I am a train driver on the jacobite line I have driven that train nearly everyday it is the best job in the world
Amazing, that sounds like a really cool job!
You must be gutted at the current situation regarding the steam train. Diesel trains won't cut it, and tourism will suffer. Who wants to go out to glenfinnan to see a diesel locomotive.
Ur so lucky 😭
If you can’t get a ticket or it’s too expensive you can also take the Scot Rail diesel unit from Fort William to Mallaig. I’ve been in the diesel train a couple of times and the trip is spectacular.
I purchased 3 tickets and they were $ 54 each, it's not expensive.
@@patfowler5044 My 20-year old self in 1992 would have disagreed. Even then, before the Harry Potter movies, the steam train was too expensive for my student budget. So we took the normal train and the journey was still spectacular and memorable (as was the following visit to Skye).
Prefer the DMU over the Steam locomotive, Prefer diesels over steam i do
@@patfowler5044 hi. From which website did you buy them from because I’m seeing £150?
Expensive is totally in the eye of the beholder. $54 would have been a lot when I was younger. Lol then again, I'm balking at the prices is London hotels as I'm looking for good places to stay near the metro, close to city center, for under $200 a night so there's that!
This is quite a beautiful video. My father worked for a railroad for 25 years including the eras of steam and diesel power. As a kid the big black steam engines were by far my favorite! I hope I get to travel the route you showed us someday. Gorgeous!
Good luck! And thanks for watching!
My husband and I traveled from the United States just to ride this train and see the beautiful highlands!
How was the journey?
I have taken this Jacobite Steam train trip a couple of times and it's worth every minute. I have never read a word, or seen any of the Harry Potter films. For me it was passing through beautiful countryside, and the history of the area I found the journey to be captivating, and breathtaking. 💙💙 I know the scene from the Harry Potter films has brought many to share that experience and that's fine too. 👍👍
If I got it right, the locomotive now pulling the Jacobite is not the one used in Harry Potter, because that one is kept on display in WB studio in London. It's still in Hogwarts Express livery :)
No it’s lms black
Yes it's olton hall dressed up as Hogwarts Castle it would be lovely to have the actual locomotive used in the films pulling the Jacobite. Why was it a hall class with castle nameplates instead of an actual GWR castle class locomotive. Was the castle class too heavy for the West Highland line.
Brings back so many memories from childhood! How could I forget how magical of a beginning the Harry Potter series had! The buzz and excitement of seeing the chug of that train brings me back.
The Scottish highlands looks beautiful.
As a rail enthusiast myself, this causes me too much physical pain. I mean, IN HARRY POTTER (at least the film) THE ENGINE USED IS A GWR HALL CLASS. THIS EXCURSION IS HAULED BY AN LMS BLACK 5 LOCOMOTIVE. AND ON THE COVER THERE IS A VERY GOOFY SCHOOLS CLASS *dies of everything possible*
XD I feel your pain
Let people have their fun….
And, of course, you can see the engine so clearly when you're seated in one of the carriages looking at the surroundings... 😂
Thats because warner bros own the locomotive and has it as part of there studio tour. This is the jacobite steam train thats carriages where used for filming.
I feel your pain aswell
...lot of fun watching... thanks Hannah... and I can confirm that it is indeed one of the most amazing train rides you can find anywhere... doing it I fell in love so much with Sco'land, that I now live up here... :)
Wow that area is amazingly beautiful!
Whole Scotland is amazing
If you want to have the tea service it is in first class only and when I tried to book it, it was a year in advance. Even trying for an upgrade on the day of travel wasn’t successful. Although their is a trolley service for the rest of the train. But it was still a wonderful journey through the countryside.
Good to know, THANKS!
thank you for this comment! we are going in september 6 mos from now i immediately got on and ordered our tickets after reading this! we barely got standard class tickets on the day we needed! i would have been crushed to have missed this rail trip! you saved the day. i had no idea it would be nearly sold out already!!
@@ohiogma You travel out on one side of the train going to Mallaig and the other side coming back. So everyone gets to see the view both sides of the journey. I hope you have a great time. I also recommend taking a more leisurely drive by car too.
@@ohiogma You need to check if the Jacobite is still running and if it will be running when you visit, as I believe it has been suspended.
