Thanks for the in-depth on the 250. It's on my short list and your real life testing is 1000% more valuable than your basic car reviewer's nonsense! Thanks 🙏
Thanks Ronnie with your great and unbiased opinion. I am looking forward to the journey and fit out of the 250, as my Altitude is ready for pickup early January, replacing my trusty 120 Prado that has provided great reliability and adventures over the last 18 years. Still thinking of keeping the old girl or giving it to my daughter that loves this car. For most people that use this car 90% as a daily driver and 10% adventure, tires and a lift is all they will required for most people to enjoy seeing places not accessible to most. To others the sky is the limit for an all-rounder. I will look forward to keeping up the stigma of people seeing the Prado in places you would not expect.
It’s the ‘250 series’ in the Landcruiser family tree. If Toyota never slapped the ‘Prado’ name plate and just left it as the 120/150 this never would’ve been an argument
Great review Ronny and welcome to the informed peeps Prado fan club 😂 We’ve owned a stock 150 for 12 years except for after market Kaon bash plates and recovery points. Mid this year took it on a month long Central Australian trip including across the Simpson then drive back to central Victoria. It did the Simmo and rocky tracks in the NT no worries (yes it did find the bash plates a few times). Then 1800km of highway each way to/from home. Capable and comfortable And yes, it can be used to cart kids and pick up the shopping ‘cos it fits in car parks Says it’s a Land Cruiser on the back 🤷♂️ Edit: Re why both crawl and diff lock? Ours has both. Crawl sucks for going up sand dune - you need more momentum. Crawl is good for technical rocky stuff. The 150 in L1 has enough engine braking for downhill.
In WA, 75mm lift including suspension and tyres together. Anything outside this needs an Engineering certificate. 2" suspension lift means only 1" bigger tyres. This is because it could interfere with the Vehicles ESC and safety on road. This is the case in QLD and Mr Google has told me WA has same laws regarding suspension and tyres.
It looks like a vehicle that you can drive a 1000km in a day and still be able to walk around camp ⛺afterwards we used to say don't try and make a sports cars out of a tractor now that seems to be reversed and people are making tractors 🚜from comfortable touring vehicles. I bought a 2.8 Troopy because I wanted a simpler and rugged car that can go most places without mods that would see the warranty disappear out the rear view mirror.
We only have the 2.4L petrol in the philippines. I want to think of it as a better variant. No batteries= less weight. No electric engine to think about being broken down on trails. While it is down on hp, we do have sports+ on ride mode. If still lagging, hope to have a remap sort the "underpowered sort of" engine
It's a Landcruiser, I've seen it and it's definitely there. Rip of 12 hour days on the road and still being this capable completely stock. Let's keep it real, there's not much to compete
A number of the comments make reference to how it would compare with the Grenadier. You have had both, so how about a comparison......even if it is just a sit down talk about how they compare. A lot of people would say the Grenadier is too expensive, so would be interesting to hear your views on how they compare straight off the showroom floor and then also how much it would cost to get them to same/similar capability.
It was lucky that you had two camera angles set up when you hit that rock on the side step. If it wasn’t recorded from different angles it could have looked “planned”
Hey I been enjoying your adventures. Got me interested in off road driving a lot. Keep em coming. I am hoping you could do a bit of a review on a new Ford Everest Tremor? There is little to no info about this one and I really would like to know what you think of it.
No matter the brand, all speedos shows up to 5% more than the actual speed. This is to lower the speed of everybody and save lives and make injuries in case of an accident. This is standard all over the world. @Ronny Dahl As you put larger tires on your top speed will decrease. What’s your thoughts on that?
This is funny, I just went from Harry's Garage review on this truck to Ronny's... Harry always does great reviews based on his experience driving them around the UK green lanes for a few months. His reviews are excellent. But it's pretty clear who is the best long term reviewer of off road vehicles on youtube right now. Great vid mate, you're the legit source of real reviews... Harry is for those rich blokes who lease them for a year lol

