One thing I love about the movie is how everyone thinks Melanie is super crazy because she does this whole revenge fantasy when she literally went out with Nick ONCE!
This movie tries so hard to make sure the audience has no idea what's happening that it forgot to tie everything together at the end to avoid the negatives of making sure your audience is confused the whole time. It really thinks it's doing something amazing the whole time.

De plane!" everytime a new flight arrived bringing guests. Celeb guest stars would be the island guests that pay to live out some big fantasy that never turns out the way think it will. Sometimes it tirns into a nightmare. Each episode always ends with the guests learning some big life lesson.

10:51 Sloane wanting to get back with her husband might have been her fantasy/desire when she looked into the rock, but people's desires can change, especially in dramatic circumstances like the one she was in. In the face of certain death, the desire for a scenario where she has a chance of living should beat out anything else. Then again, as you've shown, the movie doesn't establish anything close to a clear set of rules, so you could really justify whatever you want here.
This just makes me sad that this was the last movie I saw in theaters before COVID shut everything down. So glad that theaters are starting to open up again.

Due to Jeremy referencing it, Frequency is such a good movie. I think that it’s an underrated film and I definitely recommend the watch. It gets a 8.2/10 out of me.
At best, this movie can be considered as showing what would happen on the island if the Devil had defeated Ricardo Montelban's Mr. Rourke in the episode that featured the Devil's challenge which included a couple whose wife was pregnant!

This movie truly felt like it had 26+ writers and they all picked a random point to pick up writing from. They were only given a beginning and an end. Like some random pass-the-story writing game.
I remember watching this on Valentine’s Day while everyone else was watching the photograph. Shit actually had me wishing that I’d watch that instead, and I hate romance/ chick flicks.
I as a firefighter myself have to say that theres special units who run into burning buildings, not everyone is immediately right equipped/trained to run into there and come out safely with the target person or even his own life so...
Great job you guys - The only thing that could've made this review better was a "rule change" counter, because there's about zero consistency in what the rules are, who's in control of them, why/how they exist, or what happens if you break them. It's like they just outlined scenes they wanted to happen, got shit faced, and started trying to connect any and all storylines before they blacked out.

This is the second show from my childhood (the other being The Banana Splits) in the last year or so that has been turned into a horror movie. Can't wait for the horror reboot of Taxi and Alf.

I saw this in the theatre and right before the movie actually started I joked about the main antagonist being Tattoo and he just snapped one day and started killing people who come to live out their fantasies but he twists the fantasies into their worst nightmare and makes them beg for death so that, in a very sick and twisted way, he's still helping them fulfill their fantasies. Holy fuck, that is the movie I *wish* I saw!
The timing of this is PERFECT 'cos I just watched this movie over the weekend! Honestly I think the biggest sin of all was not utilising Maggie Q's incredibly enriched action role background into this, especially with how heavy it is towards the 2nd half of the film.
I watched the original pilot many years ago, and it was a lot scarier than this, or the TV show. I suppose it was more suspense than horror, but it wasn't as bland as the TV show was. Basically it was a psychological thriller that held a mirror up to the guests, making them realize what they needed as opposed to what they wanted. Found an old quote from Montalban. He saw his character as a fallen angel stuck in Purgatory, which was the island. This is a backstory created by Montalban, but guides how he plated the role. The TV show was careful to O'Rourke's nature ambiguous. Satan made an occasional appearance (played by Roddy McDowall) which implied that O'Rourke was some sort of angel. Jeremy was pretty much spot on with this one. The script couldn't make up it's mind, some scenes revealed too much, and others nothing at all. Somethings needed to remain a mystery to make the story work. They also tried to shoehorn too much into the movie. One reviewer had a good suggestion: the movie should have been produced as a streaming miniseries instead.

As someone who grew up watching the original tv series, your feelings of "WTF is going on!?" "WTF are the rules!?" "Is Roarke in control or completely helpless!?" makes it the most accurate adaption of the show possible. Especially after season two.
no it isn't, that's why the dialogue is so cringy. teenagers are incredibly cringy and the way they talk is borderline. movies for teens are made for average kids, not weebs and kids who sit on the internet all day not actually socializing. If you had actually been around normal majority type teenage kids you'd see they do act the way movies portray them, but somehow even worse than that.

Also the reason why Sloane wasn't giving her own fantasy in the beginning, isn't she had nothing to do with the fire, and she has a direct link to Melanie, it would make it very obvious that Melanie is the mastermind, to punish Melanie too she would have to use torturing Sloane as a cover. Again, I agree it's pretty complicated, but that does make sense.

Actually, for the most part they are in control of their own fantasies, but the fantasies are tainted because of Melanie. In the people's fantasies they don't specify anything to prevent them from falling prey to anything. Melanie's fantasy was to allow each of the people she holds responsible to have their own fantasy that will go south while having a cover fantasy of getting to torture her bully. Brax and JD always hang together and would have the same fantasy, there was no need to give each one a fantasy and Sloane having a fantasy wouldn't allow her to be in the torture chamber to start with.
So here is how I saw it: I honestly like that all the fantasies meshed together. It kinda to me made the reveal it was someone else fantasy make sense. Now I don't know why the bully girl was actually kidnapped and brought there while everyone else had people that were magically appearing. Maybe it's because it was her fantasy that the people had to be actually there and the rest just got fake magic goo people in their fantasy. I think she didn't have an actual fantasy in that it wasn't anything specific like the others. Maybe her fantasy was to see them tortured from their fantasy but didn't anticipate they could die within them. Which is why she saved the bully. She still needed to reveal that a guy did want her i.e her worth. Also makes sense her recording it to have a memento to watch over and over. I think the deal with Rourke and the island is exactly what she said. He's the Genie and the island is his lamp. In other words, he might be the one granting it but the island is the magic that makes it possible. He has to obey the magic's rules (like Genies grant 3 wishes). Once people are on the island they become guests so he can choose to grant fantasy or not. In the end, he chose to grant their fantasies to help them out. As far as the wife dying over and over I think that's his punishment. Maybe early on he didn't grant fantasies and they do that to keep him compliant. Why kill her daily? Maybe at a certain point, he tried instead just not bringing anyone to the island. Would explain why he's just so beaten down. That Tatoo thing just made me say really. He has to stay on the island for the fantasy to stay in effect. Lord the Maggie Q thing was so contrived. My eyes rolled so hard because I knew granting her another fantasy was just so much plot convenience it hurt.

