Katie I can't tell you how impressed I am with how quickly you have picked this up and the complex projects you seem to pick up so easily! You are smashing it girl! Brilliant!
Your sweater is SO beautiful!! I’m knitting my own Porcelain Sweater while watching this - currently working on color work chart B on the body - and this just makes me even more excited!
what an amazing accomplishment in your knitting journey!! you did an AMAZING job, it’s truly beautiful 🩵 I’m so excited to take on this project this year.
So impressed at your tension, with this being your first colour work sweater! Also maybe you’d like ladderback jacquard as a float catching technique to preserve stretch in the colour work
I'm in awe! I think you were a knitter in a past life because of how far you have come in such a short time! Super impressive and I look forward to seeing your next projects! Bravo Katie!!
Gorgeous jumper. Great job. I knit colour work in two hands english style. It takes practice but now I find it quite easy and natural. Just wrap the yarn around your fingers.
I’m only a few minutes into the video and am excited to watch the rest! Just want to give a recommendation of using one of those yarn holders that are worn on your finger when doing colorwork. They are amazing for keeping the yarn threads untangled and keeping an even tension. (ETA: they are called norwegian knitting thimble)
Also, regarding magic loop and ladders, I’ve struggled with this as well no matter how much I tighten it, but just 2 days ago I found that having a purl stitch at the end of the needle and a knit stitch at the beginning in combination with tightening the first couple of stitches helps avoid ladders.
Thanks a lot for this episode. I was scared if starting this sweater byt thanks ti your tips I get started this year, as soon as I'm finished with my "Matchday sweater" .❤
Beautyful work, considering it is your first. Wow, so far I didn't dare to start one. Magic loop will come out way better if You work on smaller needles with a long cable and pull the yarn on the last stich of the finished round. Just like with knitting socks. Congrats!!!!!
Hello! I made a medium as I wanted it oversized like in the pattern pictures. I tried to maintain a not too tight gauge when doing the colourwork so I don’t think it detracted from the size
Hi Katie! Pleased to have found your video this morning 😊 I began knitting a bit before you and now starting more colourwork projects. You’ve done such a good job!! The colorwork bible book by Jesie Ostermiller is a great resource ❤
Magic loop trick! ✨ Just make sure you tighten the first and second stitches after flipping into work - those bars come from the stitches pulling lose at the ends… weird, and it happens to everyone!!! Also, I love your vlog sm!! No pics of me on my new vlog yet - but I’m a gal, so as not to be creepy - you’re SO gorgeous!!!! Happy knitting, and I just subscribed 🙃
Congratulations! It turned out so beautifully. I like the tip of using markers to denote beginning and end of repeats. I always have my charts on my iPad and I write out notations below the chart for each round (ie: 5B 3W/ 2B 1W/ 5B 3W etc. etc.) because I can’t “read” the charts …. I always end up having to stop and count anyhow so I just jot it down) and then I can easily make notations as I go if I have to stop mid row or some such. But visual reminders on the needles would keep me from getting hypnotized by a repeat and carrying on long past when I aught to have stopped lol. So much tinking ….. There is a great channel here called Nimble Needles. He has a tutorial somewhere about doing magic loop a little differently to help prevent laddering. You pull the cord through at random points instead of always having the stitches lined up evenly .. it’s hard to explain but I think you can find it easily enough. It’s the method I use (except for things like sock toes or glove fingers) and I never have ladder issues. I love the shorter needles. I use them all the time (also makes magic loop so much easier). I find them more comfortable to hold and I seem to knit a lot faster with them. I also like how much easier it makes switching out the needles on a cable when and if needed. I have wood ones and they are so light …. I don’t get any cramping or soreness even after seriously intense knitting marathons. But I also knit continental (Norwegian for ribbing) which I find so much easier for colourwork as well. It’s easy to hold both strands in one hand (you just flip the direction of the second colour over your finger and it keeps them separated. It also makes catching floats a breeze.) since you are picking the yarn instead of throwing it. It took me a bit to catch onto the rhythm of it as well, but IMO it’s well worth the learning curve in the end. Cables are so much fun. They get really addictive. Especially if you learn how to do them without using a cable needle. I learned how to increase and decrease ribbing and some cables and I was like a mad woman unleashed 😂.
Thank you so much for this amazing comment - the tip for remembering colourwork is great and I think would make it easier for me too! Will check out that magic loop video too!!
There is also a method where you pull the excess cord through at random intervals instead of keeping the stitches lined up in equal numbers across both needles/lengths of the cord. That way the tension is distributed more evenly across all the stitches and there is no laddering. It’s the method I’ve used for years now and it works like a charm. It’s not possible to do if you’re doing something like the toe of a sock or the fingers on a glove, but for anything with more stitches, it works great.
Hey there! I love your sweater. It's turning out so great. One question if you have time. I recently cast on my version. Chart A is causing me some confusion. The pattern says to start and end at the arrows, but there is a repeat in the middle. I'm not sure how to deal with this. Do you have any tips? Thank you in advance. And great work on your sweater!
I hope this helps as I’m not the best at explaining. Start at one arrow, work up until the repeat, and repeat it until you get to the last 4 stitches, then do the 4 stitches until the final arrow!! Does this help!
Repeat the 10 repeat stitches - I hope that helps! I did my first 5 stitches then added stitch markers every 10 stitches to mark the repeat, and then the final 4 at the end
I don’t think so, just less of a halo and less soft? There are some projects on ravelry that haven’t used the mohair for this and it just looks a bit less rustic
I don’t know how the sleeve color chart and stitch count is for the medium, but for the size small I’m having a hard time with not only the instruction - but the stitch count and chart doesn’t match? I’ve been all over the internet trying to get some insight. Did you have any problems? The comments that I relate to on Raverly haven’t been answered yet
I’ve seen some people confused by this! My advice is: I did a medium and I imagine you’re doing a xs/s which is the same number of sleeve stitches as my medium So 84 sleeve stitches to start with - but it’s easy to not see the first stitch you need to include at the beginning of the chart. I’ve crossed out the other sizes in the chart so I didn’t get confused. So with that first stitch plus the others in the chart, that equals 84! I hope this helps!! I would recommend going to the projects on ravelry and searching ‘sleeve decrease’ as there are some projects that really help explain it!
Katie I can't tell you how impressed I am with how quickly you have picked this up and the complex projects you seem to pick up so easily! You are smashing it girl! Brilliant!
This means everything thanks so much!!
This sweater has been living rent free in my head for months and you did such a beautiful job! I feel like now I have to cast it on in the new year.
That sweater is absolutely stunning!!
You should be so, so proud of yourself!
You're such a natural knitter.
Your sweater is SO beautiful!! I’m knitting my own Porcelain Sweater while watching this - currently working on color work chart B on the body - and this just makes me even more excited!
Well done Katie. You’ve done so well. Thanks to you I’ve started knitting and I’m loving it
Loving your vlogs , your vlogmas is giving me all the cosy feels xx
Ah this makes me so happy! They’ll resume with daily vlogs shortly

