dat ding voorbij komt....
Voor je gevoel versneld afgespeeld
It's so fast it looks like at has the bullet power up from Mario Kart!
This thing has a slot guide AND magnets!!!!
Got to have somewhere
I remember when magnets became a thing!
i wonder if it smells like slot car racing when it goes by.

Oh, and... Chaparral was Correct, 5+ decades ago!! #66 lives on.
Exactly. I see Noone else here seems to remember. Or maybe never knew.
Dare I say it. The Pure has a side view which reminds me very much of the 427 cobra, another favourite of mine. Absolutely love it. 🙏🏽
I can see it.
Deffo reminiscent!
That is hands-down the most epic track dryer I’ve ever seen.

Over the length of the course, it has an inclination of 4.9%. It may not look like it because camera angles always make hills disappear, but it is.
