I think you guys have revived what music videos were all about. The level of creativity and technical elegance is just wonderful. You got me to want to watch music videos again.
I was always amazed at those crowds in sport stadiums that hold up signs to spell or to visualize things, when I saw the video I knew that had to be an inspiration. Very smart to play it at half-speed, I kinda noticed it when watching the video since it was kinda... it stuttered a little, but at the big scenes you couldn't tell a thing. Amazing!
This is how you do great advertisement. They used something as part of an "ad", but it still works as an art piece on its own merit. They didn't compromise their integrity, and it wholly adds to the experience.
4 questions. 1) How the FREAK did they do that cool thing at the end when they made the images with the umbrellas? 2)Who else has a HUMONGOUS crush on Damian? 3)Where did they even get that many "Future Chairs" from? Was this a sponsored video or what? 4)Where the HELL did they get that much space to make those really big images at the end with the army of girls with different colored umbrellas and they made the title and stuff like that out of umbrellas?
1) It's called "mass games". google it, It's pretty neat 2)Yes. 3) I don't think it was sponsored, I think it was just "with support" from Honda. 4) Damian said in BTS (can't remember which) that it was filmed in an abandoned parking lot.
1. I would guess that they use a computer to draw the images as a grid where each i, j position is either on or off. It's complicated looking at it overall, but each person just has to know the sequence for their position. Off off on off off on off etc. Every person doing their own sequence gets you the desired image.
If I had to direct this I would too use a computer program to generate some sort of pixelated/color coded video. I'd then get a device for each person which would display an individualized track of OPEN/CLOSE sequences for each person. This way nobody would have to remember any timing, and just follow the devices instructions under the umbrella. If they can afford this many honda chairs, they should be able to afford that kind of tech as well. This would eliminate the cost of everyone practicing their choreo for months. People would just be playing "Umbrella Hero".
+Ziggonat No CGI at all. One take, reguardless of how many takes it took, still one take. They used a program to show what it would look like but everything was executed by real people in real time. Only sped up so everything looked nicer in the video
03:49 - seems Nocchi really had to write on that clapperboard each take. I don't know why that amuses me so much. It's such an unceremonious cameo, imagine how much time they must've spent just sitting around, haha.
no CG, people are great so amzing, just sad the video cant reach 1 billion views, u guys (ok go) always out of the box and i love all ur work at first sight, keep do amazing work guys :)
Still not buying it. If anything this makes me more skeptical, I have a hard time believing they really got hundreds of those things. They could have cgi'd this as well.
Thats a lot of effort and money to CG people in a 'making of' video that not many people will watch. I think you're being skeptical for the sake of being skeptical at this point.
Thanks for the behind the scenes vid. It was great seeing this in actual time in some scenes. I am fascinated by the amount of time you guys take to create one piece of art.
Sepharig Gaming with "the original take" i just mean this one but in original speed...i'm very interested to see how everyone acted with the slow music in the background :)
If you download the VLC player (free), you can slow down the footage yourself. Where the little bar moves across the screen, there are arrows that you can click.
It's so refreshing to see @OKGo sitting in a video instead of paint gunned, batting beach balls, treadmilling, or blasted into smithereens by Muppets. Love "I Won't Let You Down"
Damian and Tim I just love this. This is amazing. I would like to get my class of 13 year olds (30 students) to do something like this for our Celebration Of Learning (Maths) showing the sequence of Square Numbers and/or Triangular Numbers. We've got the drone and the 30 umbrellas are easy. I just need to work on the music, lyrics and choreography. Lol
this is a 3 year old comment but I figured I'd reply anyways lol, pretty sure they get most of their funding through sponsors! In this case it was Honda. they've also done one advertising for chevy using their car, and another morton salt.
It's all real umbrellas, folks. The entire video is exactly as it appears. They could afford all of those mobile-chairs and things cuz of their partnership with Honda. It's thanks to that that videos like this and Needing/Getting are possible.
Garrett Randall I can see the central dozen but 3000+ scooters at (I'm guessing from segway pricing) 10 grand a pop...even to borrow, I don't think there are that many. When I see more camera angles I'll believe it.
You show up with hundreds of umbrella's and you're surprised you got rain?? LOL Hey, the universe is listening and just trying to support you! hehee. LOVE YOUR WORK!!!!
I have a broken leg, I spent 2 months waiting for surgery since I had a lot of inflammation, finally they I got my bones fixed with a plate and I have to wait two or three more months for them to heal, so I guess an uniclub would be better than my wheel chair lol

