I consider myself lucky and humbled to have been able to see The Who on their last tour with The Ox in 2000. He did a 20 minute bass solo that completely melted/shredded/destroyed Cleveland’s Rocket Fieldhouse (then known as Gund Arena). Great to see Roger and Pete still bringing it 22 years later. I was dubious whether they should still be on tour but this sounded great and I would go if they add Cleveland to the tour stops.
Just before Who's Next was released, they were on a tour of minor UK destinations. I was lucky enough to be at the Worthing Assembly Hall for their gig - from memory it was late July 1971. We were utterly mystified, the lights went down, apart from Moon's drums and the speakers/amps there was nothing on the stage but a chair, upon which was a Grundig reel-to-reel tape recorder, a hush descended. A roady came out and pressed play, this was the tape loop for Baba O'Riley. This was a single, massive event for rock music - we were looking around thinking 'wtf'? In the dark, one-by-one, figures emerged and broke into it. I can't quite remember but I even think Dave Arbus from East of Eden had joined them on this tour, for the violin solo. Pretty sure they played most of Who's Next before a break, then they played favourites, but I'm pretty sure the Grundig came out again for 'Won't get fooled again' right at the end. Unusual, utterly spellbinding, I am honoured to have been there as a 19 yo on Uni vacation. Of course by this time I had seen most of the prog rock bands of importance live, King Crimson, Family, Floyd (even on the Saucerful of Secrets' tour), The Nice, original Tull, Van der Graaf, GSOE, Dada, Genesis on the 'Famous Charisma Tour' and the rest, but this was raw, live, and important. Enjoyed this, thanks for uploading. I saw them in Atlanta in 1970, opening act was Allman Brothers when Duane was alive. WHO played entire Tommy (before Who's Next). Amazing night of rock & roll! Im sure that the Allman Bros stole the show! I remember in '76 L. Skinner opened for the Stones tour & pretty much stole the shows in the South! '89 same thing in Ca, SRV stole the show from Jeff Beck, It's all about the Music Bruh!
Doc - can't say ABB stole the show. The Brothers played about 3 hours, many songs developed into long jams, they were having fun. The audience was too! The Who came onstage at midnight, played the entire Tommy opera. My most vivid memory ( this was 52 years ago) is of Keith Moon. He had that huge gong behind him and at one point leaned back to hit it and fell back, head over hills. A roadie was stationed right there, sat him back on his stool, he never missed a beat! Long live rock! Those who can, do! Check out those who can't... making shitty comments about the first GEEZERS of rock! You try singing or playing music when you can't fucking hear, then come round and talk some shit. These artists are doing critical jobs, they are showing all of us that we don't have to stop because of disability. Bless them and us for being able to perceive each other; seriously. Covid tried to snuff us all, and look where we are! WE ARE ALIVE! FUCK YEAH! I wish Keith and John had gotten here too, you guys. I'm so glad Pete and Roger are here with us. These legions of old rockers if they're not dead they're performing! Can't imagine how ironic and cruel life must seem if those are the only two options on the table.
I’m pretty sure that most of them aren’t doing because they have to do it, especially legendary artists like Pete and Roger, or The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, etc. Those guys could have retired comfortably years ago. They do it because it’s what they love doing.

I will always love and respect The Who, but this just isn’t right…Roger can still sing and Pete can still play…but doing it like this isn’t the right way…there’s got to be a time when you hang it up…or perform in a way that is appropriate for the years that have passed…I never want to cringe watching my heroes…

I love The Who. Saw them in Toronto on the first night of their first comeback tour. They were awesome. Roger and Pete need to retire though. Poor Rogers voice is gone. Their legacy will live forever. They can rest now.
Saw them live in Mountain View Ca 2000 with Entwhistle on bass and Zach Starkey as the rhythm section; awesome (Daltry didn't wear glasses then though)! So funny to see guys in their 70s still singing about Teenage Wasteland; maybe should be Geriatric Wasteland!!!???? :0)))

First time I saw these guys was on the Tommy tour (late 60s) and all the $3 tickets were sold out so had to buy from a scalper.... $5 each... ouch. I still have the ticket stubs. Over the years I have seen them many times but only twice with the 24-piece orchestra. Maybe I'm a bit of a purist, but I like the idea of hearing what the band itself can pull off in the raw, without the full backup. Have also seen the Moody Bules play without their backup. It's a different kinda cool. BTW, I'm amazed they haven't done an acoustic tour, similar to what Ian Anderson did for a few years with the Jethro Tull material.

