Well that's how all music works really. Music in a vacuum is meaningless. There needs to be a story, a reason for its existence, a brand/identity behind. It needs to be "remarkable" in the original definition of the word: worth remarking upon. That's how it spreads because people have a reason to tell others.
This video is so well made. The way you keep it continuous without any breaks or stops really helps with keeping the flow of thought when your explaining something in real time.
Blown away at the presentation style. Talking and explaining at the same time as the music examples. The seamless style (build as you go) is so engaging (and it doesn't hurt that the song itself is pretty awesome). Your pacing is excellent too, not staying on one thing for too long but also not rushing. I loved it! Subbed!
Haha yeah I always wondered if that juxtaposition would hurt me on RUclips, But I'm glad some seem to be into it. I just couldn't bring myself to do that mega hyped influencer thing, not me at all! 👊
i used to be a producer and this video is just brilliant. Back in the days I would also go through the top tracks of a genre and then simply copy the most common features. Eventually I even got somehwat of a "hit" and made some money that I used to finance college. Sometimes I miss those days
so glad I stumbled across your channel a few weeks back, your ability to break down theory into easy-to-follow concepts is unmatched! Great video once again 🙏
I’ve spent almost 20 years of my life writing melodic music, recently a friend asked me to teach how how to produce and he’s big into tech house, I couldn’t for the life of me get anything to sound good, I could get it sounding ok but not decent, I now know that’s because I was writing in minor! Great video! Defo earned a sub with notis on 💯
Yes please do another video on this where we would not expect other scales would love to see that this is very helpful when working with modular and stuff like this
Dance genres are often about knowing the techniques rather than outright music theory. I think alot of modern genres are very limited or narrowband musically because they land on a sound and that becomes the genre. Soon gets repetitive and boring, hence why modern genres don't last long.
This videos are incredible. The continuous mix & drop in demoing what you're talking about really make the perfect daw / sound design tutorials. You'll be inspiring a lot of other channels very soon , thank you !
this has to be one of the best videos I've seen. In quality, in lessons, the way the track keeps playing along and evolving, and the song is actually really good lol
As a DJ, the bit about why the key detection algorithms go wrong was absolutely fascinating. It's something I've obviously known happens for years, but to dig into the theory of where the algorithm is failing was very informative.
I've been watching so many tutorials and felt like i was going no where until I came across your video. Simple to understand and executed perfectly ! Looking forward to watching all your vidoes ! Thank you
@Ahungryhungarian I get them from splice. I don't normally recommend subscriptions of any kind, I think it's an insidious payment model. But I find Splice Absolutely worth it.
Very interesting. I was writing some tunes the other day and was wondering why Beatport was telling me everyone was writing in a Major scale. And then wondering why I couldn't get that darker tone I was looking for. I knew straight away what was going on once I started playing around, and I confirmed it through a tutorial of one of the bigger producers and compared the melodic notes he was writing to what the scale of the track was in that Beatport was telling me. Good to see Beatport STILL hasn't fixed that issue on their site since I was buying tunes 10 years ago... It's a basic bit of info that DJs rely on and they can't even get it right.
It's just an algorithm. The fact no rival (Mixed In Key, Rekordbox, etc.) can improve on it suggests the technology just isn't there at the moment. You still need to trust your ears and judge for yourself is something sounds major or minor and whether it's sounding harmonic with other tracks it's supposedly in key with.
I promise you all, this guy and "You suck at producing" are the best educators when it comes to this stuff. Everyone else knows only as much as you do, they just started to make educational videos as they came across "happy mistakes". Thanks Bthelick. Would love a Fred Again/ Mall Grab/ Bicep video.
Thank you Christopher 🙏. Fred, Mall, and Bicep all on the list for sure! Regarding tension / building I do go into that in my "how to drop" video if you have seen it; ruclips.net/video/kcBGoxHDGmU/видео.htmlsi=L8XPoelLBFIIkPoM. And I go into structure in this one; ruclips.net/video/oZmSOfOQEfg/видео.htmlsi=NN1QKUEtFaUwyQaL I still have more to say on those subjects though so keep an eye out 👊
Thank you for sharing the knowledge!!! This is one of the easiest to follow tutorials I've ever watched, just 10 minutes long and still way more useful than most I had seen before. You earned a sub with this one :)
I rarely enjoy production videos due to the pacing and the information given, but you sir have made some wonderful videos, going through them and reviewing a lot of the information, good stuff! Thanks :)
What an incredible video. Even as someone with a limited understanding of music production, the track being played and edited throughout the video was super helpful and made for an enjoyable watch. Thank you!
Hands down the best tutorial channel on youtube! Thanks so much for these videos... been using ableton for years but the amount of progress I've made lately, due to your style of breakdown and presentation has been something else! Thanks again man! much appreciated
This video was in my recommendations and after watching it I immediately subscribed and am now going to watch as many of this channel’s videos as I can . This was all done so incredibly well, thank you for this !!
You deserve a beer not a coffee... I been researching on this pattern for a while , happy to see somebody nailing it. thanks. Even dom dollla started taking these dark vibes for tech house.. As per my realisation its been inspired from dark vibes of Meldoic techno like cassian , anyma and many more. I really love these new vibe of the . Make me think a lot when hear the chords and vibes.
simply brilliant! you are on of the few youtubers who just brings everything to the table without the bullshit and advertisement... just found you, and subscribed! good and valuable content! keep it up!
as previous commenters have already stated, i have to add a a bit more and also reiterate, because this is the most captivating tutorial I've ever seen, usually my ADHD driven brain can NOT stay on a music tutorial for more than couple minutes, but the fact that you kept on playing the music and just changing the elements, kept me hooked subbed and will watch more tutorials of yours, brilliant
@@Bthelick Looking forward to it, been lately invested in producing more techy, trancy and psy stuff, so if you're planning more tutorials on those topics, I'm looking forward to it, because I'm still no good at it.

