    I finally learned how to make 1x1 rib look nicer recently!! because I also hate how it looks lol, but knitting through the back loop of every knit stitch gives you the really nice defined rib that you usually get on the backside of the work!

    The look on Cheyenne's face when she read the "wrap and turn" part was so nostalgic for me! I remember when I used to be terrified of doing wrap-and-turn short rows.

    As someone who has worked with Aloft before, you can absolutely wind it into a cake, but you can also just work with it straight out of the ball. You shouldn't need to worry about the yarn snapping unless it gets hung up on something and you try to really force it. But it is an absolute dream when made up into something.
    Congrats on your (almost done) sweater! Honestly you've got more patience than me cause I would have bound off the edges of the sleeves and called it good by that point.

    I've been knitting my first garment too. Working on the May Flowers vest by Drops (I'm going to just cover it with embroidered flowers!).
    I am adoring that so many young women are embracing traditional crafts and passing them on through oral and visual medium. It's so wonderful because this is exactly what our ancestors would have done, teaching one another these skills, sitting together making things for practicality and joy. These are skills reaching back for women throughout time, connecting the hands of so many wonderful people and beautiful objects.

    For joining yarn i like doing the knit double method! You knit 3 stitches with the old ball and the new one combined then drop the yarn tail for the old ball. its really clean and a lot easier/less messy and fiddly than other methods

    Great work Cheyenne! I love how self satisfied you are about it. It's so contagious. We all need to send a canoe squad to save you from sleeve island! Don't give up! One way to deal with sleeves is to knit both sleeves at the same time, but you need two sets of needles to do that. Just trade off every 10th row or so. One more thing. I love the way your kitties love you too! Such a sweet relationship between the three of you. Cheers! ❤

    I also tried to knit my first sweater this Winter so it was fun watching you going through the same pain of figuring things out ahahah! It turned out so pretty in the end! ❤️ just a quick tip for frogging multiple rows: instead of having to undo stitches one by one, you can use a spare needle and pick the right leg of the stitches of the row you want to stop unravelling. Then you can just frog everything and it will stop when it reaches that needle and the stitches will already be secure and untwisted. Hope that makes sense but there are a few videos explaining that better ahaha it's such a game changer ✨️

    I have knit dozens and dozens of sweaters and just finally did the Felix pullover in January. I am at 5:26 of your video (short rows!), and I just want to say that between the raglan yarn overs and the short rows, I was very confused for a bit and started over three times (I finally placed markers at the turn stitches, which helped). It is an overall easy sweater, but that beginning part is juggling a lot of different things and maybe not as easy for beginners as your LYS might make it sound. But I assume you got through it, as there are 33 minutes left to the video...looking forward to finding out if you enjoyed it!

    The only part of sleeve island that bothers me is picking up stitches. Otherwise I'm just excited because sleeves work up so much faster than the body - it's like the home stretch for me! (I also knit plus-sized so that may have an effect HA - the body is big rounds) Perhaps this perspective will help you on future sleeves?

    If you find 1x1 rib looks messy you could try 1x1 twisted rib, I think it looks neater! It’s a bit awkward to do but worth it! Also I find once you split for the sleeves, knit the sleeves first then go back and knit the body, can help avoid getting stuck on sleeve island 😅

  • @tahlay8382

    I have never seen a sweater knit that way before and I have knit quite a few. The way we always have knit is all the pieces - front, back, sleeves - separately and then picked up the stitches for the neck and sewn the side seams together afterwards. Seems easier to me that way as the way you are doing it seems so daunting where knitting one sleeve or the whole front or back separate from everything else is easy.

    • @cheyennebarton
      @cheyennebarton  6 месяцев назад

      honestly, I've really enjoyed the "seamless" from-the-top-down experience!! It may be a little trickier for shaping, but it's nice to be able to try on the sweater as I make, and not have to seam all the individual pieces together at the end :') Tho I definitely have some non-raglan patterns I wanna try heh

    So after 135 hrs I beat Persona 5 Royal (a video game for those who don’t know) just last night and this AM I said let’s do something different and turned on a video about knitting then almost fell out of my seat dying each time you choose another persons song for your background music haha 😂 I guess even when something over it’s never over haha! Great music choices though and I’m glad I’m not the only knitter who is a video game person too!

    I’m French and on May 2020, I begin to watch English videos on RUclips with subtitles and I found your channel. But yours videos are too long for me, and I don’t really understand, so I unsubscribe. Now, I can watch yours videos without subtitles and I am very happy because I love yours videos ❤

      Félicitations ! C’est pas facile à comprendre une deuxième langue, particulièrement quand le contenu est destiné aux natifs. Je suis américaine mais j’essaie d’améliorer mon français avec vidéos francophones -bref, je sympathise avec ta réussite. Bonne continuation !
