- It's a question I get quite a bit on my channel - can you sync the Pioneer DJS-1000 with Rekordbox or Serato? Well, turns out you can with a new feature added in Rekordbox 6 and a feature that has been in Serato for quite a while. In this video I thought I'd show you my tests and how I go it to work.

Hope this helps for those trying to sync the DJS-1000 with Rekordbox or Serato! It's definitely not perfect, there are some glitches and it'll never be as good as the Pioneer Pro link but it does work and you can play around with the midi settings to experiment further :)
What i dont understand, wy pioneer dont use the PRO LINK Bridge App to Sync the DJS-1000 with rekordbox software (performance mode). If all devices (XDJ, CDJ, DJM-900NXS2) are conncect with LAN (also the LAN is connect with the Mac)

Thank you thank you... and yes thank you... really appreciate it!! I figured that I might have to go thru ableton to connect the djs 1000 but thanks for confirming. I plan on having ableton up and running so that's no big deal. Really appreciate the great tutorial!

Thank you a lot for this great video! Just bought the DJS1000 a week ago and was quite surprised it didn't sync with RB performance mode. Do you perhaps have a video on how to get started with setting up projects and scenes in the DJS-1000? In my case, as an open format Dj, I would like to create my DJS1000 as a live-tool for adding beats and stuff to the track that's playing. What do you advise me for setting up my DJS? Where to start? :-)
There is a git hub - which has a pioneer link to Abelton Link converter available -its essentially a server programm which runs via ethernet - so you need to run it on a raspberry PI for example. I postet this just for anyone else thinking about a DJS1000. (Sync with Live, Akai MPC etc.)
This is great! I will try this if I can’t figure out the Pro Link. I have a CDJ 900 nexus 1 (made for RB but works on Serato), a S7 mixer, and the DJS. I have everything connected properly. I can live sample but I can’t seem to get BPM sync to work.
Thank you for the info. Wondering if you can use a Dj controller e.g Pioneer DDJ 1000 as a midi with Record box and Ableton link?
Interesting. I used Ableton link with many other devices and Serato and I never needed to have Ableton open to use the link feature.
Very good Sr. !! I have a offtopic question. Can we Stock more than 1 FX in a sample on a pad ? Example: I want to put a DUCK, Compression and a filter on a BASS sample, put when i select one FX the other goes away ! Thanks !!
Unfortunately only 1 fx slot per sample at the moment but the SP-16 gained a 2nd in a software update so hopefully the same will come to the DJS soon

Thanks for the video dude- super helpful. Unfortuatnely Rekorbox doesn't bring up the little blue sync line when I hit Sync to link with Ableton. It shows there's 1 linked device, and my DJS-1000 starts and stops with Ableton, but Rekordbox doesn't do anything. I also don't get the "link" setting in the master sync section of Rekordbox... anyone else had this issue? I'm on PC btw
It is quite a buggy type setup, I really made the video to show it could be done but still not a great solution. Might take a little bit of tinkering to get working!
Great video, excellent info. I have been trying to figure out why my djs-1000 wont sync via pro dj link from my xdj-xz when rekordbox is in performance mode (but works as expected when using only USB drives or when rekordbox is in export mode) So frustrating!!! Thanks for making this “link” for me and for making the (obvious???) feature request. Hopefully they will fix that in the next RB6 update.
Yeah it looks as though Rekordbox can only do one or the other at the moment, which is a shame really but tbh if you’re using the XZ you’ve got a hell of a load of features in standalone mode so if you still wanted to use your laptop I would just use it in export mode 👌🏻
No argument there! but streaming services such as beatport link only work in performance mode.

i just need a midi bpm sync with xdj-xz (no midi connections available) and my hardware drum machine (mc-909) is there a simple answer there? i really don't need another sampler just a midi sync
Thanks for posting this and good job sorting out the grimble. I just tried this and it works like a charm. HOWEVER....(dramatic pause)
It doesn’t sync with the faders in Link mode with CDJs connected to Ethernet-Link or HiD mode. That’s right troopers, every time a track is changed one must unclick the blue link tab on the player, unclick link in Rekordbox, set the tempo on the CDJ, then turn link(s) back on and wait a tic for the DJS to resync. Perhaps a follow up video of this tutorial for CDJ 2000nxs2 users would help explain this. After spending $99 for ableton live intro I might be mad, but I’m grateful instead. Cheers!
Well that sounds kinda annoying! As I say, this definitely isn’t a perfect solution but might help on the way to a better one. I saw the release notes about the Ableton Link support so this idea entered my mind which I hadn’t seen many talk about before so I thought I’d do the video but after trying it I definitely wouldn’t say it’s ideal
I use a slightly different way, as a Serato user it was a headache at gigs not having DJS-1000 sync’d with Nexus gear. I use SoundSwitch (which has Ableton Link) for my lights and the latest version added a midi function that could sync with DJS-1000. SoundSwitch runs in the background of Serato and essentially hard sync’d so no need to even use Ableton Link whilst running Serato or have Ableton Live open, but can do so if not running Serato and doing a live set with SoundSwitch in standalone mode. It’s magic.