Great video on the spirit of this genre. Some actual music theory for Techno and Techhouse. Gonna send this to my jazz composer friend who has been fucking around with Techno and Techhouse and thought about making the song more interesting by creating a full ass chord progression with sustained melodies, modal interchanges and a middle 8 and everything.
😂 haha yeah jazzers do be like that! That used to be me too, but part of becoming a great musician is a holistic approach, knowing culture, groove, and context. In a room of black walls, lasers, and MDMA hitting them with maj/min9b13 is just gonna send them under 🤣🤣 Tell him to try soulful house instead he'll be all over that!
@TheJennisda we had complications with the vocal version and are still trying to release it, there is only a 2 min instrumental version so far it's called "Psycho Look".
That was really interesting - been trying to find out the essential music theory for other house genres recently....i might try a tech house track after watching this...thanks!
fantastic info. been making a track in e minor and learning the chords this morning. imagine mixed in key getting it wrong! thats the whole point of the software. wow.
Nice work man!
I learned a bunch from this video and im one of the producers on the original track 😅
OMG welcome sir it's an honor! 👊❤
Lol amazing I love RUclips
The content isn’t style particular but universal!
Thanx to the author
😂😂😂
Westend!!!😈
The way this video is mixed with the track you're developing being constantly played is absolutely fantastic, hats off.
outstanding!
Agree! This is an awesome concept! 👍
This
Absolutely. I wonder if you would make more money from a video like this than you would just releasing the track? But excellent tuition definitely

The tech house she told you not to worry about:
Hands down one of the best music writing videos I’ve seen in YEARS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
it's so amazing how you explain everything so calmy and creating a track that's hard as shit at the same time 😂

The good trance, dance is from the 90's. It was a another world and real music.
The pace of the narration/tutorial over the top of the track in this is fantastic. Rolls along like a sports commentary almost.
That beat with the sine wave was fire
That Phrygian scale explanation really helped me understand the notes in modern tech house tracks. Thank you!!!
The production level on this video is INSANE. Very very well done. Subscribed.

editing on this is amazing, love having the track constantly going in the back. looking forward to more 🙏🏻
