    Comment after comment about the price, stock sitting at dealerships, impracticality, target market and who would buy them? Reality is, nobody. I’m glad I could enjoy watching the experience while having a coffee and not having to worry about a $100,000 10,000 lb chunk of metal and batteries stuck in the woods. Great vid by the way guys! Keep up the cool reviews and real world testing.

  • @mattg8116
    @mattg8116 8 часов назад +6

    I don't understand why a locker (even if virtual) is needed at all for something like this. If you have independent motors for every axle then you can already drive every axle in default mode. You can also tie the motor speed to steer angle very easily to not only allow differential motion, but to offer perfect differential motion. Imagine being locked thru a turn without forced binding or slip, but every tire still providing full torque. Seems like this would be easier than trying to mimic a real differential by having one motor cut out when the other motor loses torque, and then adding an additional mode to "lock" them together.

    • @TheJohn8765
      @TheJohn8765 4 часа назад +1

      That would take programming skill, something which also lacks in Tesla and Rivian. Meanwhile, other manufacturers like Porsche have highly effective torque vectoring thru their e-diffs (which is at least in the same ballpark). Guess it comes down to how much money manufacturers are willing to invest in software development... And expectations for the owner being a beta-tester.

    My neighbor had his SUV version of this parked on the street for a few weeks while his driveway was getting redone and every time I walked the dog by it, my main impression was that is was just huge - and that was with it looking like it was sitting on its bump stops. I get that it’s a technological tour-de-force, but it just seems so, so big, that it feels like much more of a statement than an actually useful vehicle.

    • @TroySavary
      @TroySavary 11 часов назад

      The rear virtual locker doesn't lock both wheels as you see in the video.
      It doesn't split the torque 50/50 between the front and rear axle, just look when they tried razer rocks. If it locked 50/50 that obstacle would have been much easier.
      At 100% throttle the vehicle didn't move or spin all 4 tires.
      I would 100% call that crappy.

    • @TroySavary
      @TroySavary 9 часов назад

      @perpelle Yes, that was a problem with Rivian's virtual lockers too until the software got tweaked. But with the front lockers on, it still cleared the obstacle. So it didn't fail.
      I would probably choose the two motor version to get two physical lockers, since the track performance benefits of tri motor torque vectoring and the faster 1/4 from the extra power would not matter to me in a vehicle like this.

    • @perpelle
      @perpelle 9 часов назад

      @@TroySavary I still haven't seen a rivian that can power all 4 wheels at the exact same speed in different obstacles.
      Don't think that's going to happen when you have 3/4 motors.
      One in each axle with mechanical lockers seems to be the way to go IF they can figure out the 50/50 torque split between the axles.
      Calling this hummer twin/triple locked is a marketing scam.

    Very impressive, a F250 limited couldn't do that. Wish Hummer offered this with the 6.6 gas engine for 80k.

    People are also forgetting a lot of this test was on ice. It doesn’t look like they aired down either. But that being said, kind of sad when something that looks that bada** with what is supposed to be 1000 hp, can’t get up those rocks at full “throttle”. Something just isn’t right when there’s no wheel spin at full throttle and 1000 hp and the vehicle is just sitting there.

    Wow, they made it way too complicated to engage the various modes. The average driver will never figure that out. There should be a simple “I’m stuck, give me all the traction” button. Or even better, why can’t it just figure it out for you and not require “modes”?

    I really think the Hummer EV is not a good off-road rig especially for $120,000 price tag.

    Maybe read the owners manual. Quirks is operator error. Make reading the manual part of your work schedule prior to video taping a RUclips clip

    If Chevy made a standard cab Colorado with the 310 hp 4 with a manual 6 speed tranny and 2 wd with a limited slip rear end I would trade my 07 Colorado 4wd in right now. My 07 Colorado with 5 cyl. 4wd is a great truck, 150,000 miles but I have never had to use the 4wd here on Maui except once to pull my mail box up straight after a fool ran into it.

    Even with all this torque, these things act sometime like a subaru with cvt transmission... Wide open throttle and almost no sliping tires even on slippy rocks...😂

    I think they make it like that to get the lockers on so that they aren't turned on accidently, which on dry roads in a gas truck can damage things. That said I don't like electric vehicles whether car, truck or motorcycle

    New vehicle computers killing power is just why I can’t wheel this new stuff. 1,000 horsepower , Tommy saying he’s wide open throttle and the tires spinning at 2mph. Come on, that’s just silly.

    By the way, no spare tire for 120k?
    9,000 lb curb weight??
    Actually it won’t really matter, at that price point the only people that will drive these things are professional athletes and the celebrity elite. 99% of these ridiculous “trucks” will never drop a wheel off road anyway.