DW Travel... thank you for the ride along... Visuals of Scotland country side phenomenal...The mountains beautiful greenery, blue skys.... Hannah Hummel hope you enjoyed your Whimsical 🪄train ride ..
Wow. It's worth trying. It'll probably be my next trip. Hope this train is still available for travelers 🤔
Look forward to visit it one day for sure!!
Anything from the trolley?! 😁
Of cos everything was fantastic, but the most unique experience on the trip was your infectious smile, miss host...can make any soul 19 times more happy 😊😊
Amazing video.. I wish DW travel continues to produce such videos and entertain us
We will! Greetings!
I love this and everything about it. It was Harry Potter (and Polar Express lol) that ignited my love for trains, specifically steam locomotives and ones where you get your own compartment in the train car. I can imagine getting your private compartment is more pricey than the ones that aren't. I hope I get to visit and ride this train, and visit the stops and surrounding areas one day. I don't know how much longer they'll allow steam locomotives to keep running so hopefully soon!
It is exactly what you have said that is spoiling heritage railway's in the UK, Harry Potter trains do not exist and the Polar Express is a fantasy both ruining the out look of heritage trains and what people expect on these trains and do not get, a compartment on a heritage train in the UK is no more pricey than an open coach. This train has been running for years as one of the only main line operated steam trains in the UK for tourism and has nothing to do with Harry Potter.
@@peterwilliamallen1063 I'm sure not everything will be 100% how I imagine it to be from when I read the books or watched those movies. And even if I don't get that exact experience, I'd still be really happy to just ride on historic trains such as these. Irregardless, none of what you said actually "spoils" heritage railways
Speaking of trains generally, if you have not done so, it is such a treat. At any age, any physical condition, you can't be it, really you can't. If you are the one always driving the car--you miss pretty well all of the scenery; with these big, bay windows you can sit there, really seeing all there is to see, a cup of chowder maybe in your hands. It really is wonderful. Sleepy? Just doze off. A little peckish--they have a buffet car or sometimes full service meals. Cramped? Get up and walk--no one is stopping you. This young woman? Probably her biggest problem would be the boys not leaving her alone. Rail travel is better than ANY form of travel I know. Some I know would argue horseback and if that is your thing, great. But most people--you can't beat rail travel, you just can't.
A big fan of train journeys - that's so nice! We wish you many more beautiful train journeys in your life!
Yes long train journeys are one of the best. You get to experience changing landscape and weather. And you sleep better in a train with the moving rhythm of the train.
Just booked a compartment for my honeymoon! So excited.
How to book the tickets ?
How to book. Can u assist plz
It is not the actual train, altough it does feel that way if you are on board. The actual train is in London on Harry Potter duties:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_4900_Class_5972_Olton_Hall
Still: It is a great experience, can advise anyone to take the trip on the Jacobite!
There is no actual Hogwarts Express, The train used in the movies is a preserved loco that when in service probably done normal Freight and Passenger duties.
Locomotive
Hannah always brightens my day. I love the trains, they really do belong in the countryside like this.
beautiful. Hannah was so happy
That's not the original train, 5972 Olton Hall is a preserved Great Western Railway Hall class locomotive made famous for being depicted to pull the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter film series.
Builder: GWR Swindon Works
Build date: 30 April 1937
You were being pulled by LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45212 is a preserved British steam locomotive. It was built by Armstrong Whitworth at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1935.
THANKS From Romania 🇷🇴
I have two of the Bachman Harry Potter Train Sets in 00 scale . If you are a Harry Potter fan then this is a collector set for you , unopened in the origami sealed wrapping
Nickname for the glenfinnan Viaduct is concrete Bob as it was the first instu concrete bridge
Very interesting, thank you!
Robert Mcalpne who built it was nicknamed concrete Bob, not the viaduct itself
chipperfield, that was a well known circus name. and boy his description of traveling by steam train is so accurate. ahh yes i remember it well. then beaching and cutting corners happened and buggered it all up. profit before people strikes again
Nostalgia.
this is the train that rod stewart talks in the song every beat of my heart?!!!!
@Emerson Borges Wasn't he actually "Sailing" somewhere?? 😉
@@DWTravel maybe yes
I did that trip three times (pre Potter) ,great views. Real good Fish restaurant at Mallaig.
@Robert Drinkall If you'd go there now ( post Potter) they might serve flying fish... Ascendio! 🎓💥🐟
Pre-Potter, wow what was that like?
