Ordered and received the routers yesterday after reviewing your videos. Thank you! I cannot be happier with my purchase and thanks for the very informative videos.
Wow, what an amazing video series! Congratulations, and thank you so much.. Having watched it from beginning to end, I AM going to buy ASUS! My only question now is whether I hold out for WIFI 7, or go now for the ET12…. Does ASUS bring new routers to market at random, or at certain times of year?
Thanks you for you comment, Asus do not have a scheduled time frame each year for there new routers. But they do release new or Refreshed version each year. ET12 will last you many years as WiFi 7 devices will not come out on the mainstream market for a few years. Asus do have WiFi 7 routers ready for realse soon two are here:www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/wifi-7/all-series/filter?Category=WiFi-Routers
I've just got a twin pack of these and the internet goes completely down each morning between 6am and 7am. Even after a hard reset! Wired and wireless devices completely stop working and connecting to the SSID keeps saying invalid key even though it's correct. It starts working again after I reboot it but then breaks again the following morning! I'm thinking I've got a faulty unit.
Just returned the $1500 Orbi and bought this. It frequently dropped Wi-Fi when my internet was fine, I even returned it and got a new one and the new one did the same thing! I can’t wait to actually have access to real settings not the Sesame Street version. Does this one allow you to force a client to connect to a specific satellite? I bought 3 of these and have had issues with other routers connecting to a satellite further away.
You make me laugh 😂 Thanks for making my day. Give it time the price with any technology always comes down, as one good thing with tech is always a newer model comes out regularly.
This will slow down your internet speed a lot. I have a 2.5 Gbit. when I turn those on I can't even get a1 Gbit speed. tested more then once. the speed test on the router is not the same as from your computer when those controls are on.
Nice content brother I been watching your videos for awhile, So I have a Asus Rog rapture gt-Axe 11000 and 1 Asus Zenwifi pro ET12, I was think of Selling my Asus rog AXe11000 and getting another Asus zenwifi pro et12 to match, Do you think I will get better speeds or it won't matter?
Does the firmware allow me to have two separate lans such that my home computers and mobile phones and tablets are in one lan and my IOT devices are on another lan? I’d like to have it so that the computers can access the IOT devices by the IOT devices cannot access my computers. Another words the communication Hass to start from a computer in order for there to be communication between the two lans. If this doesn’t support VLANs, perhaps something can be done with the guest network and static routing?
Awesome video. I recently got the xt12 and used this video to try and navigate through the app and website to turn on all security features. Any advice on how to secure the network even more ?
I can’t figure out how to make the mesh balance the draw from multiple devices. If a couple heavy users are on some devices can’t even access internet or get dropped. My old Orbi would do this automatically.
Hi, I am always having problem with it and I have to restart it in order to have it work again. The software is up to date. Now I am traveling and it disconnect again and I can’t connect to my home devices. Is there a way to restart it again remotely by mobile App?
hi i have 5 of the old xt8 asus mesh devices running at my home. i will replace them with the et12's. is it enoughf when my main router is plugged in to my modem at router mode. and lets say device 2,3,4 are the xt8 and the 5 and 6th device are the et12? can i get the full speed from my last 2 et12 devices that are connected to my zt8 devices? all connections will be wired with wired backhaul mode. or can i get faster speeds when i replace them all with et12? thank you.
Can you please make a video on installing an ExpressVPN Open VPN to a network utilizing the ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 router? I haven't found one on RUclips and I can't get it to work fumbling around on my own. Thanks
I had installed my main router in the living room and things worked great. When I went to add the node into the back bedroom, my wifi went from 600-700 downloads to about 120down. Can't figure out why. I've also backhauled the node with ethernet plugging into the 2.5/1g WAN port. ANy ideas? I've been looking for videos or websites for help and can't seem to find out why my speeds are low on wifi. Thanks
This happened to me as well. It sound dumb, but I simply just rebooted everything (PC and both routers) and my numbers jumped back up. They have been fine ever since.
This router shines UNTIL your internet speed is above 1GB. I recently upgraded my service to 2GB. The router CANNOT deliver more than 1GB to the LAN Port. I've have a CAT8 cable from the 2.5GB Port that goes into a 8 x 2.5GB switch which plugs into a 2.5GB port on my computer. The highest speed I can get 860. This is bad!
It should be able to handle the 2GB internet speed, it will not always be maximizing the speed but with the hardware it should be able to get faster speeds. Perhaps you AiMesh setup is limiting the speed or WiFi band.
