    I appreciate the video. Buying the parts and following your instructions saved us about $700 from letting a mechanic do it. Thank you

    had overheating problems suspected the thermostat but car was towed to the dealer and wow do they soak you on this repair. I've done it many times on many different vehicles and its very easy repair. Garage is $350 at the dealership, just like the ridiculous $350 they quoted me to change spark plugs

    When you were draining the radiator from that valve did you get all of the coolant from the system or only a portion and if only a portion, how much of the overall radiator capacity did you drain out?

    Notice how good these engines are. That old thermostat with 150k looked clean as hell. These are great little engines. My 2014 3 has 189k and still runs flawless with almost 40 mpg highway at 72 mph. Love these whips.

      Nice! I only get 25 to 27 mpg. Maybe the 3 is a lot lighter so the mpg is that high?

    Really appreciate you doing this videos, well explain and no so much moving and shaking of camera. Thanks sincerely
    I’m wondering is it’s completely necessary to remove the computer and all of the other components. In California you have to wait days for computer to register the smog parameters and won’t pass smog check.

      Thank you!
      Yes it has to come off because the bracket that the it sits in is connected to the battery tray which has to get out of the way to access the thermostat housing

      Go to any parts website, enter your VIN and search your part and you'll get the exact part number that you need.

    Its basically the same on the 2.0l, 2.5 is literally just upscaled version of the 2.0 and they only thing that appears different is some hoses and wire routes because of the larger size in the engine bay. Positions on the engine and battery removal are the same

    Do you have to drain the coolant in order to replace the thermostat? I ask because i just replaced mine two months ago, feels like a waste

    • @footprintsinconc
      @footprintsinconc  11 месяцев назад +1

      you don't.
      you'll just loose some liquid when you remove the thermostat.
      i would clean the under carriage at the radiator, put a CLEAN bucket under the radiator, drain the radiator into bucket to reuse the coolant.
      with the system drained, remove thermostat for minimal coolant loss, and then once everything is back together, reuse the drained coolant.

      It might be different, recent mazdas using electronic controlled coolant valve instead of thermostat
