For any Baja owners- the best power bang for the buck is a Rovan 45cc by far! Drops right in. Gear WAY up, watch it go wheels up the entire length of the field (80+ yards at my field), and certainly over 50mph. And that was with a way too small 30cc pipe! They make a true 45cc pipe now. Or keep your engine and add the 2 speed. 2 speeds around $230, 45cc is around $280, either one will blow you away!
Awesome for a 29cc! May I recommend the Rovan 2 speed transmission? Pain to install (diff comes apart), but imagine having faster out of the hole, and maybe 10+ mph on top end- all with the same motor/pipe! And the sound of slamming second gear is too cool! I have 2 speeds on 3 of my fifth scale gassers.
That’s cool looking RC. Looks like it’s a beast. I just picked up a used eBay special VLX slash 2nd for another project. It’s my first slash. Paid $140 for it with no controller. I had an extra. It has some wear but it runs good. Been looking over your series for ideas.
I have two of each traxxas nitro 😂 they all still work I’ve been bashing and racing for like 25 years I quit smoking so I have to have something to do with my hands
@@RCKnockout I wanna buy a RC car like this, i want it to be a Baja 5 not sure what type to buy is this a Baja 5B ! are there other models and what is your recommendation for me if i like to go all in.
The finniky Traxass engines aren't exactly a shining beacon of light, even by nitro engine standards. They were at the worst end of the spectrum IMO. The 2.5 engines were highly stressed, with a narrow tuning window and prone to over-heating issues. No such issues on the big block engines, which had far more grunt and were much more tolerant and better suited to newcomers. All the Traxass owners at our large club had difficulty with their engines and tuning, compounded by Traxass recommending the awful 'Blue Thunder' fuel. No wonder people gave up! I had awesome performance and reliability from my RB WS7 in my Mugen buggy and STS 32 engine in my Savage, using Tornado 25% nitro and others. 👍
I have a 5t 2.0 but I also want a buggy should have gotten a rovan when it was 300 bucks now it’s over priced do you think hpi Baja 5b is better than the rovan I might get the hpi for the name since the price is now similar, thanks for the video
I do think that the authentic HPI is better overall but the Rovan and King Motor machines do seem to be alright quality too…..I’ve used a lot of their parts when authentic parts were hard to find
My 15 year old 5B SS, CY Fuelie 26cc, does 49mph, 0-40mph in 2.78 secs on 17/57, using the curly SS pipe. You can see it in my video, complete with onboard footage. 👍
Ive been so tempted to buy one but whats stopping me is why are they so slow and unresponsive? I guess Im just not used to gas powered RC's as Ive never owned one. Can you gear them up easily enough? They look absolutely unreal but just too slow to what Im used to. Great video btw, I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it! You can gear it up but the acceleration will take a hit…it’s never gonna be as responsive as a brushless rc… but the engine sounds can’t be beat
It's all relative - 50 mph is quite fast for vehicles of this size and weight. No - they're not as fast as brushless 1/8th scales, but that's not really what gassers are about. What I will say though, is that rear-engined, 2wd drive buggies at this scale are challenging to drive. My Baja 5B SS is very responsive and nice and light (comparatively for 1/5th), despite strategic use of alloy. It requires a surprising amount of finesse but it's so much fun to drive because it's demanding. My brushless Sworkz T2E and Corally XTR are more stable and extremely rapid, but I find them all fun to drive in different ways. 👍 The beauty of gassers is how straightforward they are to operate out on the field Vs lipos and battery management, power supplies and charging. You mix a gallon of 2 stroke and fuel up - 30 minutes of run time per tank. So long as your Transmitter and Receiver packs are good - fill your boots! 💪👍
45mph is great for stock gearing i would have guessed around 40 - 45 even though it has a different motor. I think these gas vehicles are pretty cool but i might stay on electric since it's less work and it's mostly cheaper. But that's just my opinion i still think gas rc's are cool and i wish i had the space and money to run one.
@@RCKnockout I agree it is easier to run electric rc's vs gas. But i don't think Nitro compares to gas or electric when it comes to maintenance and running.
Nitro isn’t as bad as people think. If you don’t know how to tune them it may be difficult to operate but if you know how to tune them and your getting the best out of your nitro and if it has a flawless tune it’s so much fun ;) I have 3 nitros an Hpi savage x 4.6, tmaxx 2.5 with a 2.5r engine, and a nitro slash 3.3 unfortunately the tmaxx and savage never got time to get tuned properly because I always broke something before getting to the tuning :(
I thought it was pointless getting nitros in the past when I didn’t know how to tune them and thought I had to constantly mess around to get it running but after I was taught more about them I got more nitros and to be honest tuning them is very easy (with most nitros) u just turn the highspeed needle clockwise to lean it if it’s too rich 1/8 of a turn at a time or if it’s too lean turn it 1/8 of a turn anticlockwise to richen it (same with the low speed needle
I thought because of the Monster energy graphics it would do 46mph 🤦♂️ lol! I'm gonna switch to Rockstar 😂👍 I like the black. I have a all black 5b I call black beauty... ✌️😎👍
i started 23cc 2hp then 30.5cc 2.5hp then looked at g270,g320,45cc rovan, even 70cc nothing made over 7hp so I decided lets go mental & ffitted a 29cc ported 10hp reed valve motor with 22k rpm limit & 60mph gears ...it power wheelies to top speed hahah
Thx for the great vid Nolan that’s awesome you got 45 out of stock gearing. Nice rig

A 29.5 SCZ Billet Reed engine revs at over 20k rpm and produces around 9hp - for £300. 👍

2wd - came with Proline Rear shocks, a-bunch of new aluminum parts for it , and two bodies.

Sounds like a good opportunity for some father son time.
what about the 2 speed OR 3 speed conversion kit.. ? i recon it'd be a lot faster :)

How much is a new, unstarted HPI Baja 5 b in the RTR D Box 2 version worth today?
Honestly I’m not sure…they started making the Baja in a kit again so that would probably have an effect on the price
And with other type of gasoline can be a different speed?
It might make a little bit of difference
