Even then, the depth of the franchise mode is something no Madden game has replicated since the move to the PS3. That was 16 years ago now. Madden 05 was still a good game, even if there were better contemporaries. There has not been a Madden that could even manage to be better than its previous iteration in years. Also, naturally, it helps the realism of a broadcast when you actually use the ESPN license. It was still well-executed on 2K5's part, of course, but having that familiar aesthetic to work with is a huge asset.

Madden doesn't realize that we don't care about how realistic the blades of grass or player's tattoos look. We care about the experience. 2K5 was the most immersive experience ever. I mean literally at halftime they had generated clips from other games going on that week. You truly felt a part of the football world. We need this back
I remember the day I got NFL 2K5 for the Xbox... July 20th 2004, $19.99 at launch... We couldn't believe it back then and I can't believe that it's still being talked about and praised so much now. Also, it should be noted that Tecmo was in talks with Microsoft about releasing a new Tecmo Bowl for the Xbox weeks ahead of that fateful licensing crisis... 🙄
it is immersive. You feel like your watching a real game & not a video game. It has personality, in the game play & in the commentary. I've said it before the older games just had the ability to make you feel like you were "in the Game" or "at the Game", or part of the game, but these new titles are so sterile & bland. You feel like you have no control & are along for the ride.
2K should take a leaf out of the THPS book and release a game which uses the code base from their old games but with present day graphical capabilities.
I played a game of this a few nights back on my ps2. I hadn't played this game in like 10years or even turned on my ps2 in like 5 years. This game is still the best football game there is...period
This game will never get old. Its not perfect as you pointed out with some of the blocking and tackling but the momentum physics and movement always felt pretty good. There are very few complaints about this game. The defense feels like it knows what its doing most of the time and offenses were capable. If it was a good offense...it showed. If it was a bad defense....it showed. I could go on and on about this amazing game. Still the GOAT.
Man, Iupati is a name I haven't heard in quite some time. It's crazy Larry's still in the league doing his thing, and on the same team. He's a straight *LEGEND* for that.
The fact of the matter is EA knows fully how much 2K football was a dangerous product and if we have not seen presentation matched today it is because they want the public to forget about 2K football. Add to the fact having exclusive rights gives current management to go the lazy route.
If 2K took 2K5 and remastered it for next generation consoles and the PC, completely made up all the teams and players involved and did whatever changes needed where they wouldn't get sued by EA/NFL I would purchase it in a heartbeat.
These people obviously didn't hear Ryan say "it doesn't get it right all the time". So stop dismissing his argument by saying he's blinded by nostalgia and actually listen to his points.
People will skip over the details because they have always played Madden and have never had a reason to look at the halftime show and stuff like that. As a 2k5 player, I have to say that I never skipped over the halftime show because I loved how they did it.
I ran shit with the Eagles in this game.. loved it so much. Owens, McNabb, Dawkins, Wesbrook, LITO "SHUFFLE" SHEPPARD. The nostalgia is real. My Crib, VIP, first-person mode!? the extras alone were enough to keep me busy outside of franchise mode.
So refreshing to go back and play these games now after years of mediocre football releases. I'm still amazed at the plays I see in 2K5 and APF 2K8. EA was great once, I play NCAA 06, 11, and 14 and love these titles. I have found new respect for NCAA 11, amazing feeling football experience. NFL though, 2K5 was amazing as well as 2K8. Thanks for the video!
It's funny how people choose to call out Moody for putting a damn good video out, about why Madden is bad, and then choose to not recognize why he's doing it, but choose to bring up smaller things in the comments such as *"He's worrying about a coin toss"* well the coin toss is apart of football, and the #1 Football game on the market can't even add it in, and oh *I love seeing the same animation 50 times in one game* honestly, just go buy a PS3 and buy Madden 08 if you want to have some real fun kiddos.
The whole thing behind taking things out like that beginning video package/commentary up to the coin toss was to focus on the single players benefit of "getting right to the game". But the thing about doing that is, it becomes less enjoyable for other people to watch. But maybe that's just me, growing up in a house where we had to share the gaming tv.
2k5 and GTA 3 were my first two PS2 games. I just tried to play All pro on the X box 1. Not compatible. So I got out my red ring 360 that's been sitting for 10 years and it worked. These games are old but are still miles ahead of Madden.
Id love to see a breakdown of madden 05. I need to know if EA is even capable of making something of this quality. I remember playing the game but I was much too young to appreciate good football.
I remember doing a project in 7th grade , It was about how TO was a Crybaby and I couldn’t get a good picture of him so I taped my 2k5 cover on it. 🤣 Those we’re the days… 😔

I can remember as a little kid watching my dad and cousin duke it out in this for hours and I would actually be pretty entertain and couldn’t wait till they were done so I can hop on.The game was just different man compared to today’s sports games
if i can find a copy of that game, this was my favorite game ever, i cant beleive 15 years later im watching a youtube video about it, they stopped making 2ks after 2k5. if i had known i would of kept it in a safer place.
What I don't like about any football game is that in real life the defensive backs tackle low. For the most part if a 6'0 193Ibs corner has a 6'4 248lbs TE running towards him 7.5 times outta 10 he is going for a lower body tackle. In these video games you just have corners and safeties going head up on guys and that is just not realistic.
The fact that NFL2k5 16 friggin years old and STILL a viable comparison to Madden 21 says it ALL!! Hopefully (fingers crossed and prayer hands formed), Visual Concepts is be behind one of the forthcoming 2k football titles.
The fact that 2K even had the announcer say the players names even though they really didn't know who they were is fantastic.
Just imagine what they could do with modern hardware if they actually tried!
The 2K announcers sounded as if they were actually calling a game.
"POLA-MALOO"

