Furthermore my engine only idles with the LSN at half a turn out. I know that’s crazy for a Walbro carb. You would think it’s too lean. So either it’s note getting enough air or….? Good day there. Thank you so much for watching. I am really glad that this video could help. It does sound like something in your carb needs replacing but not too serious. Luckily these carbs are reliable and easily fixed. Hope it gets you up and running very soon.
Excellent video! I do have a situation with my 5b baja that I just purchased. I'm leaning towards either incorrect linkage setup for throttle & brake or incorrect setting with my radio? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Hi there. The options you mentioned is definitely possible but it is also possible that the intake manifold is loose and everytime you put pressure on it by applying throttle it opens the gap allowing air in and spikes the rpm.
@EZR thank you for your fast reply. I had not thought of that, but the loose intake does make total sense. I have the throttle linkage setup to when I give it full throttle with radio, I can still slightly move the throttle with my finger (so the servo isn't under strain). The FlySky GT3C radio, which is not "hacked", I think its setup correctly but not 100% sure. I will check the intake. It's crazy how the buggy will go from sitting idling to what sounds like at least 3/4 throttle....it takes off fish tailing. Lol. Hopefully the intake is loose and can easily be tightened. Thanks for your suggestion.

@@EZR thankyou very much I’ll give that a try once the weather clears up! How do I check that the throttle servo is putting strain on the carb if it is? Sorry for the questions haven’t had a petrol Rc for a long time now so getting back into it.
No. Definitely not. In the last couple years we have found that it makes no difference. Only needed thing is to seat the ring with good oil like Castor and run a slow 1st tank to make sure the bearings and seals receive good lube without too much heat.
After years of testing I have come to believe that the 2-stroke engine doe not need break in per say. Just a easy first tank and there after give it hell. Keep the fuel ratio right and tuning a little rich.
Just run is nice and easy and make sure it's warm before you pulloff. No need to let it idle for long periods of time. You might need to tune it a bit as it warms up. Most important is ensuring the inner filter is oiled and you have the right fuel/oil mix.

question. my brand new 290rc ran fine first 2 breakin tanks at stock settings (super rich) but now i cant get it to idle without turning the idle screw in like as much as your "standard 1 full turn out from bottom".. is this normal? for them to change this drastically from first few heat cycles?
@@claudekim7876 thanks for reaching out. Every car is very diverse. It is normal yes. It if you are running the Rofun 1107 it could mean more so. Those carbs within the same model is very diverse. If you motor is idling and running but the car does not go forward there is something wrong the clutch or gears. Will need to take the clutch bell off to check if everything is still in order.
Okay, you will have to take the SpurGear(big one) off and see if everything is spinning freely. Check pinion and main gear. If everything is spinning free then your clutch is engaging too high. @@EZR I did that earlier. My new issue is that the thing has no power under load. I can hold the car back with my foot no problem even after swapping the clutch
It might just be the ring. Best to strip the engine. Check the ring and bearings. Dont swop the bearings if they not wonky. Worn bearings are nice and loose. It normally takes 5x tanks of fuel to get those bearings loose.

