I recently bought a Penn 209M and forgot to adjust the bearing tension. Huge bird nest on the first cast. I’ve since watched a few videos here on the proper way to cast a conventional level wind reel. It’s really helped me get better at it. Still need more practice with this circle bait caster.
Top tip, spool with 50lb braid to your choice of leader. I've never had a birds nest with braid that I couldn't fix. And I've done some pretty bonehead things like cast into strong wind and smacking the lure into a concrete bridge support on a 3 mile hike lol.
We have all done it before. Thanks for sharing

Ohhh no! This can happen to the best of fishermen. Thanks for the reminder, Tyler.
I feel that! Happens all the time, been getting used to casting sideways

I’ll have to try that then cause clearly I need it
That's why it's best to have a few rods just in the case this happens.
No doubt
Just use spinning reel. So much less problems + easy to fix if line get's tangled
What’s funny is I had just put down my ultralight spinning reel right before this to use my baitcaster 😢
@shadowbassmw350 hahah, that happens, I prefer spinning reel over anything
