Matt and Tim explain the different ways to fish a fluke and how to use it to its full potential. This isn't just a bait for schooling fish or fry guarders during the post spawn. The fluke can be fished as a topwater one minute and as an aggressive reaction bait in 40+ feet of water the next.

Probably subbed to about 50 fishing channels and tactical bassin is the only one I make sure I watch every video from
Tip on tungsten weights. Go to any welding store. Buy some Tig welding electrodes (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, etc). Their cheap, about 7 or 8 bucks for 10 rods. Each rod can make about 5-6 pcs. You got yourself 50-60 pc tungsten neko rig style weights for under 10 dollars.

What do you use to cut them down? Bolt cutters?
Trey Redding anything hard. Hammer is best. put the electrodes rod on the edge of a table with the length desire sticking out. using a hammer, hit the part sticking out with a quick tap. It'll break cleanly off. If you hit it hard or slow... itll split the electrodes. a light tap will do it. no need for Thor's hammer. ;)

I literally have been fishing forever. I'm almost 70 and my dad took me fishing before I started school. I was just kind of thinking about how things have changed. When I started, mono was the new line and everyone used braid. It was dackron but it fished like braid does today. Casting reels were hard to cast. Spinning rods were all two piece. Garcia hadn't even made the ambassador yet. The creme scoundrel was the only plastic worm. Lowrance hadn't even invented the flasher yet. The first one was called simply the green box. You know something. We caught a ton of fish without so much. Then about twenty years later tackle got better. Almost all casting rods we 5 !/2 foot long. We still caught a bunch of bass.I am in a totally different financial situation than most people and can buy about anything I want but I wonder if a lot of the younger people don't feel overwhelmed. When I was growing up, I had a spinning rod and a casting rod. That was it. Most of my friends had one fishing "pole". I would hate to be one of the younger people today and decide I wanted to take up fishing. I am afraid that I would just find something else to do, whether it was golf, bowling or anything for that matter. When we are talking upwards of 300 dollars for a decent rod and reel and being forced to think that you need at least a half a cozen at the minimum, the cost would be overwhelming. Consider the cost of a bass boat and a tow vehicle, that is a ton of money even used. If a guy has any aspirations of raising a family, he better have wealthy parents or his dreams are going to be crushed before he starts. I really do think it is time for the fishing industry as a whole to take a giant step back and start thinking about the future. I am sitting here in my office looking at at least a dozen rods and reels in the rod rack along with God knows how much tackle. I won't even mention the hunting equipment. I bought 90% of the stuff when prices were cheaper and don't really have to ever buy another thing but I am the exception, not the rule.For some kid to think he needs seven foot plus rods is basically crap. The only rod I use that is 7 foot is my crank bait rod. I never use my flipping stick so I don't count it. Personally, I had elbow surgery and hand surgery and prefer a six and a half foot rod, but that is just me. Ok, I have vented. I just think the fishing industry as a hole is short sighted when they keep releasing new tackle that is designed to catch fishermen as much as catching fish. With the exception of electronics, there haven't been any huge advancements in years. Sure a 3d printer makes it possible to make great swimbaits but a lot of people catch big fish without them.
Appreciate the perspective. It’s definitely overwhelming for a beginner. Just walk into any bass pro shop and walk nineteen different isles of works 🤦🏻♂️.
I think what you call confusing and convoluted is what makes this sport so much fun. You can catch fish everyday on a single rod and a senko. Or you can go insane chasing every method of fishing. Theres something for everything and everyone.
I agree. I am 65 and yes a women. Been fishing since I was a kid taught by my grandpa and dad starting with a cane pole....lol. I still have many of the old baits which I use successfully. I remember my dad injecting plastic worms with air to make them float. My favorite old bait that I always caught bass on i recently lost. Can't find one like it. It was a black hula popper about an inch and a half long, round and fat with red mouth and no skirt. I find when I use a bait less common i have much better luck. Both my daughters fish also. They have all the modern stuff including different rigs and tying methods but i still catch the most. They laugh at some of my methods and older baits, but I get the last laugh. So it is true about fish getting used to seeing the same baits all the time and not hitting them.
It depends on the person, I have 2 spinning combos and 2 baitcaster combos and none of them cost over 150$. My 2 baitcasters are around 100 each and they are good combos a Abu Garcia and a Lews. You dont need a special rod for every type of lure like these guys do. I throw everything on any of my rods it doesn't really matter. Its only the pros that think they need a combo for every lure they have lol. I love tactical bassin but Matt and Tim are a little overboard and OCD with every little tiny thing, Matt could write a book on one lure lol.

