    Hi Neighbor! I just happened upon your channel while researching overlanding rigs. I am in the Scenic City as well and it is nice to see local content. I am liking the camper and considering one myself at some point. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to following your build and adventures!

      Hey Michael! Glad you found us! A bunch of new stuff should be dropping soon. Switched jobs and it really slowed down my YT content, but should be ramping back home soon.
      If you haven’t yet, check out the Chattanooga Offroad Monthly Meetup on FB. Great group, and some awesome rigs that meet up each month.

      @@ScenicCityAdventures Thanks. I just ordered a Switchback for my F150, and I like the LED lightstrip, too. Sometimes you need to get stuff in and out of truck, like for meals, but don't want to invite the bugs in. Othertimes, just want to gel or fix stuff in the truck, and need the bright light. Genius solution.

    I think you meant 1000 watt hour for the GZ. 1045Wh actually. Very nice work on the benchs.

      Ya! That’s the one. Now I use the 1500x. It’s around 1516 Watt Hours.

      Thank You, You are too kind! I’ve got a lot to learn still. My father has a lot of experience building things like this, which is why you see me holding the camera and him explaining things in the build video. He’s owned a couple of shops over the years. My wife and I are purchasing our first home with a garage this month, so hopefully more stuff like this to come soon.

    After 6 months how has the PVC foam board held up? Would you use it again?

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  2 года назад +2

      Great question! It’s been great. No warping, no failures in the glued joints, no blown out screws. It can be scuffed without too much effort, so it’s not perfect, but it’s still my favorite material we’ve tried so far.

    I like the LED lighting strips and controller you’ve implemented. I just picked up a V2 GFC and am looking for how to build it out.
    The lighting controller says it’s 4-channel, so if you got another lighting strip for the upstairs could you control them separately from the same remote?
    I’m also curious what you did with the lighting strip in the corners of the camper. Is the strip cut and wired together for each side?
    Thanks!

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  3 года назад +2

      Congrats on the new camper! So the four channels it’s referring to our red green blue and white. The LED strip has marked areas that you can cut through it and re-solder with wires. For each corner a cut the LED strip where I needed, extended it out using a roll of five wire LED specific wire, then soldered it back together. You could do the same to get the wire upstairs.
      You could also use premade connectors that are solderless like the ones here:
      www.amazon.com/dp/B07KK9TX99?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
      I did not have great luck with the connectors but I used the wire and just soldered it myself.

    Having the discontinued Goal Zero 1000 myself, I wonder if you have left enough venting as the unit does produce alot of heat both in the inverter mode but also while charging. I often have to lift the top lid to keep the charge brick from over heating.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  2 года назад

      Good questions! So it’s not often that I run it in inverter mode, unless I’m charging camera barriers. I’ve found that those don’t pull enough power to cause it to heat up. I also charge it with a Victron 12-24v dc to dc charger not the charger brick. It charges faster, and doesn’t heat up the GZ.

    These look great! I’m interested in building something similar. How did you attach the cabinets and keep them from sliding around in the truck bed?

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  Год назад

      Thanks! I actually just use the truck bed rails to attach everything so it would be easy to remove if I need to.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  3 года назад

      Yep, I didn’t like it taking up space in the bed of the truck. Also on long road trips it’s nice to be able to get to our snacks from the cab and the cab is typically going to be a little bit cool see than the bed of the truck while we travel, so that saves power.

    How do you anchor your boxes so they don’t shift on dirt roads?

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  2 года назад

      Good question. They are anchored to the rail system on the bed sides. A couple of L-shaped brackets and T nuts to go inside the track.

    How much clearance do you have from vent to tailgate?

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Not nearly enough. That’s why I want to recess it in to give me an extra quarter inch or so. I’ve also added a magnetic screen door on the back that takes up some of that space so I may end up trimming the box and scooting the entire thing back another quarter inch.

      When I made my solar genny I used a PC temp controlled case fan. A $10 Govee BT temp monitor is a good tool to log data temps

    • @ScenicCityAdventures
      @ScenicCityAdventures  3 года назад +1

      That’s a great plan! We actually have a Govee BT temp sensor in there already. I rarely run the inverter and the temps have been so far. But never hurts to get some extra ventilation.

    • @ScenicCityAdventures

      Actually on our last trip to Montana we were able to swing by a KOA so we would have showers and places for all three pickups that went with us. They allowed us to put all three in an RV spot and didn’t give us any trouble.