She was excellent ! And not bad on the eyes !
She was amazing
I was there. It was fantastic!!!
Saw them in 1981 ond thought they were old then and better see them before its to late lol.
Me too. With the Clash and David Johansen - who's sound was drastically lower. Clash were pissed off w their sound too. Then everything was loud and clear for the headliners...
Amazing they havent aged sound as good as ever
Shut up to everyone saying the Who are too old and should call it quits. It's not your life.
FANTASTIC BAND
Saw the original 4 in '71 at Civic Opera House in Chicago.. Went to the record store following day & bought Whos Next. Still have my original vinyl, one of my favorite albums of all. No criticism here, just happy to still be vertical with Daltrey & Townshend.
THANX Lauren...10/10.
Went to see Herman's Hermits in Dallas 1967 and these guys started the show. When they finished, the show was over.
hermoso tema...uno de los mejores de la historia de rock..
I really hope we can continue to celebrate each other's survival, and I hope that "The Who Hit Back" is really saying "Fuck you" to aging and disability. That's what it means to me, anyway.
Long live rock ❤️
The Seniors Tour … my generation, man !
Epic band.
YES1 Love the Who! Long Live Rock!
Oh wow!!! Awesome!!!!
Jack Bruce had great pipes right up until his passing. Daltry is the same kind of singer.
I dearly love these guys and their music but it’s time.
if fans still want to see them, then why not.
@@jiordone8563 because they don't have the voices to sing anymore.
@@fransmith8992 Roger still pulls it off reasonably well. Besides - the main thing is that THEY are still having fun doing it, and that's what really matters at this point.
Don't like it? Don't go. They do a hell of a lot better than some fake like Roger Waters does...
@@cornfilledscreamer614 i LOVE the who. but , roger is not 'pulling it off reasonably well'. they are both straining their voices and still can't hit the notes. straining their voices at this age matters. it's bad for their vocal cords. and i didn't go. and i will comment whatever i want.
If you really feel that way, you never truly understood The Who. "So tell me who are you... "
I saw them in 1978 with Keith on drums at the Oakland Coliseum, with the Dead as the opener. Fought my way to the front…that show seriously changed my life. The energy and excitement from just four players was something I will never experience again. I will always love and respect The Who, but this just isn’t right…Roger can still sing and Pete can still play…but doing it like this isn’t the right way…there’s got to be a time when you hang it up…or perform in a way that is appropriate for the years that have passed…I never want to cringe watching my heroes…
What are you referring to? What is wrong with this performance?
@@fishboy91 I know right. I was there at Jacksonville April 24th and they played a great set.
@@fishboy91 well, for starters, at the beginning Roger looks like he’s doing calisthenics at a retirement home.
@@andrewwalker7893 huh? If you are talking about the way he brings the mic up above his right shoulder and then drops it towards his left hip, that is the same move he's been doing for decades. It's characteristic Daltry
The Oakland Show was 10/9/76. I was there too. Had to suffer through the Dead, whom I never liked. It seemed like they played forever. The crowd began getting restless because everyone was there to see The Who. Don't know how those two bands got put on the same bill, but it was very mismatched.
AMAZING BAND
It's time to throw in the towel. Those days are gone..long gone.....Rolling Stones Too!
Can't pretend that getting older never hurts ! Townend !
Pretty damn impressive vocals from someone who is 78.
I love The Who. Saw them in Toronto on the first night of their first comeback tour. They were awesome. Roger and Pete need to retire though. Poor Rogers voice is gone. Their legacy will live forever. They can rest now.
Just imagine me watching old Phil sitting, can't drum or sing anymore.. 😥
They sound freaking great!
Hi Lauren - I think we met at a show once. I’m sure I have your business card. Great video - thanks.
This is the best band. IMHO.
Roger has incorporated his golf swing to the act...
Lol
Living legends!👍👍👍👍👍
Whatever happened to all the stuff they found in Pete's computer? Amazing he's still free
Without John and Keith there are former shell of themself they used to be the most energetic and most crazy rock band of all time!!!!! RIP JOHN AND KEITH you are sorely missed😢😭
Why don't you just enjoy the living.
I always miss John at the start of this song. He used to make the stadiums shake.
Our Pino isn't bad but he isn't the Ox. :)
I believe that's Jon Button on bass. I do love Pino though.
@@jackjdolan THAT'S NOT FUCKING PINO - ARE YOU KIDDING..! (THIS NEW GUY SUCKS)..! PINO HAS BEEN GONE FOR 3 TOURS ALREADY....
Pino has been gone since the last tour.
Keep it alive !