When I first saw a fluke I immediately fell in love with them because they can be used so many ways the practically replaced my senko and I can also do more I fish the deep and I catch more than the other two guys using every other deep water bait not only do I catch more but I also catch bigger ones too flukes are my favorite bait and I love how you guys are teaching me even more techniques.
You guys have made me a better fisherman. Smashed the smallies this spring on both hard and soft jerks, I've used the s-waver and quickly gained confidence after catching a 3lb smally. Underspins, finesse jigs, chatterbaits, I have been more versatile and confident with my fishing this year because of the success I've had using the tips you've given. Do as they say, people!
I think that the fluke is one of the most used baits in South Africa when it comes to just getting a bite, even more so than any drop shot, wacky, or Ned rig. It’s one of my go too’s, and thank you to you guys for the tips to be a little different on the pressures waters I fish. It has saved me the skunk too many times to count.
Flukes are awesome. I started fishing using nothing but flukes. Now I fish them two different ways. One is TX rig weightless. The other is through the nose with a 1/0 hook. I use 3 and 4/0 hooks for Texas rig. Which one I use depends on the size of fluke I'm fishing with. When I rig through the nose, I'm using a smaller fluke. They're fun to use.

the fluke is the most versatile and best bait ever made. I've been using them since they came out in the early 90s
Wife pulled in a nice bass from the bank on a 5'5" Shakespeare combo from walmart on a live worm. And she was using it like a cane pole. I'm happy to throw on a Ugly Stick spinning combo all day long. As soon as she realized it was not a bream, did not hesitate to flip it; was a good day tater.
Most people have a dedicated frog rod but I have a fluke rod. I always have a fluke tied on and I sort my hooks by weight to control the sink rate. I like the nail weight idea, i'll be using that. You can can also change how they swim by bending the nose up or down as you stick the hook through it. A little up turned nose (although snobby) will make the bait jump out of the water more easily.
Don't know if you guys have ever covered the Kayak fishing topic, might be a cool video. Just talking about general kayak fishing techniques that might vary from being in a boat since you're in such a smaller vessel.
You can get in some good spots that you can't get in in bigger boats as well which would be nice to hear them say where

Flukes are an absolute bait to have tied on. It has proven many catches, as I call it the sweeper. When others have covered the same ground with out any bites. The fluke dominates the field as a follow up or just as a primary bait of choice. Donkey Rig, C Rig , Damiki, are other methods that this bait makes it happen. Great info as always Boys. Don't forget the Tandem-Fluke rig. With each & every twitch of the rod tip, one fluke darts one way as the other darts in a different direction at the same time. Absolutely deadly. Looks like a small school of baitfish scrambling to escape.

I had a pack of flukes in my box on a day years ago when my entire tackle box had been in the lake without success. I read the back of the package and started banging a smallie every cast. It's my go to lure now, I love that little piece of plastic.
I started using the nose rig method a couple weeks ago in a shalow water pond and I've been nailing them.

I've always nailed them on the back up front but their way works well also
I know it has smallies but the main lake is mostly just beach idk how you would fish it, like what areas do smallies even stay in? I live in michigan and I've never heard of any main lake smallie fishing. just the bays and marinas and such.

