I subbed to your channel. I have both, the OG 23cc HPI Baja that is about 8 years old or more as well as a new Rovan 30.5cc. I can say, we love both of them. The Rovan seems to be very good quality for the price point. I paid 429 for my Rovan and when I got the OG HPI 5b, it was 869.99 The only thing I broke on the Rovan was the chassis, of course almost any would break too if they slammed a pole at full speed. The HPI had the rear shock supports replaced due to a crack and the Rovan aluminum part fit perfectly. I have stripped the spur gear 2 times on my Rovan since they are plastic. On our channel, we compare them side by side on the bench and take them for a run. @@RCKnockout Yep. it's fine to play with but, the weight of the Baja is incredible the stock motor doesn't get the front wheels off the ground. Ethanol based fuel tends to go bad pretty fast. I also like to use premium fuel in my RC cars for this reason. Not for performance reasons. I use Shell V-power which has 0% ethanol in it. It's better for the little carburators in these gas powered RC vehicles. I also use fuel stabilizer, because I don't drive my gas powered RC's that often, so a 5 liter can will last me a long time normally. The fuel stabilizer prevents my gasoline from going bad before I have a chance to drive my cars I normally fill my fuel bottle up with 5 liters and mix it with oil in the ratio 1:28.

Yeah I’m really glad that king motor and rovan are out there otherwise I’d have problems getting ahold of parts for my Baja’s. It’s a good machine though! 😉👍
My rovan rc baja has 36cc engine and it didn't cost as much as what you paid for that one.
Yeah but that’s also a clone….not an authentic HPI….that’s why it cost less
Im getting a 30.5 cc baja 5b for around 500
That’s awesome!
Check this out. ruclips.net/video/NLTB1SVTzw8/видео.html
We also have one of them racing at an old golf course driving range. ruclips.net/video/U4-cYDeqGDU/видео.html
Thanks for the sub! I just checked out your channel. Like the content you’re putting out so I subscribed to your channel as well. I don’t have any experience with the OG 23cc. I do have experience with the larger displacement 26cc fuelie though. Seems to be a pretty good motor. How has the reliability and power been on the Rovan motor??
@@RCKnockout Thanks for the sub! The OG 23 almost always fires up, sometimes we have to adjust the needles as almost any motor. The Rovan has only given me an issue when the sparkplug wire kept popping off the plug, we just tightened up the wire spring inside the rubber boot. The Rovan runs good, took a bit to get the HS needle just right. It fired up right out of the box though. I need metal spur gear though as I've went through 2 lately... The Rovan engine seems strong, and with the stock pipe, its loud and obnoxious hahahaha.. Can't go wrong with the Rovan, we recommend it for a good entry 5th scale gasser..Tons of fun
@@BMPowered glad to hear that it’s treated you well! It definitely sounds like a good entry level into the 1/5 scale gas powered scene.
I could definitely use your help .... im looking to buy a 1/5 scale gas powered RC .... THESE BUGGYS LOOK LIKE ALOT OF FUN .... I have little knowledge, I know ROVAN , HPI , KING MOTOR ARE ALL COMPATIBLE PARTS .... MY FRIEND WHO IS IN EXOERT IN THIS STUFF AND CINVERTED THEM TO SPRINT AND LATE MODEL CARS .... I LOOKED AT THE UPGRADES AND ITA LITTERALY ALL THE SAME UP GRADES AS THE ROVAN ...
Any help ???????
I’m thinking of putting a carbon fiber main chassis and other carbon fiber chassis bits on it, do you think the weight savings would make a difference
Maybe a little bit but I don’t think it’ll make a huge difference
@@RCKnockout do you think getting reservoir oil shock tanks be any better for the car?
@@charliemaybe no I doubt it would
@@RCKnockout have you ever considered the twin engine kit? Do you think it would be worth it to put two engines in?
@@charliemaybe I’ve never heard of a twin engine kit…..you mean a twin cylinder engine?
I think fg marder was one of the first and that was released in 1991/1992
Was that a rtr though? I’m pretty sure Hpi is still the one that made it more mainstream though
@@RCKnockout not sure but they use to race them back then as my mate did in the mid 90s
@@adamsrcs7205 cool to know! Is that the brand that’s still around that makes a lot of 1/5 scale on road cars?
@@RCKnockout yes it is but I will say that the quality of the brand has seemed to have gone down hill