Hi, but you have to by ore create a subcribe for Sync the djs-1000 - this means, you pay 80 Doller every year for sync with the djs-1000. Could you create a small tutorial how you do that? i use rekordbox & serato, so it makes no different, becouse both have the Ableton Link function. Thanks for your imput!
Dirty Secretz It’s really awesome. It uses hardware which sends out DMX to any DMX light.
So basically the Djs 1000 is plugged in via usb midi to the laptop, then soundswitch reads the bpm from seratos link to soundswitch and sends the signal to the djs 1000 from the controller.? which is the in and which is the out? sorry this method just seems awesome
any tips on how to set this up with soundswitch? I'm thinking of getting the 1 month trial to see if it works. thanks.
Hey and thanks a lot for your very usefull video and description ! How did you do to use Rekordbox as a master ? I try to sync my ddj1000 with another piece of hardware through Ableton Live with LINK but when I activate the LINK, i can't change the BPM at all on my tracks on Rekordbox, only from Ableton live ONLY as a master (not a Slave)
If Ableton Live is the leader then it will be dictating what the BPM would be of the tracks within Rekordbox being followers will just stick to the same BPM as Ableton. If you want the BPM to change you'd do that in Ableton.

Hello my friend! I hope you are well and safe :) I have a question as a new aspiring DJ. I have a DDJ 400 and it is listed as compatible with recordbox 6. I don’t have ableton and I don’t think DDJ 400 has a HID mode. Are all controllers compatible with ableton link via recordbox 6?
Rekordbox 6 has the Ableton Link feature built in so as long as your controller works with Rekordbox 6 then it should work
You moved deck tempo with your mouse in Rekordbox DJ, did you notice that if you move the pitch of a contrôleur ( or CDJ in HID ) you have a red alert saying that it’s not possible ?
BUT, there is a but, the same manipulation works on Serato DJ Pro.

Oh that is weird! I don’t have a Rekordbox controller to try it out so just assumed it’d work, in theory it should do right? Very strange then! As I say, it’s not really a perfect solution just something I’d tried out.
Dirty Secretz Yes it’s a good solution, don’t worry, it’s strange that it is blocked when you touch a pitch and works with the mouse. I use this link ( in Rekordbox DJ ) to send the clock the a Erica Synths Zen Delay, and it works well like with your DJS-1000. But of course, there is latency contrary to the Pro Dj Link.
Hi, can you load tracks from rekordbox onto the DJS when using performance mode in RB. The reason I ask is I use Beatport Link and want to use the DJS with that service. Thanks.
I don't think it's possible as you need to be in export mode to load on the DJS-1000 I believe. To be honest, I'm not sure as I've never used it that way - I've always found loading samples from the USB to be the most straight forward way of doing it.

Great video... but can we assume that the same technique works for the SP16?
I’d imagine so yes, it has midi in just like the DJS so I don’t see why not! I haven’t tried it all linked to Rekordbox but the SP-16 plays nice with Ableton
I never tried this app before but thanks to your video it helped me to explore and sync the SP16 with Live. In my case I needed to adjust the ‘Link to Midi’ Offset by -25 to get it to sync perfectly. So thanks!
Can you transfer a MIDI song in Ableton to the seq in DJS1000 so for portability you only need the XDJ-ZX/DJS1000 without Ableton Sync?
I'm not aware of a way you can transfer a midi track but I've heard of some people using the midi-in to control the DJS. I have planned at some stage to do a video on it!

I think managing samples on the DJS-1000 is really just personal taste. I tend to mainly use the DJS-1000 in two ways: either performing a track live or just to add extra elements over the top of tracks. In the first case, I have a folder for each of my original tracks and then inside that all the loops/one-shots that I use to perform it. In the other case I just have folders based on vocals, drum hits, etc. and then I'll just set them up from there. There's no rules on that, it's whatever works for you.

