I read in a book by Nishant K.Sinha, there was an example using the conjunction 'and'. It was "My teachers and my best friend is invited to my wedding party" (Page 1.8). why 'is' is used here instead of are? Is it correct?

Yes. That's absolutely correct. "As well as" refers to the first noun "Ravi", which is singular

Sir, you said we need to ask "Who" or "What" to the main verb but here @ 4:45 negligible is an adjective.

@@theshrishteaaa Actually what sir did was correct. "The members who contributed" is a set of people. So the question is to be asked on verb "Is" in the sentence. The person who asked the doubt is wrong here, although negligible is an adjective, Sir Actually asked the question Who 'Is" negligible. So the answer comes to the number of etc etc. So its correct.

Typically collective nouns are singular but when there is a divide or a split within the collective noun, in that case plural verb is used

Here "food" is a mass noun. So the it will be "some of the food is left."
Take an another example, "there is a lot of water."
You can't say , there are a lot of water.
Mass nouns are always singular.