I got a km baja 5b with a rovan engine
Nice!
HPI Baja 5B 30.5cc vs Rovan 23cc Baja 5B (Side by Side Comparison)
ruclips.net/video/NLTB1SVTzw8/видео.html Rovan 469 Ready to Run and built much sturdier.
The 26cc motor was junk! It was weak and didn't last very long the first upgrade to along with a clutch. Otherwise it's a tough beast! I put a 30.5 in and only have put rings so far.
Really the 26cc fuelie felt fine to me…it seemed to have adequate power for the Baja
@@RCKnockout Yep. it's fine to play with but, the weight of the Baja is incredible the stock motor doesn't get the front wheels off the ground. Most gas cars of 1/8 scale have a lot more pep so , scale wise being 1/5 it's slow. Yes, it's big and why I opted for a 30.5 motor. It's still under powered compared to electric power but, I love the sound a gas motor makes.
@@logo8009 1/8 nitro powered cars probably would have more pep…yeah my Baja couldn’t lift the wheels with the 26cc fuelie…it can barely do it now with the 29cc dynamite motor
so if i get a a 29cc how fast well it be
29cc is just the displacement. The actual power can differ from motor to motor also depending on whether or not it’s upgraded and if it’s running a pipe or not
Nice bro I like the baja
Thanks! 😉
Is it true that they are discontinued?
It’s kinda up in the air I’m not sure. Hpi hasn’t been doing great though
They have recently dropped some stock parts back on the market.
@@rcPYROone really? Authentic HPI parts?
Are the servo interchangeable
No the throttle and brake servo is only 1/10 size….the steering servo is 1/5 size
@@RCKnockout I just bought one why does it roll when you start it

What kind would kind would you buy ??? Im interested in buying a 1/5 scale gas powered RC ... PROBABLY A BUGGY FOR UNDER $1000 ...... ANY HELP/ INFO PLEASE ..... THANK YOU
U don’t use the high octane it offers no extra benefit other then extra cash normal octane is enough
I have a couple of original MK1 Hpi bajas stored away, my brothers and I moved onto different vehicles;
they've barely been ran, and have been on asphalt.
drop me a line if anybody is interested.
You should get them out and drive them….might reignite your interest in the Baja
@@RCKnockout ill always keep my shelf queen for emergencies. though I have moved onto boats, I lay them up and rig them myself. multi cylinder offshore beasts, currently working on the biggest powerboat in the world... ;)

