- The Timed Shootout at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard produced some incredible action this weekend. Not every one of the fastest runs of the weekend came from the final. But over the four days we saw some amazing action from an awesome variety of machines.
In the end our fastest cars were WRC machines, time attack creations, Formula 5000 cars, classic touring cars and even a van! We had Romain Dumas, Travis Pastrana, Scott Speed, Jake Hill and more in action all pushing as hard as they could for the fastest time.

it's crazy how tecnology has become that the fact that a rally car can beat a F1 and come close to an overpowered group A, and for the other side how much more fun would be an unlimited formula series, because a 70 formulas coming thrid stills blow my mind, just imagine if f1 would have restriction only over co2 emission and nothing else, more downforce, more engine configs, more rpm, more power baby. that how you push new tenology, if you want battery ok let that but the need to push the research of how efficient and better can become, not by just getting slower the cars, no body want to watch that, gearheads want to see a man machine combat, the killer besat getting tame not a rich dude walking his dog in the park.
the calsonic R32 always blows my mind at how fast it is given that it looks like pure mechanical grip

suits the course, you can push it. a lot of the faster more aero-reliant cars are afaik an absolute nightmare to drive on the hill, it's more like taming a beast rather than pushing on.
Godzilla was, is and always will be a weapon in the hands of the right driver.
You know what the best part is? He did it with no 2nd gear, blew it out on the earlier run of the day. Awesome car, and Jake is a fantastic driver!

Fun fact: before Logan Sargeant, he was the last full-time American F1 driver. He drove 1.5 seasons for Toro Rosso until he was replaced by some guy named Sebastian Vettel.
For anyone wondering why McMurtry didn’t run it’s because Goodwood is a little bit of a silly event. Basically you have to get invited and when you do you get invited it’s either to do “High speed demonstration runs” or “Timed Runs” the McMurty was only invited to do the demonstration runs. With that being said I do believe the McMurty did a 38 on the Thursday or Friday but it’s not official so doesn’t count as a record.

I was there today and spoke to one of the McMurtry guys. The reason they weren't invited to do a timed run is because the organisers are concerned about the speeds getting too high along with the level of risk to spectators. It's a bit disappointing but I totally get it. I watched the McMurtry go through the flint wall section this afternoon and it was blisteringly fast. The driver didn't even lift off. It looked like it was doing about 140 mph. If a non suction fan car went through there at the same speed there would be a huge accident. Still great fun to watch though and gutted for Travis Pastrana
And if you had timed the Live Feed you would have discovered it went up in 39.5 seconds today, Sunday!
@@peterjames7264 and all that makes a lot of sense. This is a festival for the enjoyment of cars, rather than a race.
I'd like to see them take on Pikes Peak, which is a very real race! Optimising for the endurance required would be an interesting challenge
@@MichaelWilliams-ub3owthat, ground effect works optimal at sunny weater, and McMurtry had it covered, filters in both intake and exit to prevent considerable objects pass througt and cause an accident.
Makes sense, saw his run last year. Really really fast. Furthermore, everyone knows that if they did timed and prepared time, it would won again and probably beat last year record.
At least that car is tiny. That supervan barely fits the track.

The Calsonic R32 is a thing of legends.
Kudos to Jake Hill's R32 GT-R, despite not being the actual Calsonic one, it still faithfully setting it up into an actual Group A touring car from its 1,260kg racing weight, regardless of having an engine output of 1,000hp as opposed to 550-700hp on the actual one.

@@kristianatley5479 It is owned by Nissan and resides in the Zama Heritage Collection on the outskirts of Tokyo. It can occasionally be seen running at NISMO Festival in December at Fuji Speedway.
@@rkxbox6433 Yeah, they (Jake Hill and his crew) set it up to 1,000 hp during that FOS event.
@@kristianatley5479 It is currently being displayed at Nissan Heritage Museum in Japan, yet still clean and in running condition.
Especially when rolling in Fuji Speedway during NISMO Festivals.

joebeus6886 It’s 2 only rwd and has half the hp and is NA ( all power on top) the wing is only for stability not for performance (you probably don’t understand ) it’s a Porsche with a rear engine , it only wants to understeer , putting a rear wing on it makes it only worse .

The fact that that Skyline R32 is so fast is such a testament to what that car was originally designed to be. I sincerely doubt there’s any chassis work or redesign. It’s just an intrinsically well designed platform with a few racing touches. Very impressive
It's a recreation, so built only a few years ago, and the Group A cars despite using the original body structure and engine core are otherwise very different in their transformation to race spec. This one is supposedly also boosted to 1000hp, well above the 550-650odd it would've raced/qualified with in period.
@SmallBlogV8 its also an H patten manual, not a sequential like the group A cars. With a broken 2nd gear apparently.

It's fun seeing the Puma Rally1 up there with some of the fastest times up the hill
I was there on Saturday watching the practice shootout. The ICE cars sound immense with their open exhausts, but for pure speed EV's are going to take over now. The Ford Supervan was something else. On the straights it was visibly far quicker than anything else on the day.

Jake Hill shifting manually in the Calsonic R32 gets my vote.
The Rally1 Puma is amazingly fast considering it has way lower power to weight ratio than any of the other top 10 cars I am pretty sure. I don't know how the hybrid is deployed here but even if the boost was on all the time it would still be only about 510 hp at 1260 kg. Also has to assume that they are running the same turbo restrictor as in rally.

They did a run on the Thursday, which I'd heard clocked in faster than their previous record... But I don't understand why it doesn't count as a timed run - it makes no sense.

they have said there's no point in running the car until someone comes close to the record
@@michaelsummerell8618 If they didn't enter the shootout specifically than it doesn't count for the shootout. Tons of cars go up the hill every FOS but only so many actually run the shootout.
