    That happens all the time when you write lines with your mouse. That's why after I draw the main idea I play it with a midi keyboard after. Then you get all these tasty notes in a more natural way, IMO.

    after listening to the examples on both headphones and just phone speaker, the biggest difference is that the longer lead notes don't let the bass notes poke through as much or as independently. Giving the bassline some room to breathe and some notes poking through between lead notes also is another element of bounciness to a track. Great video, I learned a lot.

    I wasn't able to guess that it was the note length that was different, but I noticed that the second examples always sounded much cleaner to me; so I guess the gaps from the shortened note lengths was making it sound less messy/more clear? Maybe it's just me 😅 Great insight as always! 👌

    One method of doing this, is if you can play chords or notes on a instrument (even if like myself it's only for two or three times). Is to make sure it's turned on before playing and then use the retrospective record feature in your DAW. This way you have human notes and velocities you can turn into a loop. You can also quantize as much or as little as you like.

    I have always been taught in electronic genres to sidechain everything to the kick, especially have the bass at 100%/ducking 100%. But I notice in this video that you haven’t sidechained the bass in the disco track or the piano in the piano house track. Why? I always sidechain all elements when I have a 4 on 4 kick to get that rolling/pumping sound otherwise the drop can sound too familiar with the verses, breaks or build up. Would be interesting to hear your take on this!

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  2 месяца назад +2

      Yes I side chain most things usually, bass for headroom and the rest for groove. The bass is side chained on the disco track, that's what the multiband is doing. I didn't think it warranted a separate sub track as I didn't need 'club' bottom end on that track, but I still needed to sidechain the different frequencies .
      Re the piano there may be a sidechain on a group or I might not have needed one. Sometimes if I'm going for a more old school groove I don't use a side chain because they didn't.

      Unfortunately I've been trying to make you a quick short reply for the last 2 days but all of RUclips's tech is currently broken and doesn't work.
      The kick probably isn't what you think, there are two disco loops on top which are providing most of the flavor and "smack" , and that is probably the bulk of what you are hearing.
      The kick itself is pretty dull and short it's called thud from a pack called soul wave 3 .
      The top loops are "nightclub" from a Retro Strut pack, and "sweater" from an Oliver funk pack.
      The top loops are high passed at 200ish

    @Bthelick Hi Bthelick, thanks for another great video!
    For the example with the Ample funky bass do you 1) layer with a sine wave sub? 2) Do you do any side chaining with the kick? I have always wondered with these types of basses thanks.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  2 месяца назад +1

      This time I didn't layer it. Real bass does sometimes need help in the subs as they can be 1st harmonic dominant, especially fender p basses. But this track I'm not going for 'club' bottom end, it's just a chill groove thing, so I decided it was good enough as is.
      I used the Ableton multiband to sidechain the different frequency bands though.
