- This video is of a short drive using the Volvo I-shift. I am driving a 2010 Volvo 780 (VNL 780) with Volvo I-shift gear ratios 3:2. This drive shows how easy and effortless the transmission shifts through the gears using the Volvo I Shift dual clutch. The Volvo AMT Transmission offers great fuel mileage with "eco-roll". The manual shifting options allows you to choose your gears when you need to. This transmission is comparable to driving a car. The Volvo I Shift is the same as the Mack mDrive. Reverse is also great and offer zero lag between stopped and moving. When compared to the freightliner with an ultrashift, this is this transmission is a breeze.
Check out my other video for a little more detail "How to shift Volvo I-Shift Tractor Trailer"
Here are a couple links for more info about the Ishift models.

Really very nice video 👌... I am driving Automatic Volvo in Coal Mines in India
Very informative, I came here before buying a FM hookloader with I-shift.
Being an old school driver I’m trying to accept the concept of an automatic transmission in trucks.Being able to muscle the heavy tonnage has always been my sticking point. However in getting older and working in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic all these years I’m starting to see the value of them.🤗
The i shift in the volvos are automated manual transmission ... ive seen an 8x6 volvo here in Australia built for road trains with the i shift
Technology make things better.
Wow great video! Nice that it's from a drivers perspective
Gear mein padhaai karte hue

Thanks for that helpful information sir!👍
Thanks.
Very helpful video.
Looking to buy my own truck and what I am researching is the reliability factor of AMTs and full automatics. It' doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the repairs on an automatic will be outrageous.
In manual will it stay in a high gear if you come to a junction and stop, or will you need to tap it down to 1st
Terbaik ,mantap boh
They have a fix for the seat belt yet? I drive these trucks in auto but manually shift. It seems to get up to speed a lot quicker. The hill assist sucks. And always have to feather the throttle.
Cool. What about the L on the back and the F mode when you press the top button in? What does that mean?
I want to know about the L also! Have you figured that out in the meantime? Also, I don't think it's an F, I think it's a P for performance mode.
Is automatic transmission on a truck good and cheap to maintain?
Love it 👍🏼
When shifting in manually should you release the Gass pedal
thats an awesome invention and simple. can you switch from manual to drive while rolling?
Yes, just like in a car.
No problem
That fuel gauge is giving me anxiety. GET TO THE FLYING J QUICK LIKE!
😂🤣😂 Me too
Speedometer working? Pretty slow at 11 gear
The comments are the perfect example of truckers having nothing better to do then find something to bitch at you about.
dude your on Echale bro.
Gaadi agar Chadhai me khaDi ho jaae to kis gear me uthegi
Nice
No DEF gauge?
Can you go from D to M while moving? Do you need M mode for hill climb or you just put in the D and let it do the work?
You can put it into P mode if you are hauling a heavy load. That's all you need to do actually. And Yes you don't have to change it from D to M. Just use the knop on the left side to change gear.
Mine is showing L sometimes then refused to shift until turned off for a few and turn it back on. D L bottom behind d shift is not working. What can I do
My automatic won't go into drive what's the problem
i want to be the guy that gets the road call for out of fuel call. LOl you made it too easy.
Hah. You beat me to it. That looks scary low. Fuel notwithstanding this piece of work is really done nicely.
muito bem!
Freightliner DT12 is easier. Turn the selector to drive and go. Same for reverse
A lot better then Freightliner auto
speedo work?
Good
How many gear does it have?
I used to haul milk in a smooth bore tanker. I wonder if this I-shift can handle that! I sure wouldn't want it, especially if I were in snowy or icy conditions. Having a manual with a kicking load would almost be a must.
It can handle it, you can drive it manually, just push the buttons, it shifts like a paddle shift on a sports car... no jerking, just smooth...
It can certainly handle it. Your manual tranny kicks everything around to begin with. A smooth acceleration would keep everything in place from front to back. Lateral liquid movement has nothing to do with either transmission.

That truck has over 500.000 miles. What year is that truck?
Truck needs fuel bro... great video
lol right
what was the meaning of I shift?
vignesh.s naik Intelligent-Shift
Resale value after 1mln... Hehehe 0 Did I mentioned nice & comfortable drive... Hehehe
Fuel gauge is scary
One would start with explanation what the buttons on shifter do.. Hehehe
One up one down what's so hard?
Does this Volvo have retarder ?
How does it work?
Why are your batteries showing 13 - 14 volts ? Is the reading showing a battery and not the alternator output?
That's the Alt output...

I figured these trucks were old because of the no frills display lol (coming from american truck simulator)
Driving on empty fuel not good!
detroit ghetto , no he doesn't, tanks on that truck or only 100 gallons each with about 90 plus usuable, depending if you really try to cap them off or not.
He had about 25 gallons give or take left in that truck.Split between both tanks so about 10 to 12 gallons in each tank. I had one for 3 years and almost have the title, best truck in my opinion.
Nah - It's a 5 year old Volvo so the gauge probably wasn't working anyway.
Only if they made the manual clutches lighter, I wouldn't have needed this auto shit.
Omg too much easy rather than manual transmission truck
No body explains L button

Going 0mph. Wtf
Really good until breaks down.. Hehehe & here we go... Volvo warranty specify that they fix it... Hehehe but not exchange for new i mean brand new urs is, am i right.. Hehehe so they exchange for used rebuild one.. Hehehe warranty observed.. Hehehe now if they have one if not u & truck waiting & u waited for appointment too.. Hehehe bfr they touch anything they need approval from head mechanic from Volvo headquarters.. Hehehe after all is done now they need to check & adjust error codes.. Hehehe u follow...oops month is gone.. Hehehe how much did u made... Go to the bank & cry.. Hehehe if they care.. Forgot u stayed in hotel bcs they told u few days.. Hehehe after few days.. Hehehe after few days... & not always they pay 100% for towing..hehehe bcs of that transmission when u down call Volvo let them deal with towing bcs drive line has to be disconnected & ordinary Joe won't know that.. Hehehe or ur warranty will fly away.. Hehehe ask Volvo..
That's pretty much any company Today but Toyota seems to have better costumer service than others. But pretty much any company will screw you over for warranty repairs until so many people make it a lawsuit.
Air pressure volue to low
Athumani Athumani if air pressure is low it wont engage gear .
ലൗ you toooo
I switched to local way too many automatics this Volvo is by far the most confusing. The ones we have don't have the +/- So we have different trans I'm getting tired of these autos
What's confusing? Up and downshifting? If that's confusing to you, you shouldn't be driving.
Dumbass Chico giving sign to the customer service cause you can't comprehend or understand simple English
Cell phone in hand while driving a commercial vehicle = $2,750 fine. Get a GoPro, or some other dashcam device for doing onboard videos.
another person can shoot the video. that would be much better.
He could be on a range and not on the road...controlled environment for video purposes (Just Sayin'). Dirt Mats on floor like it was just serviced....I agree though "NO CELLPHONES IN HANDS WHILE DRIVING!!!"
Bhaha :( this reminds me of back in February when I hitched a ride with a guy who talked on the phone with one hand throughout the trip, and used his other hand to change gears/eat sweets. He was using his elbow to actually turn the wheel left and right.
Never hitching a ride again.
Considering it has floor protectors I'm definitely sure he's driving on a lot.
diving with sell phone in your hand NO GOOD!!!
I shift garbage I keep my 18sp
You've got to move with the times, Gramps. Automatic transmissions used to be crap, I'll grant you. But modern transmissions like the i-Shift are great. Besides, driving an 18-speed road ranger in the city sucks ass.