I remember the day I got NFL 2K5 for the Xbox... July 20th 2004, $19.99 at launch... We couldn't believe it back then and I can't believe that it's still being talked about and praised so much now. Also, it should be noted that Tecmo was in talks with Microsoft about releasing a new Tecmo Bowl for the Xbox weeks ahead of that fateful licensing crisis... 🙄
The devil is always in the details and the Line play alone is still light years better than madden... still!
NFL 2K5 is still amazing
The nostalgia 😌 2k made you want to actually play the game with the small stuff not just gameplay
Last time I was this early Clint was a backup
Does Clint count as an NFL player?
Joel Moody yes but Actually no
it is immersive.
I’ve never played the game but from what I’ve seen this looks kinda fun
It’s the best football game in 2020 and it was made 16 years ago
Ryan Fogel that’s tough
It was the shit
loudpack It still is and will continue because we already know EA isn’t gonna improve Madden to even coming close to NFL2K5.
Get a ps2 and play it! It was a really good game back in ‘04. God I feel old!
I remember playing NCAA 2k back in the day and beastin with Leftwich lol
2K should take a leaf out of the THPS book and release a game which uses the code base from their old games but with present day graphical capabilities.
Hard to fathom how good this game would be by now, thanks NFL ):
What every football game hopes to be when it grows up
I played a game of this a few nights back on my ps2. I hadn't played this game in like 10years or even turned on my ps2 in like 5 years. This game is still the best football game there is...period
NFL Fever series and 2k5 were best football games ever
Don’t forget NCAA 14. Better career mode than Madden and 2K career modes combined.
This game is the only NFL game I've ever enjoyed playing for weeks upon weeks back then.
Nostalgia 100%
NFL2K5 G. O. A. T.
It's the details that make the story, it's the details that make the theme more immersive.
This why I love nfl 2k5 the plays and the announcers also the cheerleaders on halftime
Once this came out and EA became sole rights holders to make football. I knew it was over for the series.
I like The care 2k puts in the NBA pre game show. I never skip those.
Man, Iupati is a name I haven't heard in quite some time. It's crazy Larry's still in the league doing his thing, and on the same team. He's a straight *LEGEND* for that.
Low key 2k4 was special too.
Facts 💯💯💯
10:25 yessss they should, they should make the game more realistic!
Glad I still have this game. The fact we are still talking about 2K5 15 years later says a lot. Even APF 2k8 is a classic
An amazing game indeed !
I miss this game so much!
Sirk Skywalker too bad they didn’t make a nfl 2k6 that probably would of had been in PC and have mods?
Wish I could still play this game I don't have my copy anymore this game was so much fun
Best football game ever made 👏👏👏I like game breaker too and nfl game day nfl fever was cool too. Keep up good work RYAN👏👏👏
Not to criticize, but is Arrowhead Stadium really in the middle of nowhere? 🤔
Some of the stadiums they were unable to license. Its why Chicago plays in Chicago Field not Soldier Field
@@briankasnick4403 Oh, okay. That makes sense.
I got the 2 best football games period. Madden 08 and nfl 2k5 on the OG XBOX
2k5 and GTA 3 were my first two PS2 games. I just tried to play All pro on the X box 1. Not compatible. So I got out my red ring 360 that's been sitting for 10 years and it worked. These games are old but are still miles ahead of Madden.
Can u help me? The loading screen stops when it says buckling chinstrap. Help me plz
For Madden 21?
Id love to see a breakdown of madden 05. I need to know if EA is even capable of making something of this quality. I remember playing the game but I was much too young to appreciate good football.
I use to keep track of how many coin tosses i won in a row (or in my case mainly how many I lost) lol
Man I miss 2k5 football. Anybody else remember when you could check on your online league online?
I can play this in a loop 24/7.
I Never Understood Why They Removed The Coin Toss, It Wasnt Bothering Anyone Lol
I remember doing a project in 7th grade , It was about how TO was a Crybaby and I couldn’t get a good picture of him so I taped my 2k5 cover on it. 🤣 Those we’re the days… 😔
I still play this game every year with roster updates in my OG Xbox!! I have this year's and it's a brand new game again! Love this game.i stopped playing Madden since the first Nfl2k was released on Sega Dreamcast.i was floored and excited when I saw a commercial on it...the smooth gameplay and realism.Tbis game is so fun to play with and it has a basic controller action functions.u don't need to memorize all the bullshit on Madden on how to do actions on the controller.
I can remember as a little kid watching my dad and cousin duke it out in this for hours and I would actually be pretty entertain and couldn’t wait till they were done so I can hop on.The game was just different man compared to today’s sports games
How did 2k5 have Patrick Pete
if i can find a copy of that game, this was my favorite game ever, i cant beleive 15 years later im watching a youtube video about it, they stopped making 2ks after 2k5. if i had known i would of kept it in a safer place.
What I don't like about any football game is that in real life the defensive backs tackle low. For the most part if a 6'0 193Ibs corner has a 6'4 248lbs TE running towards him 7.5 times outta 10 he is going for a lower body tackle. In these video games you just have corners and safeties going head up on guys and that is just not realistic.
the best thing about this game is u could change the camera into the helmet and see and become the player
i remember this being the only game where the announcer would actually say my last name while playing as a created player.
The fact that NFL2k5 16 friggin years old and STILL a viable comparison to Madden 21 says it ALL!! Hopefully (fingers crossed and prayer hands formed), Visual Concepts is be behind one of the forthcoming 2k football titles.