Turn the idle screw in just a bit. Also check that the throttle servo is not putting strain on the carb shaft. It will wear it out very fast.
@@EZR thankyou very much I’ll give that a try once the weather clears up! How do I check that the throttle servo is putting strain on the carb if it is? Sorry for the questions haven’t had a petrol Rc for a long time now so getting back into it.
Basically when you pull the brake the spring on the brake should stop moving before the spring on the throttle link
@@EZR Ok I will check it, and if it is straining the carb how do I go about fixing it? Thankyou for everything, highly appreciated!!
@@madnessgamingv479 the limits on the controller, turn them in until servo arm moves and the throttle doesn't
I just replace a new engine to my baja 5t and I want to put my carb settings to factory then break in to the new engine, please help
Just apply my base settings I mention in this video but make sure your High end Needle is at least 1&½ then run the first tank half throttle. Done 👍
@EZR so I don't have to run the car 5 tanks to break in and idle can I keep it same
No. Definitely not. In the last couple years we have found that it makes no difference.
Only needed thing is to seat the ring with good oil like Castor and run a slow 1st tank to make sure the bearings and seals receive good lube without too much heat.
@@EZR ok thank you
Just a question. I am gonna break in a new engine 32cc. What’s the best temp before I shut it down for a cool down Thanxs
After years of testing I have come to believe that the 2-stroke engine doe not need break in per say. Just a easy first tank and there after give it hell. Keep the fuel ratio right and tuning a little rich.
Ok Thanxs
@@EZRyea mines still new in plastic haven't had a chance 2 do anything. So run 3 tanks of gas an I should b gd huh
Just run is nice and easy and make sure it's warm before you pulloff. No need to let it idle for long periods of time.
You might need to tune it a bit as it warms up. Most important is ensuring the inner filter is oiled and you have the right fuel/oil mix.
@@EZR thanx you 👍🏻
Hi, I can’t get my baja to start what so ever, I’ve checked the spark plug gives a spark, I’ve even gotten a new walbruro carb, I tried a roto start, its just dead,
Took the head off cleaned everything with petrol, piston and sleve still good, put it back together, still nothing.
Howzit John.
It sounds like the sparkplug. I know you checked but I would suggest replacing it. Bogus plugs still spark sometimes.
@@EZR Okay thanks I’ll give it a try.
Hi I installed a brand new 990 carb on a 30cc. Now she won’t start at all it’s like no fuel even getting in to the engine. I have tried everything. Low speed needle 1 1/8th turn and high 1 1/4 turn. What should I do thanks
I'm running exactly the same at the moment. It's the chokeless one right?
When I tune a new one I leave the High end on 1%½ and start the Low end at 1turn. Then i give it 5pulls. It no fire then I open the Low end ¼turn and repeat the process. Once you reach 2turns and no fire, then something else is wrong.
Thanks for getting back to me. And yes it’s the choke less one. So I took it apart blew 10w 40 through every hole. One of the holes was clogged. Put it all back together put it back on the Engine. And bam she fired up That’s a few carbs now I have bought and there has been issues. Thanks again
@@larryguest6468I’m having carb issues. One of my carbs is blocking air. One of my carbs is blocking fuel. Can you describe what you did more “blow 10w40” through every hole” how did you do this? I do have synthetic motor oil for my motorbike but not sure how to blow oil. Air compressor or what?
question. my brand new 290rc ran fine first 2 breakin tanks at stock settings (super rich) but now i cant get it to idle without turning the idle screw in like as much as your "standard 1 full turn out from bottom".. is this normal? for them to change this drastically from first few heat cycles?
@@claudekim7876 thanks for reaching out. Every car is very diverse. It is normal yes. It if you are running the Rofun 1107 it could mean more so. Those carbs within the same model is very diverse. Question for you: is the big idle screw all the way in? The important part is having a good running car that smokes a little once hot. It will smoke more when cold. This is normal.
@@EZR its a 990 carb. Yea screw isnt all the way in but it is decently in. Id say 1.5 or 2 turns out. The stock needle setting (1 1/8 L and 1 5/8 H) makes my car run super rich. Tho i think this is the fault of the 2 stroke oil im using. I changed it to amsoil dom yesterday and it smokes far less and seems to idle way higher now.. (even after heating up).
Im just confused cuz some ppl say you should back the idle out all the way and then move it till it just starts moving thr butterfly. But then everyone else ive spoke to says to screw it in all the way and back it out 1 or 2 turns to start...
@@claudekim7876 I have owned and tuned these cars for more than 10years. I am one of five 5th scale automotive technicians in South Africa and 99% of all cars I turn the idle screw in all the way and don't touch it again. Especially the 990 because it needs a very righ low end to start reliably. Trust me on this. Set your idle with the Low End Needle not the ideal screw
@@claudekim7876 you ever figure out which method works better for you? Also struggling to get my 290rc running right
Hi I tried tuning now it wont move but it revs really really high how can I fix this
If you motor is idling and running but the car does not go forward there is something wrong the clutch or gears.
Will need to take the clutch bell off to check if everything is still in order.
@@EZR but it does go forward just need to rev it so much for it to
Okay, you will have to take the SpurGear(big one) off and see if everything is spinning freely. Check pinion and main gear. If everything is spinning free then your clutch is engaging too high. Either it's too tight or the spring is a high RPM spring.

So it's right turn to richen and left turn to lean ? Is that right
i picked up a km baja with a rovan engine
That's cool. If you wanna upgrade it at some point, stick KM Cylinder on the existing Rovan crankcase. Lots more power. Just stick to the same CC
I have a Rovan 45cc Baja and a WLT.🙃
🔥That is awesome. Hope they bring plenty Playtime!🏎️💨
My idle is crazy high if I don’t back off the idle screw. Whats wrong with my carb?
Nothings wrong. It's all good.
You have to open the Low End Needle till the RPMs are where you want them.
@@EZR I did that earlier. My new issue is that the thing has no power under load. I can hold the car back with my foot no problem even after swapping the clutch
Sounds like a Piston/Ring/Sleeve issue. There's no compression, so no Torque
@@EZR that’s what I was fearing. Would it be best to do a top end and maybe replace the crank bearings? 26cc
It might just be the ring. Best to strip the engine. Check the ring and bearings. Dont swop the bearings if they not wonky. Worn bearings are nice and loose. It normally takes 5x tanks of fuel to get those bearings loose.
The easiest way to tune an RC engine is to remove it from toy and install a brushless system.
@@rmb1 😂. That'll get you going. Good idea. But I generally like to play longer than 20minutes.
Hello my spark goes black very quickly and I’m finding that I’m replacing it more than I should could that be because it’s to Rich and if so am I safe to go back to default settings like u showed and opened both high end and low end 1.25 turns out will that be sufficient until I get going
If the car is already running fine but the plug is dark. You can just close the High end 1/8 of a turn.
This sucks glad I moved to battery rc cars
Hi there. I think all options have their pros and cons. I just like playing until I had enough, not until a battery dies.
I hate 2strok engines in Rc . Never ever start esely . Install new carby .if start struggle to run . Rubbish 2strok engine jus wasting money.
I am so sorry about your experience. It is possible to have a lot of issues with a 2 stroke but once all the problems have been identified, fixed and maintained the engine can run non stop. Wish I was close to give you a hand.
Yeah troubleshooting is very frustrating.
But if all is good/proper they start very easily.
If not it's means somethings wrong, carb settings, air leak, bad plug are the most common things. Unfortunately a lot can go wrong with engine to not start or run right
