Can't believe i just watched 2 minutes of Damien Rice tuning and didn't mind it...
Hey there, I am a classical singer, I am 70 years old, and I stumbled upon M. Rice a few weeks ago on RUclips. He is reminding me how to commit to a song, which is a good lesson. So refreshing, many many thanks. Ps ... looking to buy a CD now, to put on the machine while I rest away the late summer afternoons.
When he played older chests, and I played along with him.. I was completely immersed. Then I saw at the end. Where he stood up. Even after all of these years. How the song moved him. How it hurt him. But still finding peace in the simplicity of loneliness. And not feeling completely empty but, losing hope while still holding onto it. That's Damien for you...
Beautifully wrote, liked your comment a year ago came back again today and it hit me again and so replying. When you suffer from hopelessness and that void remains intact no matter what you do, it definitely feels something to know that there are people out there who feels the same (nothing) and share the same love for someone. His voice is like it had aged like a fine wine that it is addicting, always better than a store made vino products.
Maybe the most true of Delicate's versions of I've seen. Simple, 1 guitar, 1 voice, yet very powerful. There's no distraction from the emotions he lives throughout the performance.
The rhythm was probably dictated by the gentle waves of the sea. Perfect.
The way this looks like a VHS makes it even more lovely
Damien Rice is cursed to have written, at the beginning of his career, some of the most gorgeous and achingly sad songs ever written. He is doomed to play them until the day he dies.

First time listening to Damien sing again in 5 years. The Professor and Older Chests here broke me; the raw emotions from all those years ago instantly come back.
Damien was always so unique in his improvisations; no 2 live performances of a song were always the same.

This is from this summer on his Wood Water Wind tour, particularly this was previously to performing in Palma de Mallorca, he sailed off the catalan coast to the island of Mallorca. This sight is called "cala Deià", beautiful location on the north shore of the island.

i'm interested in Damian's choice of guitar, it's an all mahogany martin obviously, either 000 or OM but the model looks custom. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks. Would the V = vintage? It's different from standard 15Ms in that the finish is gloss rather than satin.
actually, it is a vintage Martin 00-15 which is all-mahogany model. Damien also uses Martin 00-18v(sitka spruce top, mahogany back & side) sometimes as well.

Did someone notice this as I do? I feel that every Damien Rice song and shows are about his own broken life story around Lisa. Jist think about it, the message he is giving with his lyrics, as if he's wanting Lisa to listen, to come back and heal him. Is so fucking sad.
