Malia Huff 24 fps may be smoother and better for programs like Adobe Animate, but when using something like fire alpaca, using 12 fps is best for a smooth look.
I learned that you can also animate by folders instead of purely just layers in FA. So really, you could put sketch, lineart, and color layers in a folder and that would be its own frame! Very convenient if you want to keep things organized without feeling the need to merge everything together. Great tutorial!

I know ps does have onion skin but it's definitely not this simple to use. As far as I know frame by frame mode in photoshop doesn't have onion skin but timeline mode does. But I don't like time line mode for animating.
It depends on the amount of minutes in an episode. If you are doing it by itself, it's going to take A LOONG time even if they are very short episodes.
Without a team it's gonna take an extremely long time. That's why with animation memes or animatics it's either not completely colored or traced, it's a simple and cartoony style, it's super short, etc.
Lazy Nezumi is a really awesome program that smooths and stabilizes your lines :) Idk if that's what she uses but I use it because I have terrible control with my lines while doing digital art and it makes a huge difference for me!
Easy, Correction. If your either on eraser or pen button, then at the top bar (Where all the line drawing options, like the circle drawing one, not the place where it has all the layer and select options) there should be an option called correction, set it to 19 and you got smooth brushes for days. You don't have to set it to 19. I just use 19 because it's the most smooth.
But firealpaca is free so you can download it anyway. The learning curve isn't too bad and you can use firealpaca for animating and medibang for everything else

I honestly fail to believe that a programme thats so good, is free. Im asuming that th website isn't lying, but i would like someone to tell me that it is free, just to be sure...
the site provided is for making gifs but you can technically use firealpaca for drawing the frames. but then you'd have to export those frames to either an animation program or a video editing program to make an actual video.
GameSnex i tried pencil, and, i thunk that is is poop. It is okay if you want to like just have fun with it, but if you want to make good qualitu long animations, it is really bad. It does not have layers, it has like 2 brushes, it is just bad in my opinion

I really thank you for this tutorial!!! I have been going back and forth between different animation programs. For one of my studios we had to create a project with goes with the concept of Time. So i chose to do an animation/GIF. This was a life savor, since i never done animation before
every time i try to drop my files, it won't upload because it says: "aborted the processing of the file that exceeds 1024KB (1.0MB) or is an unsupported format. (000.png)" PLEASE HELP ME ;-;
click on "select tool", drag it so that the "dotted lines" surroround what u wanna copy, click/hold ctrl+C, and just click ctrl+V and it will instantly paste onto a new layer! hope it helps!
Silly Doodler if your taking pictures from Google and wanting it on firealpaca then go to file and click open. make sure you saved the picture as a PNG.then click the copy button and paste it I guess...sorry if your talking about something else I probs don't know how to do it

omg thank you so much this helped me so much because before I had to animate on paint and that takes a LONG time and I can add shading to my animations without it going all over the place!
I can't animate blinking so what I do is I draw the eyes fully open, paste and shrink half way closed, paste and shrink to give a guideline on how the closed eyes should look. If you want it to look a bit nicer, make the eyes grow and then shrink. Also, I personally like the look of the eye blink when the bottom of the eye stays in one spot. You don't Have to do this but it does make it easier since you are only drawing two frames.
WHoaaa what a super close and easy alternative to Macromedia Flash! It's probably not meant for relatively big animation project/works that need around 12 frames or that has a 10 -minute or more duration, but it really is perfect for simple GIF works.
If paired with a video editing program, it can be used for bigger projects. I am using it for an animatic right now, and paired with Windows Movie Maker, it can do wonders.

If it helps (in my opinion) 24 fps usually makes a very smooth animation that makes it look like its really moving/

TANK I use Photoshop, usually not to animate but it can be used for this and there are RUclips videos on it. Search it up and you won't regret it~

How do I do different layers on the same animation frame? Just wondering so that I can make it easier to colour.
You can use folders.
Make a folder, then put layer(s) in folder by dragging it(the layer/s) into the fodder, Or basically over it
Or turn off the onion skin mode, color it, merge the color layer with the sketch/lineart layer and turn on onion skin mode again

She probably just messed with her tablet's pen settings, or has a high correction :3
You just have to select the pencil tool in FireAlpaca :)

people in other comments have been saying to use opentoon for real animation since it's quite professional,free and made by studio ghibli.
Macromedia Flash is another popular free animation program, I would like to get TVPaint at some point though.

WHoaaa what a super close and easy alternative to Macromedia Flash! It's probably not meant for relatively big animation project/works that need around 12 frames or that has a 10 -minute or more duration, but it really is perfect for simple GIF works.
If paired with a video editing program, it can be used for bigger projects. I am using it for an animatic right now, and paired with Windows Movie Maker, it can do wonders.
