These are some beautiful animals regardless o they are great pets or not, they look so happy and relaxed, I never thought of them as pets before watching this video
Judging by those traits... it doesn't sound like they should be a pet. They don't even really like being around people. And they are nocturnal which sounds like you are breaking their rest time to try to bond with it. I'm grateful for this video because I thought it would be cool to get my sons a hedgehog to care for but after seeing this video now I know its not the best choice for my kiddos. Thank you for the information!
Hamsters are nocturnal as well, most people are unaware of that. Just bond in the evening before bedtime, depending on the age of the children they might wake up for the day before the kids head to bed, that's how we managed. My son got to play with his hamster before bed and then I would usually play a little bit more after my son was asleep.
An ouch mouse is a high maintenance pet that can have excessive medical bills. Would never recommend for a child unless the parent accepts they have to clean the hedgehog's "Sh1t n' Spin" everyday. They must have an exercise wheel. They're used to running and pooing & their stuff being left behind, not it caking up in the wheel making poop boots for their feet that require a foot bath. Def not for kids that are hyper as these guys take patience, and oft stillness to get them to bond with you. These guys can live a good many years, that's a long regret, almost as bad as kids. 😜 They can be litter box trained, unless it's a really inbred one. If you're squeamish, their anointing themselves could gross one out.
That’s some actually good information to know. I have to agree that hedgehogs don’t belong as pets, but having said that, there a ton of animals that shouldn’t be pets and yet it’s common that they are. Parrots? ✅ They don’t live here natively. I love these birds, but how did they come to be companions when they live forever away? Snakes?✅omg don’t get me wrong I would love to have a snek 😂 But some of the species that get big enough to eat you? Leave them in the wild, for goodness sakes. I could go on. So hedgehogs are adorable, but if you don’t have the time and have kids? Leave them alone. Nothing worse than people buying a pet, and not doing enough homework and then dumping them!
They are domesticated hedgehogs, they wouldn’t survive in the wild, tho. These are inbred to be pets. Wild hedgehogs are different. It’s the same you saying don’t buy a dog let them be free.
@@danielletravassosszabo4948 No...actually it is not the same thing. Dogs were domesticated over a 1000 years ago. Hedgehogs were not. They are also of a different intelligence. We...meaning humans, feel the need to ruin and exploit nature at every turn. You DO NOT need a pet hedgehog.
Hi! I’m looking into getting a hedgehog for myself and I have a couple of questions that I was hoping you could answer (if not I completely understand). How often do they get sick? What’s the likelihood of there eyes popping out? (I know this question is weird so sorry about that) Thank you for your time and I really appreciate it 😊
YOu did a disservice to hedgehogs by just mentioning they are illegal and not why. Like are they being taken from the wild for the trade and therefore threatened with extinction? Would they turn into a destructive invasive species if you decided you should let them go into the wild? Etc. They are not domestic.
LOL. They are domestic. African Pygmy Hedgehogs are domesticated. You’ll never find one in the wild. They were created in a lab and depend on human aide to live and could never live on their own in the wild. The hedgehogs you see in the wild are a completely other breed.
I may be alone here in my opinion, but I think wild animals are WILD animals. Human selfishness like "Oh so cute, I must own one" or worse, "I must kill one and put it on my wall to show my manhood" is a part of the disease that is killing our planet. Leave these poor creatures alone to live their lives naturally. There is no need to make them pets. Some may have been rescued and cannot be released in the wild as they couldn't survive. But an industry that captures, breeds and sells wild animals is toxic. This is the Tiger King gone tiny hedgehog. Get a cat or a dog. They are domesticated! Ripping a wild animal from its natural life doesn't make you special. It makes you selfish and wrong.
Please educate yourself. African-Pygmy Hedgehogs are domesticated hedgehogs. They are not the same breed as what you’ll find in the wild. African-Pygmy hedgehogs depend on human aid to survive and will not survive in the wild.
What the hell ... How about just not getting animals that throughout time didn't establish themself to be particularly suited as human "" pets "" ?!? 🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦
Immediately gonna dislike just for the simple sake of clickbait title super misleading idiots who think "yes, this is all i need to know before i buy, ill learn as i go!"
@@chantalsutton9731 oh yeah. Hedgehogs are so much more complicated than this is telling you, plus it had almost nothing to say about hedgehog care. The title is "everything you need to know [before you get one]" this is like barely scratching the surface. Clickbait. Idiots wanting a hedgehog see these videos and go "well you already have one so you must know, im going to go out and get one right now. Ill learn as i go". My friend had one! Her name was Meatball 🤣🤣🤩
I love the hedgehog. It’s so cute
Appreciate the education. But they belong in their natural habitat. If you wants now they a cat or a dog.

Dogs and cats are extremely invasive and they’re still legal so I don’t think that’s it

That should be legal becouse they do a lot of good stuff in the gardens like eating snails that destroy plants …