3:18 how ironic that a video featuring hundreds of umbrellas was delayed by rain lol
rockerseven well they did explain that the ‘chairs’ they used cant be used under rain
@@kwyite nah
김테리 they did, trust me
@@kwyite plz.. that's just joke
김테리 sorry lol, didnt realize that
The reveal that the 1000+ dancers at the end was COMPLETELY REAL blew my mind! I always figured that specifically was CGI.
I also thought the same thing🫠
And all on those Honda wheel things!
If only they had some umbrellas when it rained.
OK GO makes the best music videos. You guys are in a league of your own.
Better than Michael Jackson back in the day? ;)
I think you guys have revived what music videos were all about. The level of creativity and technical elegance is just wonderful. You got me to want to watch music videos again.
素晴らしいMVで大好きです。定期的に見に来てしまいます。感動です!!
Just stunning how everything is just one take!
I was always amazed at those crowds in sport stadiums that hold up signs to spell or to visualize things, when I saw the video I knew that had to be an inspiration. What a creative Honda ad.

im guessing LOTS of practice and order and patience

2)Yes.

this comment is from four years ago but man is it still a mood 😭😭😭

Very Beautiful Work !!!
"Our videos usually start from pretty simple ideas" Show me one effing video of OKGO that is simple
Skyscrapers.
Treadmills...
There are more "Behind the Scenes" coming for this one, right? Gimmee MOAR!!!
-Hey, Tim
-Yeah, Damian?
-I could use an umbrella.
-Let me get you one **nyooom**
-Ta-da
the rain was probably a blessing in disguise, post rain sky is absolutely beautiful
Wait... Are all the dancers in the video actually real? No CGI? In one take?
+Ziggonat No CGI at all. One take, reguardless of how many takes it took, still one take. They used a program to show what it would look like but everything was executed by real people in real time. Only sped up so everything looked nicer in the video
That is really impressive even by OK GO's standards.
+Ziggonat I literally thought the same thing... I usually just leave the behind the scenes to videos as movie magic but I had to know... and they are
127 takes :O
I think they meant to say "one continuous take" as in there being no cuts.
This was the best music video i seen for a long time.
03:49 - seems Nocchi really had to write on that clapperboard each take. I don't know why that amuses me so much. It's such an unceremonious cameo, imagine how much time they must've spent just sitting around, haha.

Still not buying it. If anything this makes me more skeptical, I have a hard time believing they really got hundreds of those things. They could have cgi'd this as well.
You ever seen bands perform during half time shows at football games? It's the same concept. Not that it makes this video any less impressive.
Thats a lot of effort and money to CG people in a 'making of' video that not many people will watch. I think you're being skeptical for the sake of being skeptical at this point.
you can see around at 4:20 the yellow group trying to get into position it kind of amused me haha
johnny Smith i
I love that they always put so much work into their videos
Thanks for the behind the scenes vid. It was great seeing this in actual time in some scenes. I am fascinated by the amount of time you guys take to create one piece of art.
It wasn't CGI! I'm so happy :') You guys are such a huge inspiration, love your work!
Thanks for posting the 'behind-the-scenes' footage guys.
Really beautiful and complex composition. Amazing work, guys.
Amazing and innovative. You guys are fantastic. We need more of this kind of stuff in the world.
Guys, I really love all your videos! They're all pieces of art.
And it's so to see all the 'behind the scenes' stuff.
im hoping that they're gonna upload the original take
Wait what happened in the original take?
Sepharig Gaming
with "the original take" i just mean this one but in original speed...i'm very interested to see how everyone acted with the slow music in the background :)
Oh okay sorry I was confused. I wanna see that too as well as all the different camera angles like they did for "The Writing's on the Wall."
If you download the VLC player (free), you can slow down the footage yourself. Where the little bar moves across the screen, there are arrows that you can click.
***** You can do that in RUclips, also. Click on the little gear and change the video speed.
You guys are beyond amazing. Keep the wonderful videos coming!
You guys put some much work into your material, this stuff really is artistic
These guys are next-level genius.
Every time I see the video I am amazed.
Damn, Just damn.