Thank you so much!! I will google this float technique

Beautiful work!
I am so impressed. Beautiful.
So beautiful! I am about to start knitting this sweater (I'm a little intimidated) but will be following along with your video
Yay I love this!
Amazing! You should definitely be proud of your accomplishment😊
Do i need to combine the yarn with mohair? Bc i already have the yarn but dont wanna spend more money 😂

@@katesnooks well, I am considering :) I may will at the end coz I love the resoults
Congrats on your beautiful sweater! What size did you choose? Did you find the colorwork made the sweater smaller than you expected?

Did you knit the jumper you’re wearing? If yes, what’s the pattern! I love it x
When you do the magic loop. tighted the first two stiches every time in the beginning of a loop

Hi Katie I'm learning to knit I'm finding it challenging 😂 that jumper is amazing! Did you purchase the pattern for it?thank you ❤
Ah it’s so fun isn’t it! Yes the pattern is linked in my description box
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Bravo!! 😍👍🏻
Wow 🤩 so impressive ❤ so proud of you 👏
Edit - you could actually wear this inside out .
Ahhhh thank you!

This helps a lot! Thank you so much for getting back to me.
Did you need all 8 balls of the alpaca? I just ordered 5 (also making a medium) and now I’m thinking I’d better order a few more.
I can’t quite remember so let me look at my stash and see how many I have left
Hi Katie, what size did you make? Sorry if I missed you saying it in the video!!
I made a medium as I wanted it oversized :)
Would it make much of a difference if I missed the mohair? 🤔
I don’t think so, just less of a halo and less soft? There are some projects on ravelry that haven’t used the mohair for this and it just looks a bit less rustic
How much blue yarn did you had left at the end?
@@myhappyspace4533 almost a whole ball of the Sandnes Garn and none left of the alpaca

Why no cc/subtitles? :(
Why no captions?
