    Great detailed video for the DIY guy / gal 👍 but undeniably easiest way to remove belts when replacing especially stretch belts which more common on majority on new modern cars...
    is simply to use RazorKnife and cut belts off in 15 seconds
    then proper install as very well detailed..
    Happy wrenching 🔧

    Your video really helped me. I have 130,000 km on my 2015 Mazda CX-5 and the Serpentine belt blew, I had it replaced 4 years ago and decided to do it myself this time. I also replaced the waterpump belt because its getting up there in years and could go any day so i figured while I have everything pulled apart get it done .

    Any reason you went from a 13/16 socket when you took off the water pump belt, to a 21mm wrench when you put the belt back on?

  • @tormentthatinspires638
    @tormentthatinspires638 Год назад +7

    If you are swapping the water pump belt, remember to put the car in NEUTRAL (from the button under the gear shifter) and only turn CRANKSHAFT CLOCKWISE! Turning counter-clockwise can cause timing issues. I'm not sure if these were mentioned or emphasized in the video.

    So to take the water pump belt off, the crank pulley needs to be rotated clockwise, never counterclockwise?

    This is how you do the belts the easiest way for sure, nicely done. I have one small hint to add, when I did the belts on my Mazda 3 2.5 the streach on belt for the water pump would always walk its way over to the outer crank pully when you walked it on the pump. I found I had to then use the same technique of turning the crank pully with a wrench and walk it back on the rear pully on the crank after the fact. Hope this hint helps someone.

    Good video. I wonder how Mazda and manufacturers make it so difficult to get to the tensioner. The enginer/frame/engine cross members leave little room. Also, getting water pump belt on was diffcult for me, I am ok with tools and cars but darn I had to get a friend to help me, I needed one more hand as I only have two. Putting the serp back on was a PITA....But I got it, and your video was consulted several times in the process. To that thank you.

    • @homemechanics3349
      @homemechanics3349  4 года назад +2

      I would love to, but my water pump doesn’t need to be replaced at this point. For this vehicle it would honestly be a matter of removing that belt, draining all the coolant out through the petcock, removing the bolts from the water pump, making sure the mating surfaces are clean, adding the new water pump, refilling the coolant, and replacing the belts. As I have other things that need to be fixed on my vehicle I will post new videos.

    • @homemechanics3349
      @homemechanics3349  4 года назад

      While some of the concepts may be the same, it's a different part and a different set up. Here is the belt that you need: amzn.to/3lg375S. It’s just one belt instead of two. I believe this is the diagram for your vehicle: www.fixya.com/uploads/images/blew-serpentine-belt-dont-diagram-ghdahqg2ajax420sfccgbpmc-2-0.gif If you can find a video that fits that diagram it may be of more help. With all these Mazdas you will likely still need to go in through the wheel well.

    I also have a floor jack. Where did you jack the car from?
    The place you placed the jack stand protrudes outward so you can use the OEM jack stand. So, how did u floor the car from there using a normal floor jack?

    • @homemechanics3349
      @homemechanics3349  3 года назад

      If you can slide it far enough there is a center spot. I don’t think mine fits there very well. On this car I usually jack it from the side point right next to where I place the jack stand. That’s what it shows to do in the owners manual.

    • @gamingclash5

      @@homemechanics3349 Thanks for the reply!
      Unfortunately, my floor jack is not long enough to reach the center spot. what do exactly mean by side point? As there are only grooves for the OEM jacks. Where did you put the floor jacks exactly.
      Thanks in advance!

    • @homemechanics3349
      @homemechanics3349  3 года назад +1

      Check this link for where the jack points are on the Mazda 6. You can still place jack stands in the same place where your oem jack would go. www.mazda6info.net/jacking_positions_vehicle_lift_2_supports_safety_stands_rigid_rack_positions-525.html

    • @homemechanics3349
      @homemechanics3349  3 года назад

      Where it says vehicle lift supports you can lift from that point and slide your jack stand in there.

    • @gamingclash5
      @gamingclash5 3 года назад

      @@homemechanics3349 So you used the floor jack on the "vehicle lift" points? Is it not bad? Because these side lift points are meant only for an OEM jack not a floor jack.

      For a Cx5 it's a 20 min job with right belt size. I order a Gates belt and was way to tight...could lead to pulley issues if used...ordered a OEM slip belt was so easy 1 min to get on by hand. Also CX5 no tire to remove just turn wheel far right....there is plenty of room if you drive up on a thick board for a little extra space and are medium build. I just cut the belt off also... taking off is a pain. Good video.
