I'm from Albuquerque. We're generally a pretty poor state and always have been. I was working for a dealership selling cars when Netflix started to increase production spending here; our film industry was already pretty well established but we immediately started to notice an increase in show production employees coming to buy vehicles. I was proud to see that many of them were native New Mexicans and not previous production employees that came from other states. It really gave trade workers and young people alike a new career avenue to venture to.

I agree! This will definitely make Chappelle continue to come to use them in the future! It’s crazy how time have changed, Netflix is now where comedians do their specials instead of HBO and Comedy Central!
You're missing the point. Netflix will pay him, the show will re-air, and the incident will cause more people to watch the show, so netflix (and Dave, but that's besides the point) will come out ahead. And in the minds of those who went along with the boycott, it will be considered "stealing" to watch the show on any streaming service other than netflix.

I think it'd be pretty funny to pirate the whole thing and send Dave money directly if possible. Obviously that's not a perfect solution, other people worked on the show and they do deserve whatever cuts they get if they're even still getting any, but I'd still do it for a laugh I guess.
dave's one of the very top comedians in the country. it's pretty much him and bill burr at the very top. in saying that I'm not just going to blindly follow everything he says especially if he's not doing a comedic bit. he massively benefited from the Chappelle show. it made him the juggernaut he his today. if he can use his influence to sway public opinion and companies like Netflix than good for him but i don't have to agree with what he's doing. what about all the other people that have been and still are in 'unfair' contracts?

True. And I feel like the negative press and mass cancelations that resulted from the whole "Cuties" fiasco may have played a part in their decision; they *do* know how beloved Chapelle is and that doing the right thing for him in this situation could only help their image, (which they badly need right now). This was a big opportunity for them to take the spotlight off of the "Cuties" backlash, and shift it onto a situation that paints them in a much better light. I could definitely be wrong, but I just don't believe their motives were as altruistic as they may initially appear to be. It would have been a bad move for them, from a business standpoint, not to do the right thing this time.
@@Scorch428 well... yes and no. I believe that everyone should be paid for what they do, from Dave to everyone else. If he is allowed to do that just because of his position or power for who and what he is then so should all the people who have been ripped off in the last 100 years and forfeited homes, jobs, payouts and even winnings from loterries. Otherwise that's a much bigger injustice that the guy already worth 100's of millions is allowed to get MORE money for something he Lawfully and legally did wrong anyway. Regarding dave I think that it sucks for him that he signed it. But at the end of the day, he still signed it. He has the right to ask his fans to boycott it but I feel like CBS etc don’t owe him anything for the show. Like he said he agreed to sell it. That’s like when someone sells you the rights to a design they can’t later ask for more money if that design becomes successful.
I totally agree. If it was in his contract, it's entirely on him to know what he is signing... Or the attorney who read it and told him to sign it. No one else's fault.
It really depends on what happened during the signing, whose to say he was deceived by tricky writing or fooled by smart talking people. You can be used and sign away things due to being uneducated in certain things. I especially believe this for young stars who may get taken advantage of.
He didn't sell the show. The contact he signed fucked him out of the right to own the show. It's why he quit the show because they gave him a bad contract.
This is why I'm glad that he himself specified that what they did was legal, but legality doesn't mean the ethical right. Most corporations don't care about that and I'm not entirely convinced Netflix actually cares about that either. Regardless of their reasons, their heart or their shoes, I'm glad they took it down in the end despite being in the legal right.
Netflix cancels a show like Tuca & Bertie, and refused to bring it back, even though it was probably one of the lower budget programs they have. I guess they just really love their star players. They can give comedians like $90million contracts, but not a tiny little contract for 2 beloved birds
Tuca & Bertie was cancelled out of revenge. It's made by the same production house as Bojack which recently unionized. Netflix didn't like that one bit so it was cancelled. Thank God for Adult Swim saving it.
They should pay him. One of the most brilliant comedy shows ever made, in my opinion. I'd pay for streaming rights for that alone. Classic, hysterical show that still holds up.
It's only a minority boycotting Cuties. Mainly religious nuts and conservatives who need to bend all content to their strict agendas. Also Netflix didn't actually front up any money for Chapelle show so taking it off wouldn't be a loss compared to Cuties.

True but people will stop streaming because they also feel Dave is right and support him. I’m sure he’ll do another special for Netflix so it’s all about getting more $ for both. Might just work since they’ll lose millions.

@@scottbecker4367 That's not bad though. They can do more good if they control everything instead of the republicans stopping everything they are trying to do even if it's not a bad thing. If it's too radical even other democrats wont vote it through either.
@@GLUFSAREN I didn't say it was bad. I was pointing out why a voter roll purge could affect the runoff.
I have such a warm feeling in my chest at the idea of Netflix is just doing the right thing, regardless of the many reasons. it makes me feel so good to be supporting a company that follows a really personal moral code
I'm here 23 seconds after the upload and one mf already on that dislike, didn't even let my man explain himself 😂
Still trying to figure out who tf dislikes youtube videos
Same lol
I get disliking because of the misleading title. I wouldn't do it personally but I don't appriciate misleading titles.
@@GLUFSAREN I agree on principal, but "boycott Dave Chappelle" is word for work what Dave asked in his special, with some added nuance of course
Netflix did the right thing. They shouldn’t compromise the great relationship they have going with Dave.
I haven't heard John Kerry's name in a decade and a half. I legitimately forgot the man existed.
Thats just how I like my politicians.
Should've stayed that way.
He worked under the Obama administration and secured the Iran deal that helped Trump get elected because Trump said the deal was unfair to America (did you have a nice coma?)
He was Secretary of State in 2017. Which was like 2 Secretaries ago.
I actually kind of admire Netflix for that move.
Randy never completely recovered after the aliens abducted him...
It's the probing...
Bravo Netflix for pulling that out. I gotta say there's still hope in this world
Right! I hope they become the new Hollywood
Chappelle has so much new content I havn't even felt a need to scratch that itch. Hopefully Chappelle continues to do his shows and appearances. i really enjoy his new stuff.
So cool to hear about the new Mexico studio, I’m from there. The film industry there is actually huge
Didn’t Chapelle mention he wasn’t being paid for Chapelle Show on streaming platforms during his SNL monologue or am I misremembering?
Yep. He wasn't getting paid for Chappelle Show at all
Chappelle should forever get a royalty for the work and ideas he did with his staff and co workers...... This has to stop the man needs to get credit and monetary value for what a HUGE STORM of money the Chappelle show produced. Kudos to Netflix for doing the right thing.... despite backlash that is a good thing an I think OTHER creators will see this and flock there.
i wonder when im gonna see that title " we need to talk about Omaze(insert serious look with hand on chin thumbnail)"
True, with the way things have been going...
oo whats been happening? :o
So excited for ready player two! Ready player one is one of my favorite books and movies. They are so different from each other yet I love them both so much!
