metfan4l Dude your channel is the best channel... You upload so many (full) Metallica videos and audio recordings... And the fact that you upload regularly is awesome
Also how do you find all these videos and clips?
Living Death This show is from the new master of puppets box set
the country club was the spot for a lot of metal back in the day
I think Newsted passed the test...
Joseph Gallegos I grew up in San Fernando and the country club had some killer bands play there. I was here at this concert Metallica was awesome but OMG Flotsam came on and ripped the place to pieces. I thank the country club for all the awesome concerts. I was at every Lizzy Borden concert ever played there too that was cool
Ahhh, before he FOCKING left the band
He FOCKING joined the band!
@whatever 111 and he was fockin' RIGTH!! it's not necessary to make a stadium full for be a ROCKER
he never stops to do music, and some music's (i love mister trujillo) shark wait and play well!
sorry for my french, i'm anglish.......
whatever 111 PERIOD! EXCLAMATION POINT
Joel Xapelli In all honesty, I’m not dissapointed one tiny bit that we got Robert, he’s a fucking beast! Although I miss Jason
WHEN THE FOCK DID WE TURN INTO THE BAD GUYS
25:07 Apparently it was also Kirk Hamster's first (and last) gig
God, I miss that guy...😔
LMAO 🤣
He did this in many shows
💀
8:16 the irony in that sentence is strong...
Tbh James and Jason at times seemed like brothers, the one that was the douche was Lars like he was the responsible of the missing bass on AJFA
Agent HUNK Kirk and James did nothing and this was a decision that had to be done by the whole band not just Lars, even so James was just as responsible as Lars it was their idea, Kirk was the only one that treated Jason with respect.
It's not irony, he is just lying 😂🤥
@@adrianfong5783 I would admit James was also a douche but he was at least really friendly with Jason on stage but if you see with Lars he barely even reaches Jason or shows preoccupation with him aside from the "He fucking left the band" and James did show preoccupation with Jason even though it was kinda rough but if we are talking about proper respect, yes Kirk was the only one that showed it properly to Jason.
Agent HUNK that doesn’t make it any better that just makes James seem like a bigger snake it’s no use to show everybody “oh look me and Jason are buddies “ then completely treat him like shit off stage, Either way Metallica sucks ass nowadays lmao
My psychiatrist: European James Hetfield isn't real, he can't hurt you...
European James Hetfield: 8:34
HAHAH this is super funny, I clicked ahead thinking "This must be some blood curdling scream I am about to hear", instead... expectations subverted in a very good way :D

**Akward bass intro**
*Monty Python James
Fuck man. For Whom the Bell tolls is like 60 % faster lol. Dudes need to lay off the cocaine and meth lol. hahahaha
Holy crap this show was brutal. So fast. Insane
Yeah it was. I think they were taking all their anger and Pain from Cliff's death out on the guitars and drums
Not the bass intro from for whom the bell tolls. That tone is thinner than an anorexic.
Cocaine
Check out the live video of them playing in Canada in 87 during this tour. If forget the city, but it'll be at the top of the list. Makes this show seem slow. This is still insane though.
@@Metal4Life56 Toronto 1986
You can just hear and feel the pain and anger they all have from Burton. This was basically right after his death. It's really sad.
Yep. they sound very PISSED OFF playing to the hardest. James was actually about to kill the one driving the bus that drove Cliff to death.
Corozal De los Ochenta hmm, I thought Kirk was as well
ericj305 😂😂 maybe listen to some metal then, most have anger.
ericj305 yeah I know, I did say that and did all the attributing lol. Just a comment, k don't care either way. But it did heavily impact them, so.. they didn't really just move on with their lives however long this was after
ericj305 that's honestly all true. I used to be a huge Metallica fan but slowly lost interest. You have a fair point, they do. But however they still mention him, and honor him because he helped with getting the band started and help write most the songs that set them off. But yeah they replaced him a month or so lol, I don't know
The show had to go on, but in doing so the guys didn't properly mourn and Jason paid a heavy price. It was not until Jason left the band when we got to know how it was when Jason got into the band. The other guys admitting they developed some resentment towards Jason for replacing Cliff and also admitting they were never fair to him, the worst of all being that of killing Jason's bass mix in ... And Justice For All. Whatever Jason did was never good enough, especially for James, who always shut his ideas down and even said that Jason being a huge fan of the band didn't help either, it made Jason more annoying. But Jason was the ultimate professional and took it all like a champ, I'm sure he has no regrets.
well said.
Nice comment. Too bad Metallica decided to go full commercial. AJFA was their last great album as far as I’m concerned.
@@texasturner2313 I agree
@@texasturner2313 black album was awesome lmfao, any true metallica fan would tell you
At least Jason composed the blackened riff
If this is Jason's first show, he really did his homework.
That's what professionals do. Try it sometime.
@@maximusmax4557 And you should try learning manners
Jason somehow got ahold of Metallica’s entire live set list and learned it for his audition.
@@maximusmax4557 why so aggressive?
Everything is good at home?
mtf is a machine!!! fuck yeah!
It will never cease to amaze me how Jason Newsted walked into a completely impossible situation, like trying to put out a house fire while being swarmed by angry hornets. He did a hell of a job, though, and you could make the case that he held that damn band together when those late 86 dates could have torn them apart at the seams.
He did. He absolutely saved them. He deserved much better treatment then what he got.

