🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
    ⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

A friend used to work for a company that supplied the arctic cat factory. When trucks were late, the company was fined $25,000 per hour. The company doing this business made sure to have extra trucks just sitting and waiting along those routes so that they could just hook on if a tractor broke down.

Lexan is polycarbonate which is a lot tougher than Plexiglass which is acrylic. The down sides to Lexan are:
    1) It degrades when exposed to hydrocarbons
    2) It degrades in sunlight.
Both are fixed by having a layer of something else on the outside surface

Yeah, polycarb is the only common material that I know of that gets regularly described as functionally indestructible. FRC robotics teams use it for the intake, which sticks out past the perimeter of the robot and gets rammed into walls and other robots at high speed regularly, and rarely, if ever, breaks.

Polycarbonate is also more scratch prone than acrylic. Polycarbonate creeps a little more and doesn't take quite as high temperature. Polycarbonate WILL still crack and shatter if there's a scratch in the wrong spot or you hit it fast enough. It's good stuff but not a miracle material.

Polycarbonate/acrylic laminates are used for up-armored vehicles. Problem is that if the acrylic is on the outside, it'll still crack easy if you get a rock. A acrylic sheet outside a and a polycarbonate sheet inside would be interesting, and then just give drivers an extra rear window to slide in whenever it cracks, and acrylic is relatively cheap. Your driver protection is in the polycarbonate, and the acrylic keeps it looking nice.
Not sure about how much light distortion you will get...

Since the custom radiator is being designed from the ground up, is it possible to alter the design of it or the truck to allow both options?
Essentially the truck would sold with the custom radiator installed, but is capable of having that radiator swapped out for 2 standard radiators in the event the OEM is not available for whatever reason.

The difference between lexan and plexiglass, is that lexan is polycarbonate, and plexiglass is acrylic.
Polycarbonate is what safety glasses are made of, and is very shatter resistant.
Acrylic is more likely to shatter, but is easier to work with as far as heat bending, cutting and chemical welding go.
You should look to see if 3M have some kind of a film you can put on the rear window to protect it from scratches, like an oversized screen protector.
Now that I think of it, the screens in the cab should probably come with tempered glass screen protectors as standard, being in a heavy work truck.
As far as language goes, how can you trust a logger, trucker or mechanic that doesn't swear?

The radiator for the batteries and inverter/generator should be mounted in front of the engine radiator just like you would for an air conditioning condenser. This is to apply the coolest air possible and to allow for proper shrouding of the main radiator for optimal air flow during non-ideal cooling time IE idling. The engine's radiator is fine to be in the back as it offers far more surface area for heat dispersion.

I agree with the idea to make up a rolodex of good, trusted truckers.
One of the biggest problems I saw with the trucking industry while I was in the business was that there are little to no relationships between shippers/receivers and the trucking companies they use. They just post something up on the load boards through a broker and then it goes to the lowest bidder. Then the shipper or receiver complains when there's less-than-reliable truckers hauling their stuff.

honestly dude the cost and pain now could pay off big in the long run if you can create your own internal shipping service. there are many examples of companies creating a support secondary company and that ends up being successful on its own.
if you are having this type of issue with this kind of freight its likely others are as well. if you get it figured out for your fleet it would be pretty straight forward to use any extra capacity to offer shipping services for others and have a secondary source of income for the business. especially if you can someday do the runs using your own trucks, then you save money on the equipment, get free advertisements, potentially write off some or most of the costs of the fleet (im not a expert in taxes though) and control your own production workflow.