It's so refreshing to see @OKGo sitting in a video instead of paint gunned, batting beach balls, treadmilling, or blasted into smithereens by Muppets.
Love "I Won't Let You Down"
Epic video !!! Congratulations from Brazil :)

so awesome!!!!!!!
This is sooo cool. I definitely could tell it was sped up espcially when you guys leave the building :P SOOOO cool how it all came together :D
this is so beautiful!!!!
Love it
These guys are not musicians, they are artists!
Perfume 0,0 omg
Pharell should work with that Japanese guy - they wear big hats after all.
Fantastic!
Perfume brought me here.
Same. They weren't even mentioned here though! Everybody probably thinks they're just part of the filming crew.
This video is so cool..! I really like it. It's amazing.!
Great JOB !!!!
Amazing stuff.
ほとんど誰もコメントで触れないけど、このビデオの一番の功労者は規律正しく動く女子高生達だと思う。もっと評価されて然るべきかと。
それは私も思いました
what
@@c.q.cumber.5329
nobody says
But the most worker is disciplined girls in this video
there should be evaluated
A buncha geniuses I tell you, a buncha geniuses.
Love you guys
This is so cool! I would love to see the raw video with the slowed down footage. The song sounds so weird that slow.
Go on the video in google chrome, play at 0.5 speed, it's strange but accurate enough
The only group whose clips look interesting. Creativity is just awesome. Well surprised.
あぁ 字幕が欲しい!!
Oh... this PV's choreographer is Japanese famous choreographer 'AIR:MAN'!!
2:22 Bless you Damian. ;-)
GREAT !
wait. girls with umbrella at the end were also on UNICUB??
there were literally thousands of them. amazing
Not all of them, only the girls towards the beginning.
ART
I didn't know this band sold enough records to have such high production videos
this is a 3 year old comment but I figured I'd reply anyways lol, pretty sure they get most of their funding through sponsors! In this case it was Honda. they've also done one advertising for chevy using their car, and another morton salt.
So cool
Wait so was the final birds eye view shots sfx or actual umbrellas?
Actual umbrellas. They played in half-time over the speakers to make it easier for everyone to coordinate properly
It's all real umbrellas, folks. The entire video is exactly as it appears. They could afford all of those mobile-chairs and things cuz of their partnership with Honda. It's thanks to that that videos like this and Needing/Getting are possible.

frollard They have said the people at the end didn't have Uni-Cubs...
*****
It's fair what they say, but you can't see leg shadows when they are still relatively zoomed in -- they all just glide into place.
As long as it sounds good as a final product, it's good.
You show up with hundreds of umbrella's and you're surprised you got rain?? LOL
Hey, the universe is listening and just trying to support you! hehee.
LOVE YOUR WORK!!!!
Definitely genius!
♥♥♥ awesome=D
"It rained"
Well good thing you had all those umbrellas!
I have a broken leg, I spent 2 months waiting for surgery since I had a lot of inflammation, finally they I got my bones fixed with a plate and I have to wait two or three more months for them to heal, so I guess an uniclub would be better than my wheel chair lol
I wish the footage showed us the entirety of the video, but in real time.
There is close to 2,000 people
SO COOL!
You didn't even mention Perfume. They're the biggest stars in Japan and you didn't think it was worth mentioning why they were there?
Ty
At the very end, did the camera go up and you guys did the whole thing with umbrellas? Thats so cool
Show!!!!!
Surrounded by hundreds of beautiful young Japanese girls with nothing to because of rain. How did you cope?
+Docktor Jim It's hard. I mean... really really hard... :))
Tentacle Monsters is my best guess.
So it's like the "hoverboard" everyone's using now but you getta sit
Are those Honda wheel things (whatever they are called) available for sale?
+Karl “Kidologist” Bastian: It's a Honda UNI-CUB www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=honda+uni-cub
I know your comment's old, but no, they're not available yet
That link is dead.
Anyone knows where else to look for Behind The Scene for this marvelous music video 'I Wont Let You Down'?