Dark Link and what about now 31 years after?
gandhy12 i wish i knew...
I think if he had any idea of the crap storm he would have to live in while in metallica he would have passed. Not knowing, you have to go for it.
I think he would have still done it. I would have. A huge Metallica fan, an even bigger Cliff Burton fan...no way would anyone pass it up even though you knew you were going to be hazed non-stop for the next 15 years or so
@@WarcraftIsForVirgins I agree with you man. Id have signed up too. What a chance to be famous. Flotsam and Jetsam wasn't going anywhere.
32:27 best moment
Crude yet effective.
39:21 that bass line so good
8:18 I know that James was thinking about Cliff
Damn. This was 6 weeks after Cliff's death. It's like a release of anger. Lars always plays so fast that the other guys can barely keep up, but he was REALLY fast this night.
But what's amazing is that he's fast, but also solid and on point. Whereas these days he'll be fast but sloppy.
Jason could keep up all day.
Kirk was shredding it that night too...

Fury... This is what losing a friend does to a band as Metallica.
Phillip Pergens No, this is what youth, hunger and alcohol sounds like. They sounded like this with Cliff aswell.
@@mathiasthelander7834 Listen to James around 8:14. His voice goes all shaky and he stops talking for a good 6 seconds, until he can shake off the feelings welling up from inside and suppress them. That sounds like someone grieving to me.

Also, the way he tells himself "I am gonna have some fucking fun tonight", just as if he is struggling to have fun at that point.
HE FOCKING JOINED THE BANd
I was supposed to see Metallica with Cliff on the 8th of August, 1986 at The Concert Hall in Toronto but that show was cancelled along with a few other dates. It looks like it was rescheduled for November the 7th at Maple Leaf Gardens. Then Cliff was killed on the 27th of September in Sweden. So I ended up seeing Metallica with Jason "Newkid" on the 9th of December 1986 ; ) He got a better hairstylist not long after joining Metallica.
Now I see this first show with Jason was the day after I was supposed to see Metallica with Cliff at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Do you happen to remember any technical difficultes at the show?
At least you were in the Longed Haired Jason Era.
I had tickets to a show in NY Poughkeespie in 86. Show of course was cancelled, and I couldn't make the rescheduled show.
Saw them 2 years later.
@@xxEzraBxxx No. The entire concert was filmed. A bootleg. There's a bunch of RUclips channels that uploaded the video years ago. One shows something that had to do with what happened before the concert.

fuck yeah! but nowadays he's just singing
of course he is singing here; but completely different of what he's doing today. if you pay attention to his interviews he states that at this time he was shouting and dont know why or how people likes it !!!!!!
tom fallon after a while he probably lost his voice after the Black album. But I totally agree I do want his old voice back🤟
@@DojimaLmao Probably? It did really happen, I believe James once said it was after the "So What!" Cover.
He was mad young back then and threw out his voice on the black album tour. He had a rough childhood and took the aggression out doing that so after awhile im sure he got it all out and since theyre wealthy, not as stressed either so all their aggressiveness is really gone
James becomes emotional introducing Jason instead of Cliff before For Whom the Bell Tolls
thrashix123 "here is a new fucker" :)
He's not "emotional", he's just winded from playing Master Of Puppets, you fucking dorks.
Thank you!
it's cool how you can't read emotions at all. Maybe one day!
Again Lars takes control here. This was Cliff's signature song so he starts it at 100 miles an hour to make sure it's very different to Cliff's
Definitely everyone wanted to sound louder than the other... Angry in James's voice is so brutal... What a good times!
Where do you think that anger comes from? this is like right after cliff's death.. but yeah, he sounds brutal here
It's scarry how many times James had to sing "die" right after Cliff's death, especially in for whom the bell tolls and horsemen, he even had to stop singing a couple of times.
James´voice contains too much fury
Celso Canavesi must be from Cliff's death

