    When it comes to the art of music videos, these guys are operating on a completely different level than the rest of the world.

    • @connorclemmons8698

      Andrew Rothman Exactly, these guys are using slow motion to its greatest potential where they are even syncing the voices of the video with the audio (No CGI). Where as we've got people like Imagine Dragons with their stuffed animal fight-to-the-death matches singing about being a badass in what we can assume is after a nuclear fallout.

      Andrew Rothman Mutemath is close but OK Go still wins. Mutemath holds the current record for fastest production of a music video though, the video for their song "Blood Pressure" went from the start of planning to RUclips in under 24 hours.

    • @leaffinite2001

      @Marco they are still real guitars blowin up, right?

    • @WarrenGarabrandt
      @WarrenGarabrandt 3 года назад +23

      @Marco They WOULD have been "real" guitars in a shop, sold to a musician, and cared for lovingly, played for fun and for live performances, etc. Except, they have something wrong with them that couldn't be feasibly fixed. The wood was warped, or the grain structure wasn't right causing a crack or split. The varnish didn't come out right or something like that. They are real objects, but instead of going into a dumpster and eventually a landfill, they came to us in the form of entertainment...and then into a dumpster and eventually a landfill.

    • @joltman81
      @joltman81 2 года назад +3

      Same. And it's oddly satisfying that these defective guitars were still used in music...

    Stilll can't believe you guys synched the fliping pages to the song.....

    • @EricRogstad
      @EricRogstad 4 года назад +27

      Notice that different parts of the video are at different speeds. So I think deciding exactly at which frames to slow down / speed up gives them some leeway, so they can get the pages right.

    • @EricRogstad
      @EricRogstad 4 года назад +3

      Or maybe they planned it out down to the frame ahead of time? Crazy spreadsheet featured here: ruclips.net/video/DvElCxbimxc/видео.html

    • @matthewb.1687
      @matthewb.1687 3 года назад +2

      Also they had to synch the explosions of color in time with the song and the pages. I am certain that that shot was extremely difficult and took weeks of practice to get it spot on.

    • @ZrhioZ
      @ZrhioZ 2 года назад +4

      Yes, they toyed a little bit with the framerate, that's the advantage of using a high speed camera that maybe shoots 10.000 fps. Anyway this is technically insane to film, but the editing was probably really fun. To match each explosion to a beat is really pleasing.

    • @DaFunkmastaFresh
      @DaFunkmastaFresh 2 года назад +5

      He mentioned that they have a spreadsheet of every single frame of the music video that corresponds to a millisecond of the actual video.
      Via this method they were able to ensure that each part of the video was synched perfectly.

    Morton's Salt is a company that makes and sells salt, and they don't *have* a bloody message other than *BUY OUR SALT.*
    But I'm glad they're willing to spend their salt bucks behind the creation of something so amazing. Well done, Morton's Salt! They've clearly got the saltiest salt, and we all should buy it.

    • @offthesidelines
      @offthesidelines 7 лет назад +30

      Did you actually check out the link in the mv) or watch this video carefully? They're supporting five different non-profit organizations with OK Go's help.

    • @fozzibab
      @fozzibab 7 лет назад +13

      I didn't click the link, but it doesn't really matter. Companies don't support charities or non-profits for the pure altruism it represents. Through doing good they are in fact pulling off a positive public-relations campaign, designed to bolster the company's image to potential customers.
      "Oh", you're supposed to say, "I heard that Morton's Salt donated money to the homeless or whatever! We should totally buy their salt because they are clearly good people at heart."
      No. They're a company with the goal of making a profit, and spending some of their revenue on good PR usually results in increased sales. It's all a marketing stunt, with the benefit of maybe-actually doing some actual social good. I guess everybody wins?

    • @offthesidelines
      @offthesidelines 7 лет назад +24

      I'm not part of the company (Morton's Salt in this case)'s higher ups nor do I work for them so I don't claim to know what they're thinking. In some cases it might be a sincere wish to do good in return and in some cases it might , just as you said, be nothing more than a marketing stunt (I'm not going to deny that). Then again I think for a lot of companies it might be both - might as well kill two birds with one stone? If it's also going to benefit everyone, why not then! Having said that, I do think they took the time to pick the individuals/organizations they wanted to bring attention to. It's nice that they didn't take the easy option and just randomly pick a huge famous charitable organization that everyone could've instantly recognize.

    • @Thatguyujustmet
      @Thatguyujustmet 7 лет назад +3

      I agree... without any knowledge of who they are, only the organizations they picked, I'd argue that it's a bit of both. Also, my parents already buy Morton, and by choosing these charities, working with ok go, and simply doing a pr stunt so creatively... I'm going to keep the "tradition" going.

    I love how forward thinking and smart they are. Obviously the music and videos are incredible and unique, but how forward thinking they are always seem to catch me off guard. As well all can see they use a ton of different props in their videos, and use them in very unique ways. The guitars being blown up, my first thought was, "That kind of sucks and what a waste". I just thought how much more beneficial they would have been if they were donated to a music school or something, rather than being destroyed. Had I never watched the video my thoughts would have remained the same, and I'm sure I wasn't alone in my first reaction. They were smart enough to know that was going to be an issue. So they contacted the manufacturer and asked for defects that would have been scrapped anyway. Same goes for the Obsession video. All the paper that was used in the video was not only recycled, but recycled for a profit in which they donated to a green charity. It's just so amazing! I really don't think I would have been able to think that far ahead and make sure it was covered.

    how many takes do they have to do for all this?

      They did 62 takes - it cost 12 million - meanwhile children die of starvation because we feed plant crops to slave animals so the rich can eat dead bodies.
      I'm only joking - I think it was like 3 takes.