@@emilianoibarra3537 It really depends on the sample and where it's from. If it's from one of my tracks then it'll already have the FX and processing from making that track. If it's a vocal sample I've got from an acapella then I might have put a bit of delay or reverb on it or it might be completely dry depending on how I'd mix it in with my set. if it's a sample from a sample pack then it's probably good just as it is, it's just the creative call you make on each sample based on what you want to do with it in your sets.

Hi, after testing. you need to DISABLE at DJS-1000 in MIDI Settings "START/STOP/CONTINUE" (Disable), otherwise if you have a sequenze, its not possible to start from the beginning of a sequenze, its starts on the position in the Ableton Live ( i will create a video - so you must change your video, becouse the settings in DJS-1000 are wrong)
As I say, you can play around with the settings til you get what you want 😉

Can you drag & drop loops from Rekordbox or CDJs to DJS-1000?
I don’t believe you can, usually you’d use the sampling feature and feed the CDJ into the input of the DJS to sample it. You can connect the DJS via pro link to a computer & it does show up as link but I don’t think you can drop samples in it - I could be wrong though, I’ve not tested that.
This so16 has a flash drive so you can do that on that unit and then prepare it for the DJs.
Do you think the same principle would apply to Pioneers SP-16 & AS1
I don't see why not, both of them have the same syncing capability
Has anyone worked out if a midi cable from a DJM900 (in my case the SRT) to the DJS-1000 would be a workaround? I have Abelton but not on my Serato laptop. Thoughts?
It's not something i've tried as most of the time I've been using the DJM900 with CDJ-2000s and just having those linked by the pro link to keep the sync. It does look like the DJM900 outputs a certain type of midi clock so it might work that way, just may take some experimentation with putting the DJS into slave mode to receive clock via midi in. Next time I have the DJM900 in front of me I'll try it out!
@@DirtySecretz Cheers as I use Turntable with my Serato DVS it seems like it may be the best answer without Abelton. The Midi cables arrive tomorrow I will let you know if it works as well.
can you control ableton tracs through pioneer djm mixer to ableton using rekordbox?
I honestly have no idea, how would you control something from the DJM? Do you mean get the BPM from the mixer into Ableton and then into Rekordbox?

Maybe, you can midi map within Rekordbox so if the Xone K2 can be connected via USB and used as a midi controller then I don’t see why not.

It’s possible to sync XDJ-XZ with SDJ 1000 using recordbox and without and use just usb pendrive?
I'm not really familiar with the SDJ1000 but I've got a feeling you can't mix USBs with playing live with Rekordbox and it still work. Ableton link would only be coming from the Rekordbox software so if you're playing a track off a USB stick it wouldn't be getting the information it needed. I don't know that for sure but I'm guessing that's probably why it won't work.

Thanks for the vid, did you manage to find away to nudge the DJS1000 as the nudge buttons are disabled in midi sync mode?
To be honest I don't actually use Rekordbox to perform with so this was really just a test video, I haven't played with it any more. It doesn't work great but it's hopefully a step towards getting it working at all.
@@DirtySecretz morning, thanks for taking the time to reply. The only reason I was trying to do this is I have a XDJ-RX so was was trying to get a work around to sync them together. It does sync but you have now way that I can see you to nudge the DJS1000. Looks like I will have to upgrade to the XDJ/ZX for it to work. attention: the changing speed is not possible with the jog sliders as far as with todays rekordbox 6.2 and ableton link.

You may be able to send midi clock from Traktor to the DJS, not tried it myself though
also: because the DJS-1000 has an awesome pitch fader with dedicated nudge buttons, automatic sync is really never really that much of a big deal. Especially since both Rekordbox and Serato both display BPM. Easy enough to use pitch fader and nudge (which you almost always have to anyway, depending on your need to really get a tight mix over longer periods of mixing time). Mixing: #NEVERFORGET!!!! lol
Very true although when you're mixing multiple decks, layering sounds with the DJS - you really don't want to have to think about beatmatching as well, just one of those things you can put on auto to then allow you to be more creative :)
Dirty Secretz totally get it. My set up is complex too. But I wouldn’t want anyone to think that the DJS-1000 isn’t easy to use because they think it’s complicated to set up to sync. You’ve shown it isn’t - and I’m not suggesting your video says as much either. Just to be clear. Once again - great video, thanks for doing! 💪🏻🙏🏻
