I just saw that ea is still going to be the exclusive nfl game now until 2026. It’s because idiots just keep buying the same game year after year. You have to make a statement and refuse to buy a madden game until they change. Stop rewarding with garbage.
The old Madden developers also loved football, and that showed just as clearly. As great as 2K5 was, there were many things that Madden 05 did better. That actually makes it worse, because I remember how great EA could be back when they actually cared.

Sorry, but those older Maddens around that generation of 2k5 were fun to play, controls felt crisp and solid. Scouting was fun because you did it by running your potential draftee through mini drills so you could get a feel for how he'd actually play on the field. What it didn't have was the glitzy and yes, good presentation of the Chris Berman half time highlights, etc. I thought drafting was a joke. Every player ran like they had a run in with Vlad the Impaler and he left something behind when the meeting was over. When players in 2k5 raise their arms up to cheer they all have double jointed elbows and they bend backwards a considerable amount. I thought franchise was okay, but I really hated how they handled the draft. I felt like I could never get the quality information I needed on any player to make an informed decision. I would have a guy with great combine numbers, great scouting report, I would draft him and he'd be like a 55 or 60 OVR. And this happened almost all the time. In this generation Madden's create a- feature was way more robust than 2k5's. In Madden you had many more options for names, could actually choose your own colors, and make your own stadium, place it anywhere you wanted and call it whatever you want. Not so on 2k5. Every logo had a color scheme attached to it that you couldn't edit, the stadiums were pre made and already had logos and naming on the field you couldn't change...so basically unless you wanted it to look real stupid, you would call your team the given name for the stadium.
I fucking hate that they do that. It breaks total immersion just like when they say "hey it's a video game pile on the points" or such things. It's really fucking angering to hear them to say that just because I score 50 in a game so they break immersion.

I had both Madden 05 and 2k5. The only thing Madden has over 2k5 was hit stick, but the tackling animations for 2K5 were better in general, and getting a good hard hit in 2K5 felt earned and more satisfying

Yes, and during the 2025 Superbowl, they still tell me that Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the "last pick of the first round in April." And at the END OF EVERY GAME where I'm winning, Charles Davis lets me know that teams actually practice the late game situations where the defense is going to have extra men in the box.

We all know that they didn’t have internet like they do now. That being said micro transactions wasn’t a thing they had to focus on. So that being said they had to really put effort to make money like a true hustler. So they had to make a true game. So they knew that they had to put out a complete game. That wasn’t fill with bugs and micro transactions. There was no patches or updates. What you had is what you paid for. And that was a good game
This is why I miss that era of video games. The internet in my opinion has hurt the gaming industry. No online meant no buggy games to be patches later and no microtransactions.
I miss the era of games before microtransactions. Developers released finished or mostly finished games that had little to no glitches with a one-time payment. Now all games are partially complete with tons of glitches that need patch after patch. And of course, the rest of the game is stored in DLC packs, some not even available until later on in the future.

I just finish up 3 games on my PS2. Damn I still get stopped. From create player / teams to just crib, training of team(🤷🏾♂️ still wish could maximize) , feel personal connection.
The guys who developed for 2K were Football/Sports fans. I remember reading an article and I don't know if it was in a GameInformer or another magazine; But it was about All Pro Football and the lead developer said one of his guys if it was up to him would create a game so realistic it would almost be unplayable. Those guys loved their craft. Meanwhile I remember reading an article about Madden and the interviewer asked the lead developer who his favorite team was...Dude said "well I don't really watch sports much, only when it's the Superbowl or championship game in other sports". And there you have it.
The more I watch/play old Maddens, NFL 2K & NFL Fever on Xbox I just SMFH at what Madden is on the new console generation. Damn shame how bad football games are after the Glory Days of competition.
I remember playing 2k5 for the first time after years of Madden and just how real it felt. The pocket forming around the QB, the routes and throws felt real were just things that I never experienced in Madden.
NFL2K5 was that game I played from 7 pm to 1am and woke up at 5 am to play to 6 am before going to work. I know you're fighting for us Ryan. VERY Much appreciate. Can't wait for the 2k NFL game next year.
Wish they can do a nfl 2k5 remastered heck they can even leave it with the roster it came out with in 2004 . It will just feel like a game of Mut without having to open packs ! Heck even have the servers open to play online . That would be EPIC!!
Been playing a couple months niw and im loving the frachise mode. Weekly reports, accurate challenges(in my opinion), and much more. 2k5 was going places for sure.
In 2k5 when players get hurt you can hear them crying/ in pain lol and the trainers come out and talk and you can hear them say things. The crowd looks more alive, such more more immersion and with PS2 graphics. I would argue 2k5 is the best example of simulation football we were ever presented. One day when we finally get a good simulation football game again, 2k5 will be the standard bearer on which it is judged.