Been fishing a Sluggo for over 20 years. Has probably accounted for 80% of my 4 pound plus fish. it’s one of the original, most simple flukes. Doesn’t look like much, but great action and a killer when dead sticked.
In my limited fishing experience, I had never thrown the fluke until after watching your video. Wow, what was I thinking before??? This method has improved my outings two fold!! Thanks again for the excellent vids

Flukes are always setup on one of my rods. My personal favorite way to catch black bass or Strips. Ya forgot to mention double riggin it for top water or a adding weight to to it like Carolina rigging. These flukes are so versatile you can fish it so many ways. Thanks for the in debt content. Fantastic info. Table Rock bass mostly in 30 feet of water. Carolina rig tips worked, drop shot tips slayed, so I'm sure the weighted fluke tips will kill'em. Thanks . Grats on your phenomenal viewer growth!
I’ve heard of the first 2 ways but that deep water set up is definitely something I’m going to look into, I’ve always pulled up on deep spots around 20 foot and have seen fish on the bottom finder but throwing Carolina rigs and rattle traps don’t always work! I have never heard of anyone doing that here in northern and central Florida and I throw flukes Texas rig top water and I even use it in beds, but deep water is definitely going to be a staple for me!

I have found that using a super fluke on a shaky head works great as well. Hop it along the bottom. Give it a try.

Being a effective angler with minimal space I just changed to a neko hook from that wacky hook, now I can change over to neko super fast.
I’ve been hammering the smallies on the banjo rig in the high mountain Northern California lakes, super clear water. I’ve been most effective with 4# Pline on a spinning rod with a fairly quick retrieve. I gonna have to take it to the next level and try this deep water application. Love your videos guys, thanks for helping up my game, I’ve only been Bass fishing for about 3 years now and love trying new approaches.
Flukes work great for walleye jigging as well casting or vertical. I haven’t seen much of a difference compared to live bait once you figure the jigging technique for them. Sometimes they want it fast, other times more of a slow long hop off the bottom. We rig them on a gumball drop, sometimes with a stinger.

My go to river bait for the past 20 years is definitely a white zoom fluke weightless texas rig. Ive probably caught more smallmouth on that bait than any other.

If you fish open water with a fluke, line through rigging them with a rivet sleeve in the nose and a larger trebel hook in the belly is sick. Super high hookup to landing ratio. I typically run a size 4 trebel on the regular super fluke. Just skin hook one hook up under the belly so the two other hooks are exposed below. Just something to try!

Thanks for the info guys. The super fluke is one of my favorite baits!! I mainly throw it texas rigged with 1/8th ounce weight & 4/0 ewg.... and the fish tear it up!! I'll have to give it a try weightless and see how the bite is.

Paul Savadin Yes I peg the weight. I prefer a tungsten bullet weight over the belly weight.
I also rig on a Carolina rig on kid or rock bottoms. When hooked weedless, you and sink it to the bottom and when you twitch it, the fluke jumps off the bottom and gently sinks back to the bottom. My son likes to give a couple of short twitches and then a 2 second pause. It's proved deadly on lethargic fish, especially after a cold front.
I love fishing a fluke. There's a pond I fish often and I hate to carry multiple rods. I usually go with a medium action spinning set up (10lb braid, 8lb fluoro leader) and a 3/0-4/0 ewg hook so I can throw a fluke or if they are biting that, I can Texas rig a senko. Only thing is I realized the pond is actually pretty shallow in most spot spots and the bass hit a wacky rigged senko better with that slower rate of fall. I saw your original fluke video with the cps ring trick a while back. I bought some and this week I went to the pond with my spinning set up with a 1/0 neko hook tied on. My plan was to throw the fluke and if nothing hit I could wacky rig a senko. I never cracked the Senkos. I smashed like 7-8 bass in a little over and hour. I'm a believer for sure

I love using flukes, use them all the time. I use them for Striper Fishing & Largemouths. Ever since you made that fluke rigging video last year I've used them alot more along with jerkbaits. Since that video all i use is the Banjo Minnow style to crush Stripers. Wal-Mart has flukes dirt cheap. Love the Video Keep'em coming.🎣😎🎣😎🎣😎🎣

Caught my first set of doubles (Smallmouth) on the Donkey Rig right in front of a non-believer this past Spring. Great action!
When bass are schooling here that is a deadly rig. I use the Berkley soft plastic jerk bait, can't remember the name but they are super realistic. You can work them under the water or make them jump out of the water and looks like shad fleeing on top of water. Deadly on striper too

Great tips - I’ll add one on the deep rigged mag fluke - 6th Sense has a heavy 5/8 Divine shaky head that works great for this technique.
