Got up, fed the cats, stoked the fire, made a coffee, went online and surprise a new Memoryseekers, what a great start to my day.. I love steam trains, what a lovely little trip. Coincidently as I was watching a wheat train went past heading for the silos, fitted in very well. Cheers Cheryl 🙂

I can just picture Queen Victoria on her first train ride! So lovely and quiet! I used to hear the huge diesel engine of the "Coaster" commuter train every day as I got off the Trolley on my way to work Downtown. I find it interesting that we had an electric "cable car" system here in San Diego since 1892, but it fell out of favor. Then, in the early 1980s, people realized what I good idea it was. But nothing beats a romantic steam train for a lovely ride through the country. Thanks for the extra treat!

The hissing from the steam engine the click clack rolling down the track the creaking from the rail car and beautiful scenery straight ahead. If only I could afford a round trip flight from Amarillo Texas to England. I'd be there! I so enjoy you two showing us around beautiful locations. Thanks

YES!!! A heritage rail trip on a sunny day through the English countryside with just the natural sounds! Takes me back! 😊
Had a mate who used to crew on a local steamer out here so used to ride in the cab towing all the punters occasionally. All in the past now as we're both at the stage to need an end loader to get up in the cab. 😮‍💨

Hello, this was just an extended version of the same train ride we did in the Lynton and Lynmouth video a few weeks back, as a number of subscribers had asked to see more. I had covered all the narration and story of the railway in that video. When we edited the video it felt right to just have the sounds rather than cover the same information. 😊

L.T Catchpole did a lot of filming of British Narrow gauge railways which he preferred over the mainline railways. Heard about the L&B and drove his Dodge car which only had front drum brakes and no rear brakes towing his home made caravan and parked a field next to the railway which awoke him next morning. This was in the days when the Southern Railway ran the L&B. Catchpole had his own home cinema beneath his home where he would edit and show his railway films to like minded friends.
Sir George Newnes who paid for the building of the L&B lied to the people of Lynton and Lynmouth for he had a large home in Lynton called Holiday House, long since demolished. He'd seen what the GWR had done for Torquay in prosperity and didn't want that sort of thing in Lynton where he loved peace and tranquility. Sir George said that the railway proposals by the GWR and the LSWR were bogus but in fact his L&B was the bogus line built purely as a blocking move to stop the GWR and LSWR from building a line and bringing prosperity to the area. Why was the line built to a narrow gauge and why didn't it connect with the cliff railway because it wasn't there to be a benefit for the people just to stop others from building their own railways.
One of the preserved railway's founders Paul Gower managed to get access to previously unpublished documents that showed Sir George Newnes true intentions with the railway. The rolling stock is new for Lyn is a new engine as all the original engines were sold at Auction in Barnstaple in 1935.