You hit the nail on the head with the halftime show. I've recently gone back to playing NBA 2K12 and I'll actually sit through the halftime shows in nearly every MyCareer game I play because they ACTUALLY matter. There's commentary with actual highlights, lowlights, top performers, box score stats for both teams and tell you which games are coming up next on the national schedule. As opposed to 2K games now that just show your player's stats and your badge progress on a static screen void of any entertainment value.
2k actually taught me stuff about football. I didn’t know 3 and 5 step drops, moving up in the pocket, etc. Madden was just ‘can u throw through some rings?’

This might be asking to much, but I would like to see a full overview of every Madden game you feel deserves recognition. I'm talking the best of the best, 02-2012 respectively. How do they stack up, which really stands out. With emphasis on player AI and pattern formations, etc. These are the Maddens I feel have the potential to be replayed and rated amongst themselves. You may just pick one or two, but it's these years that deserve the most attention in my opinion.

Hey I'm going to tell you that I always watch the halftime shows. When I was playing franchise mode that's all I did was watch the halftime shows.
And highlights through the league for the week. You could see who was on fire in the highlights vs stats only... it was great
Ohhh and the draft previews were awesome. Plus you could watch sportscenter during the week

r1d166y the day that EA acquired the exclusive rights contract agreement with the NFL was the day that NFL football video games died. I actually kinda resent the NFL for even agreeing to sell the rights to EA. Now all we get is a 🚮 “simulation” NFL football game annually & since they don’t have to worry about competition they have just gone into cruise control knowing that it’s Madden or nothing

This game was built on top of a foundation from the Dreamcast which came out in Japan late 1998.
It’s a damn show. Madden still has not come close even after 15 years.

I can’t be the only one who never skipped the Chris Berman’s halftime show when playing 2K5. I love the immersion that 2K5 had, it’s sad that it’s most likely that we will never get that kind of immersion ever again

I just finish up 3 games on my PS2. Damn I still get stopped. From create player / teams to just crib, training of team(🤷🏾♂️ still wish could maximize) , feel personal connection.
The guys who developed for 2K were Football/Sports fans. I remember reading an article and I don't know if it was in a GameInformer or another magazine; But it was about All Pro Football and the lead developer said one of his guys if it was up to him would create a game so realistic it would almost be unplayable. Those guys loved their craft. Meanwhile I remember reading an article about Madden and the interviewer asked the lead developer who his favorite team was...Dude said "well I don't really watch sports much, only when it's the Superbowl or championship game in other sports". And there you have it.
The more I watch/play old Maddens, NFL 2K & NFL Fever on Xbox I just SMFH at what Madden is on the new console generation. Damn shame how bad football games are after the Glory Days of competition.

I remember playing 2k5 for the first time after years of Madden and just how real it felt. The pocket forming around the QB, the routes and throws felt real were just things that I never experienced in Madden.
Much, much better. I've been playing it for the past 3 weeks on PC and it's simply amazing.

NFL2K5 was that game I played from 7 pm to 1am and woke up at 5 am to play to 6 am before going to work.

Wish they can do a nfl 2k5 remastered heck they can even leave it with the roster it came out with in 2004 . It will just feel like a game of Mut without having to open packs ! Heck even have the servers open to play online . That would be EPIC!!
And Berman's commentary was always on point and pretty close to seamless. It's still impressive to this day.

nfl 2k4/5 are the last NFL games i truly invested myself in, and this shows why.
Been playing a couple months niw and im loving the frachise mode. Weekly reports, accurate challenges(in my opinion), and much more. 2k5 was going places for sure.
In 2k5 when players get hurt you can hear them crying/ in pain lol and the trainers come out and talk and you can hear them say things. The crowd looks more alive, such more more immersion and with PS2 graphics. I would argue 2k5 is the best example of simulation football we were ever presented. One day when we finally get a good simulation football game again, 2k5 will be the standard bearer on which it is judged.

I loved 2k football and need it back in my life #GoodOlDays...all the 2k games was good minus the baseball(pitching was good everything else was baaad) even the hockey was better then NHL..all 2k sports games had/have that attention to detail..I was playing all them since the dreamcast days(another system ahead of its time..was able to do substations from the VMU card and play mini games on the card(if you brought one) from the controller..under appreciated system in my opinion

You hit the nail on the head with the halftime show. I've recently gone back to playing NBA 2K12 and I'll actually sit through the halftime shows in nearly every MyCareer game I play because they ACTUALLY matter. There's commentary with actual highlights, lowlights, top performers, box score stats for both teams and tell you which games are coming up next on the national schedule. As opposed to 2K games now that just show your player's stats and your badge progress on a static screen void of any entertainment value.
Everything from play, halftime show, the end week show with Chris Berman, literally everything is better!

This might be asking to much, but I would like to see a full overview of every Madden game you feel deserves recognition. I'm talking the best of the best, 02-2012 respectively. How do they stack up, which really stands out. With emphasis on player AI and pattern formations, etc. These are the Maddens I feel have the potential to be replayed and rated amongst themselves. You may just pick one or two, but it's these years that deserve the most attention in my opinion.