Recently got this but I opted to purchase 1 node as it's good enough for my home. I am still confused on what settings is the best. Should I leave OFDMA/MU-MIMO - DL/UP + MU MIMO OR download only 🤔
Turning off OFDMA is the same as going down to wifi5/AC as that modulation scheme is a big component to wifi6/AX. If you’ve only got one device then OFDMA won’t matter to you, but if you have half a dozen, a dozen or more then you will have better spectrum efficiency than with FDMA, TDMA or CDMA
Devices on your home network, you can setup 'VPN Fusion' in the Asus App or Web Interface with this you can setup a connection to a VPN Server (e.g. Nord VPN) and then choose the devices you want to use this specific VPN. So for example I have my Tablet selected to use a USA server so I can get other streaming content.
Do you have any suggestions on connecting legacy POE IP cameras? I am able to see the switch thru the device list, however I don't see any of the cameras. Thank you
Have you checked to make sure the IP camera's are setup to DHCP so they pick up the IP address automatically. As if the switch is showing then you should see the IP cams. Also perhaps check to see if switching off the 'AiProtection' will help as some legacy devices may be blocked via this.
Hello I just purchased iPhone 14 Pro. I know it does not support WiFi 6E, but my understanding is that the Zen WiFi Pro ET12 is backwards compatible with WiFi 6 that the iPhone 14 Pro supports. The phone only sees the 2.4 and 5 G bands of the ET12 Pro. I reset the router, the iPhone network and the entire iPhone. It still will not see that band. Any ideas?
iPhones like you said are only WiFi 6 compatible, this means they only see and connect to 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz bands. The 6Ghz is for WiFi 6e devices only, so no current Apple devices will see this band (As of Oct 2022)
I just ordered me this mesh system, i plan to use it in a wired backhaul config… question on how to best do this if using a 24port switch.. should i wire the 2 units directly using the 2.5ports and then the use the 1g lan port for my switch or use the 2.5g port through the switch?
I run modem to zenwifi1 to network switch to ethernet connected zenwifi2 in another room. I have ethernet ran to every room in the house from a panel where the modem and first zenwifi and switch are located.
I have 2gig internet speed, so my network switch is an 8 port 2.5gig switch. All cables are cat6. With this setup I get 2 gig by ethernet in every room of the house, and 2 gig by wifi on wifi6 more like 1gig on wifi5 devices.
I have a pair of ET12: they connect fine but trying to add my previous ASUS mesh units, the signal is weak as the back haul is 2.4ghz, not the 5ghz…any idea how to disable the 2.4 backhaul?
Login to your router GUI via your web browser the go to: AiMesh menu > Click the Node (router) you want to check > then click the option 'Management' > then select the dropdown from 'Backhaul Connection Priority' menu
Really useful videos and helped me immensely at the weekend when I installed a 3 pack version of the ZenWiFi Pro ET12 via ethernet backhaul. One question I have - my system set itself up as WPA2 - Personal. Should I try and change it to WPA3 Personal or is that something set by my ISP provider? Paul
Have you got these setup under AiMesh, as this is the best option. First check this menu to see if all the routers are showing. Second check within the AiMesh menu, click on each of the routers showing one at a time and then under; Management > Backhaul Connection Priority (drop down menu) > choose 5Ghz band to see if this helps as if on 6Ghz they may be to far apart. Or for the fastest connection try and make sure each one is selected as 6Ghz.
My HP printer I made sure it connected to the 2.4Ghz WiFi channel. If you can connect other device to the WiFi network then the issue is with the printer, so you may need to reset the printer settings to factory default as may be trying to connect to your old router.
@@EclipseReviews Thank you, but just for clarification, I was talking of the WAN Port of the satellite, not the LAN port > switch WAN to LAN, thats what I like to do.
Yes you just need to access it via the AiMesh menu under General Settings. Click the Node > Click 'Management' > Switch Control. This will launch the normal login screen for the router/node.
No it does not have 2FA currently as a feature, but you can enable for the login a CAPTCHA (a type of security measure known as challenge-response authentication) after so many failed login attempts.
Yes, I have Vodafone Fibre 900 and gives WiFi speeds of around 600-800Mbps. But depends as well on your connected WiFi devices support at least WiFi 6, also getting 900+ when connected via ethernet.
Yes, this the latest Asus Mesh WiFi 6E system. Is designed for larger homes as uses two routers connected by WiFi or Ethernet and uses the new 6Ghz frequency.
I have had them on and with all my 40+ devices connected for a few months now, and they have had no issues. Will try and do a 6 month review video to update everyone to confirm its still working.

Just purchased these... so far they are great. Thank you for the thorough review. Really appreciate it!!
Excellent series of videos. I just purchased this pair, and the reviews are exactly what I was looking for. 👌
Glad I could help
Nice one. There is no way on earth I would have got through all those settings 😂
Nice, I'm looking to upgrade my RT-AX88U and great to see the interface and majority of options are the same
Just ordered Twin Pack ............thank you for the runthrough!