LMAO
Lars had so much attack at this point. Age comes to us all.
And the lack of hunger.
It's not age, he stopped playing like this around 92-94
He stopped practicing, he's said it himself lmao
Hoglan, Lombardo, Bostaph, Hunting, et al are all about the same age and drum circles around Lars today.
Duper Super he reached his limit of his body, remember playing drums day in day out like he did takes its toll on your body, wrists, arms, knees, he had to come to a decision about the longevity of his career
Billy Ramirez gene hoglan was a fucking beast with death angel and Death.
I was front row for this show. I was so young - and they were too. There were moments that you could tell James, Lars or Kurt were having "moments" during the performance but they absolutely came to play that night and Jason was flawless (as were they all). I know all about rumors that he never really fit with the other 3 and that they never accepted him. That may be true to whatever extent, but that night, they played like they'd all been together the entire time. A lot of love & respect for Cliff in the room that night as well. It was supposed to be a "secret show" and I'm trying to remember how I found out about it but I grew up around there and it was the 80's. It could've come from a number of sources. Back then, usually when I should've been somewhere else, somehow I'd end in Hollywood seeing live shows at clubs, arenas and festivals. At any rate, this was a night I'll never forget! Thanks for posting!

Si Deering yeah, you’re right. Still a hell of a short time to mourn and audition bass players.
Brian Talbot They didn’t want to stop because they would have to process his passing, and they knew there would be no Metallica if they let reality set in. I think it’s what Cliff would have wanted.
km yeah, I agree. I’m just amazed they were able to audition bass players, choose Jason, rehearse all the songs and be able to jump back on tour so quickly.
At that moment, there were only 25 songs to learn. Imagine having to fill in now :-)

The Country Club was a great venue. I wish I could've seen Metallica there, but by the time I began going to shows there (1984), Metallica was already playing much bigger arenas (hence why this was a "secret show"). I saw Raven/Anthrax, Mercyful Fate/, and Slayer/D.R.I. at the Country Club in 1984 and '85. The last show I saw there was Soundgarden/VoiVod/Prong in 1990. The venue closed down shortly after that.
Jason was the man, he didn't give a fuck about anything, he just stood there and play like a savage.
Lars and Kirk fucking killing it here - this is why they were voted Best Metal Drummer and Best Metal Guitarist by multiple metal magazines numerous times throughout the 80's.

Unfortunately, it's a business. The show must go on as it goes
@@gabifrancis7414 They were 22-23 years old, James had no parents, they were renowned for their drinking, they managed to go from zero to practically the hottest thing in metal in a bit over 4 years, it was the 1980s, metal was macho, feelings were for weak people. There was literally no way these guys would have dealt with Cliffs death in a healthy manner.
Getting back in the saddle is actually a good way to help deal with grief. They insisted that Cliff would have wanted them to keep going and they fought through it with their music. If they'd quit it be like Cliff's death was meaningless and the band would have amounted to a 90s VH1 episode of "Whatever happened to".
I think the main reason was they didn't want to stop because they were afraid they'd never get back up and just let Metallica die.
Wow!
Holy shit this is probably the fastest I’ve ever heard them play live. They normally play faster but this is god speed
Awesome
God, they were so fucking ferocious back in the day.
My gosh, what a performance. So much emotional dysfunction (substance abuse, the pain of losing Cliff, the lashing out at Jason that marred his tenure with the band), and I'm certainly happy they've survived it and become who they are now, but what fire, what hunger, and what execution! Damage, Inc. with DOUBLE BASS! Ah, to be young again.
(and to preempt the inevitable ragging on Lars and the claims that he's just lazy and needs to keep up his chops a la Dave Lombardo, I would posit that his function in Metallica has been far more multifaceted than Dave's in Slayer - Dave is a consummate musician, while Lars is a musician who has had moments of exhilarating greatness but not the same work ethic over decades because of his growing interest and involvement in the business side of things, in addition to being a creative force that has kept the band's material fresh, innovative, and often exciting for the better part of three decades. I'm no St. Anger fan but Spit out the Bone and many other compositions on Hardwired...to Self-Destruct have found their way into my pantheon of all-time favorite 'Tallica tunes.)
So nice to see someone else giving Lars his props in a realistic manner. 👏👏👏
Imagine if creeping death was in this recording, I feel like James probably cried during that song