is 29cc fast
Kinda. It’s decent with stock gearing. It can pull a wheelie but it has to hook up just right and it can’t ride it out or bring the front end up at speed.
Show 👍🏻🤩
Appreciate it!
I have a 30.5 cc rovan at half price than the hpi it cost me 500 brand new
Nice!
How's it been holding up since then , and what has broke fairly quick or broke at all so I know what parts to buy because I'm either. Buying the same one you have or the Rovan 36cc for $600 OR MAKE OFFER SO FIGURE $550 AND ITS NEW FROM PRIMAL RC IN COTTAGE, NY
BUT EVERYBODY ZAYS HOW GREAT hpi is .. I don't if its worth the extra money ??? also a good friend of mine who is in expert with this stuff, he has a bunch and races them , rebuilds them , ect .. . He told me to get a KING MOTOR 1/5 SCALE 30.5CC FOR $599.00 ....ON KING MOTKR SITE , BUT THERE IS A WAITING LIST , THERE OUT OF STOCK RIGHT NOW .... I KNIW ALL PARTS ARE COMPATIBLE.... @@beukeboom3879 I've owned a 36cc Rovan Baja 5b for about a year. Definitely worth picking up the 36cc she is a screamer. As for parts I would start off with blue locktite for anything on the chassis and red for exhaust bolts, Pick up a screw kit just in case. Get knobby tires and look into some shocks and you're good, maybe look into symmetrical steering kit as well. They are great products just need some TLC
@@jonathanrigley981 Hey,
THANKS ALOT ! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR FEEDBACK...... sorry if I already asked you this or a similar question .... but is it really worth it to get the 36cc over let's say a 29cc or 30.5cc ????
My buddy races these , well these start off as bugg I es and they turn them into LATE MODEL & SPRINTS .... were they go around the dirt oval track ( were you kinda drift around the turns ) there's no tracks like that in NY , BUT I WENT WITH HIM TO DELAWRE AND NEW JERSEY.... HE GOES EVERY OTHER WEEK AND HE BIG INTO THESE ......
He's telling me I should get the 29cc instead because its less strain on everything and the 29cc or 30.5cc are really fast .... and something else I forgot exactly what he said .....
BUT IDK IF HES JUST SAYING IT BECAUSE THATS WHAT HE HAS , AND HE WANTS ME TO GET INTO WHAT HE DOES .... AND THE 2 MOTOR SIZES IN THAT TYPE OF RACING IS 28.5CC OR 30.5CC ......
BUT BASICALLY WHAT I WANT TO ASK IS , IS IT ANY FASTER ??? IT STILL SAYS IN TBE SPECS 40+ MPH ..... YOU WOUKD THINK IT WOULD SAY IT WAS A LITTKE FASTER FROM 29CC TO 36CC ???
ALSO IS IT ALOT LOUDER THEN THE 29CC .... I KNOW THESE THINGS SCRSAM , IVE WATCHED YOU TUBE VIDEOS AND BEEN AROUND THEM IN PERSON ......BUT WITH MY NEIGHBOR'S I DONT WANT IT TO BE TOO TOO LOUD ON DAYS I MESS WITH IT AROUND YARD AND DOWN THE STREET ....
AND LAST WHEN YOU SAY GET KNOBBY TIRES ..... WHAT KIND OF KNOBBY TIRES YOU TALKING ABOUT THE ONES THAT LOOK LIKE LITTLE PINS COMMING UP ( LIKE YOU SEE ON A 1/10 BUGGY OR SOMETHING) OR KNOBBY TIRES LIKE A MIX BETWEEN STREET AND OFF ROAD ........ CAUSE THOSE ARE THE 2 TYPES OF TIRES I SEE THAT COME WITH THEM , MAINLY THE ONES THAT LOOK LIKE ON / OFF ROAD .....
I KNOW WHEN I BUY THE BUGGY , FIRST THING I WAS GONNA D OK AAS BUY AN EXTRA SET OF TIRES ESPICALLY FOR THE REAR CAUSE I KNOW THEY GO FAST , BUT I VALUE YOUR OPINON ON WICH ONES TO GET .
AND ALSO I WAS THINKING OF WHA T YOU SAID .... TO BUY AN EXTEA SCREW SET , CAUSE I KNOW THEY VIBRATE OUT ..... INFACT THATS THE BIGGEST THING THATS SLOWING ME DOWN ON BUYING ONE THE FACT THAT ALL THE SCREWS VIBRATE OUT ... ( I KNOW AFTER EVERY USE TIGHTEN AND CHECK ALL THE SCREWS ) ........ OHH I THINK THATS WHAT ELSE MY BUDDY SAID MAYBE WITH THE BIGGER MOTOR ITS GONNA BE VIBRATING MORE AND MORE STUFF IS GON B A COME LOOSE AND APART, ECT ....
I WAS THINKINH ABOUT BUYING THE 1/5 SCALE LOSI DBXL ( THE K&N ONE ) FOR $900 ... BUT I HATE THE FACT IT ONLY HAS A 23CC ENGINE AND I HEAR ITA NOT WORTH UPGRADING THE ENGINE TO 29CC CAUSE IT DOESNT MAKE TOO MUCH DIFFERENCE AND BETTER OFF BUYING A WHOLE NEW 32CC ENGINE ON IT ..... BUT I DONT WANNA BUY A BRAND NEW BUGGY JUST TO BUY ANOTHER ENGINE FOR IT RIGHT AWAY ????
I LOVE TBE ROVAN BUGGY STYLE AND THEY LOOK LIKE SO MUCH FUN ...... I JUST DONT WANNA MAKE THW WRONG MISTAKD OF BUYING THE WRONG TRUCK ....
LIKE I DID WHEN I BOUGHT MY X MAXX ... I MEAN THE TRUCK IS ALOT OF FUN BUT MY FRIEND CONVINCED ME TO GET ELECTRIC CAUSE IM A GEAR HEAD AND LOVE GAS ENGINES AND I DROPPED LIKE $2000 ON IT JUST BUY BUYING 4 TEAXXAS VATTERIES , AN EXTEA SET OF STOCK TIRES & RIMS , AFTERMARKET BIG TIRSS AND RIMS THAT WERS SUPPISED TO BE GOOD IN THE WINTER, AN RPM WHEELIE BAR, ROM REAR HUN CARRIERS WITH OVERSIZED BEARINGS.
AND JUST SPENT $100 ON NEW SPUR AND PINON GEARS AND METAL SERVI GEARS CAUSE THEY ALL JUST WENT ON ME AT ONCE ....... REGARDLESS I DO LIKE THE TRUCK ALIT BUT WOUKD OF RATHER PUT THAT $2000 TO A REALLY NICE GAS POWERED CAR ....
SORRY FOR THE NOVEL I JUST WROTE ...LOL
@@jonathanrigley981 one more question .... the aftermarket Chrome silencers that clamp on to the exhaust ( i see them for $22.00 - $38.00, mainly about $25 ) ..... does it quiet it down at a little ??? .... that is if you ever used one or seen one with it on ???
King motor invented the baja, but sold the rights to hpi, king motor bought out rovan,so the hpi is the copy
No I’m pretty sure thats not the case….I’ve heard the story before….I think it was originally outsourced from someone but not from King Motor….I believe King Motor and Rovan are both clones
It's true, king motor was a company losing money so sold rights to hpi,now hpi has been in administration 4 times now, some Dutch company as baled them out,I've had both and rovan is getting far better, hpi is still using old tooling on their parts

Lol premium fuel does nothing... Just get the cheapest fuel, octane level doesn't matter at all.
Premium doesn’t have Ethanol...I prefer not to use Ethanol in my rcs
@@Tomberland84 yeah I use 91 octane without ethanol and I use fuel stabilizer if I have the rc sitting more than a few weeks