Due to Jeremy referencing it, Frequency is such a good movie. I think that it’s an underrated film and I definitely recommend the watch. It gets a 8.2/10 out of me.

At best, this movie can be considered as showing what would happen on the island if the Devil had defeated Ricardo Montelban's Mr. Rourke in the episode that featured the Devil's challenge which included a couple whose wife was pregnant!

This movie truly felt like it had 26+ writers and they all picked a random point to pick up writing from. They were only given a beginning and an end. Like some random pass-the-story writing game.

Great job you guys - The only thing that could've made this review better was a "rule change" counter, because there's about zero consistency in what the rules are, who's in control of them, why/how they exist, or what happens if you break them. It's like they just outlined scenes they wanted to happen, got shit faced, and started trying to connect any and all storylines before they blacked out.

I saw this in the theatre and right before the movie actually started I joked about the main antagonist being Tattoo and he just snapped one day and started killing people who come to live out their fantasies but he twists the fantasies into their worst nightmare and makes them beg for death so that, in a very sick and twisted way, he's still helping them fulfill their fantasies. Holy fuck, that is the movie I *wish* I saw!

The timing of this is PERFECT 'cos I just watched this movie over the weekend! Honestly I think the biggest sin of all was not utilising Maggie Q's incredibly enriched action role background into this, especially with how heavy it is towards the 2nd half of the film.

I watched the original pilot many years ago, and it was a lot scarier than this, or the TV show. I suppose it was more suspense than horror, but it wasn't as bland as the TV show was. Basically it was a psychological thriller that held a mirror up to the guests, making them realize what they needed as opposed to what they wanted.
Found an old quote from Montalban. He saw his character as a fallen angel stuck in Purgatory, which was the island. This is a backstory created by Montalban, but guides how he plated the role.
The TV show was careful to O'Rourke's nature ambiguous. Satan made an occasional appearance (played by Roddy McDowall) which implied that O'Rourke was some sort of angel.
Jeremy was pretty much spot on with this one. The script couldn't make up it's mind, some scenes revealed too much, and others nothing at all. Somethings needed to remain a mystery to make the story work. They also tried to shoehorn too much into the movie. One reviewer had a good suggestion: the movie should have been produced as a streaming miniseries instead.

As someone who grew up watching the original tv series, your feelings of "WTF is going on!?" "WTF are the rules!?" "Is Roarke in control or completely helpless!?" makes it the most accurate adaption of the show possible. Especially after season two.

no it isn't, that's why the dialogue is so cringy. teenagers are incredibly cringy and the way they talk is borderline. movies for teens are made for average kids, not weebs and kids who sit on the internet all day not actually socializing. If you had actually been around normal majority type teenage kids you'd see they do act the way movies portray them, but somehow even worse than that.

Honestly, this movie was beneath all of the actors involved. The performances don't seem half-bad if you disregard how little sense what they're saying makes.

Actually, for the most part they are in control of their own fantasies, but the fantasies are tainted because of Melanie. In the people's fantasies they don't specify anything to prevent them from falling prey to anything. Melanie's fantasy was to allow each of the people she holds responsible to have their own fantasy that will go south while having a cover fantasy of getting to torture her bully. Brax and JD always hang together and would have the same fantasy, there was no need to give each one a fantasy and Sloane having a fantasy wouldn't allow her to be in the torture chamber to start with.
I mean I will agree it's super complicated and could be done better.

So here is how I saw it:
I honestly like that all the fantasies meshed together. It kinda to me made the reveal it was someone else fantasy make sense. Now I don't know why the bully girl was actually kidnapped and brought there while everyone else had people that were magically appearing. Maybe it's because it was her fantasy that the people had to be actually there and the rest just got fake magic goo people in their fantasy. I think she didn't have an actual fantasy in that it wasn't anything specific like the others. Maybe her fantasy was to see them tortured from their fantasy but didn't anticipate they could die within them. Which is why she saved the bully. She still needed to reveal that a guy did want her i.e her worth. Also makes sense her recording it to have a memento to watch over and over.
I think the deal with Rourke and the island is exactly what she said. He's the Genie and the island is his lamp. In other words, he might be the one granting it but the island is the magic that makes it possible. He has to obey the magic's rules (like Genies grant 3 wishes). Once people are on the island they become guests so he can choose to grant fantasy or not. In the end, he chose to grant their fantasies to help them out. As far as the wife dying over and over I think that's his punishment. Maybe early on he didn't grant fantasies and they do that to keep him compliant. Why kill her daily? Maybe at a certain point, he tried instead just not bringing anyone to the island. Would explain why he's just so beaten down. That Tatoo thing just made me say really. He has to stay on the island for the fantasy to stay in effect.
Lord the Maggie Q thing was so contrived. My eyes rolled so hard because I knew granting her another fantasy was just so much plot convenience it hurt.