When are you gonna do a review on some nuggets? Stuff under 5-10k? Mazda bravo nuggetry would be fun to watch, lol!
Having traded my 150 Prado in on a 300, I’d say the 250 is not like either. It should have been called something else. Other than the tech, I would rather have my 2022 150 Kakadu, or if you want a real Landcruiser, then it’s the 300 without doubt. The 300’s v6 has grunt! However, reliability remains to be seen.
why not 35s on +40 offset wheels . i have it and it only required the front wheel mudflaps to be slightly adjusted to be fit with no rubbing even on crazy whoops and rock trails.
No it isn’t. Not even remotely how it works. It legally must not display a speed slower then what you are actually doing but can have a fudge factor up to I believe 5% but that may have changed. Motor bikes have a larger factor.
Hi! To me that is a Land Cruiser however …. Is the 300 series the Land Cruiser ? What’s the difference between those two ?both cars got the same frame , and not as tough as 70/80/ 100 series …. The only big difference is the engine - 2.8/3.3.. The sway bar disconnect is just the newer technology thing added. So if don’t thing if the 250 Land Cruiser is the Cruiser or Prado as much as the 300 series is the real tough truck that will last as long as 70/80/100 series.
The 200 series has a significantly larger and stronger chassis than a 70 series. This includes the axles, diffs and running gear. The 300 series chassis is 20% more ridged over the 200 series.
It's more Landcruiser than Prado. I think they'll take sales away from the 300 series but have made a mistake making it almost as big. The old 150 was perfect for most fa,ilies and great on the high country tracks and in the outback. A newer version of the 150 would have been a better option and would compete better against the new Everest.
Making subsequent models a little bigger is a thing manufacturers have been doing for 30+ years. compare a 70's corolla with a new one, etc etc. Don't know if a 300 series is actually bigger than a 200, but it looks bigger. Psychology in marketing.
A thought that occurred to me Ronny is a what point would the Grenadier make more sense for where your headed mod’s & capabilities wise? I mean wrt to expense and outlay to improve it to what you want? You’ve already mentioned GVM upgrade etc, no doubt UBP etc And is it more that you have to learn a different way of thinking and driving for the Grenadier than the Prado? Looking and planning ahead to setup the vehicle etc (diff locks, tyre position and line, momentum points etc
An interesting review, but not interesting enough to make me buy one. I think it is ugly!! As for the Wheel and Tire Size, im curious to see how this does with 34's. Im suspect it is a bad idea, but it doesn't meant others wont make it happen. Too many times i will see individuals here in the US with a underpowered Taco running 37's and complaining anout snapping CV's. As for the thoughts on 18 inch wheels? Coming from one of your previous videos on recommendations for Tore Size and Wheel Size, i found that for most individuals an 18 isnt too bad. Of course if you can get a amaller wheel to work, then go with the smaller wheel. Now i will also state an advantage of going with an 18 over a 16 for my particular vehicle (2012 D40 Frontier). The original tire was a 265/75-16(aka 32's). Now im running 265/70-18's(aka 33's). I choose that over a 285/75-16 due to not having to make modifications to the Fender well and the fact I can run Bogger Brakes to help stop the vehicle. Also keeping the same tire width can help with Fuel Consumption vs a wider tire.
Because we get the 300 series here, it can only ever be a Prado. But it’s the closest that a Prado has been to the full-Monty LC looking at core dimensions and tech.
The only reason it was named a Prado was to compete with the Pajero. That’s why it’s a 250 SERIES. It’s literally part of the Landcruiser family tree even if it’s rated as the softer variant
IMHO, it's a prado. I have owned and driven my 1988 LC FJ62 for 36 years. I test drove the new "Land Cruiser" expecting an improved version of my cruiser. But I realized immediately, this was not my rugged, simple Land Cruiser. It was a just another SUV. I bought a Grenadier instead.
@lastknownlocation8760 it should have the V6 to be a LandCruiser. For many reasons, one factor is the price! I don't understand making a big 4x4 with a motor that is not adequate. People like to modify to go off road which most of the time adds weight. The 70 is a slug.
LOL My 20 year old stock RAV4 has more ground clearance. On stock sized road tires. You may have corrected your speedo but the Odometer will be wrong. The speedo is deliberately set optimistic by 5kmh in modern cars however the odometer will be out as they are set spot on for the factory tire size. Does it matter?
Exterior design is ok, the rest is already outdated. This "mild hybrid" is a total joke - recipe for disaster. For the boot design - the designer should be banned for life

TopGear made a comparison with the LC250, Defender, G-Wagon and Grenadier recently, worth a watch in my POV ruclips.net/video/6WDk8ueDqG8/видео.html
Given all the money needed to be spent on improvements, would the grenadier be more cost effective?

Given that 90percent of 4x4s sold in Australian dont even leave the bitumen. I think it held up well.