@@sisigpapi Exactly the same as it is now. It's NOT the "Harry Potter train". It isn't marketed that way at all, it's sold as a scenic steam train ride. The website doesn't even mention Harry Potter.
@@leeosborne3793 I agree. The location and scenery does not need HP to be amazing!
Iv wanted to travel on "The Jacobite" for years but the issue is getting upto Fort William from where I live which is in Southport & the only really viable option is travel on the overnight sleeper which goes directly from Preston to Fort William. The other issue is it's extremely expensive to travel on the sleeper and if I were to go on normal services id need to go to Glasgow Central then make my way to Queen Street where I could then get a service to Fort William. It wouldn't be an out and back trip either as it's way too far to do it in one day and then get back home in the same day. It's also too far to drive as it would be around 200-300 miles driving in total going in one direction.
West Coast Railways I have however travelled with on a number of railtours including their popular "Scarborough Spa Express" trains and if they are run next year "The Pendle Dalesman".
That sounds interesting! Thank you very much for your travel tips!
I've never heard so many excuses in one post.🛤
Hannah , you are lovely and enthusiastic! Love watching you...
And Thank you very much for the travel!
Looks beautiful
I was on this train last week. I was so excited.
How did you booked ?
@@kulwinderkaur6365 travel agency booked for me.
Beautiful scenery
I got first class tickets thinking it would b better i was so wrong . We ended up in a cabin with a family off tourists we were told to move from window seats so the view we had was a door and the family off 4 who were loud and rude . Then on way back was the same only the family needed to have a sleep so if we wanted a view we would need to lean over the tired family . If you do it get the cheap seats you can c both sides of the train
I learned that you can take the Scotrail train as well.
Hannah Hummel makes everything better.
Good job Hannah
Really i love your videos !! Kisses from Brazil
In 2023 i visited and see Jacobite train...
Wonderful
Wow 😲😲😲😲
God bless those wee guys who love Harry Potter.
What a beautiful Scottish lady and her accent is so wonderful ❤❤❤❤
Her accent is not typically Scottish at all, and I say that as a Scottish person who has travelled all over Scotland and lived in more than one location. Also, we don't say 'vacation', we say 'holiday' or 'on holiday'.
Very nice
pretty good.
Sorry it is not the Hogwarts Express and this steam Loco has never been on the screens, it is a totally different steam engine, This is the Jacobite Express and the Loco is an LMS Black Five, the Hogwarts Express Loco is a Great Western Hall class loco.
Yes you're right.
Yep! It always annoys me when people call the Jacobite the Hogwarts Express or the Harry Potter Train
Way to totally miss the point!
@@JetWash944 Miss what point, it is the Jacobite Express Steam Service not the Hogwarts Express.
@@JetWash944 exactly. Petty Pete here just doesn’t get it.
Cuxhaven has some killer chip shops!😎
Wow 👏 😍
Beautiful 😍
My daughter love Harry Potter soso muchand she make the sketch of Harry Potter and Ginny she likes them in their real life also
Brilliant!
Excuse-me, could you tell me please the reference of the book of Harry Potter you were reading in the train? Thanks!
Sure: It's a fully illustrated hardback edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone"! 🚂
Awesome. Caledonian cruise
Platform 9 3/4 here i come.
Your accent got more Scottish got progressively more Scottish.
This answered literally none of the questions I have
Nice
Yes I agree, anything good like scones etc from Scotland.
Oohhh that is awesome!
The reporter face is similiar with the Hermione Granger (the harry Potter actor)
That's my hame.
Shame they are having trouble with the carriages situation. Mark one carriages are now very old . They may need to think about having newer carriages that have the interlocking doors . They may need to do this now to be able to operate this train .
Im going there I guess cus I have a card and it says it’s for the train
How to book this train ticket???
love it from PH
WHY DOES EVERYONE CALL IT THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS TRAIN ITS SIMPLY JUST AN LMS CLASS 5 😭
May I know which month is this journey taken?
As far as we can remember it must have been in September.
❤
Is it a two way train ride? There and back? Or can I stay a few days and order a train back?
It’s two way ticket but you can stay only for 3-4 hours and have to return in the same day. Or you can buy 1 way ticket separate in different days of departure
See the scenery, that is fine if the windows get cleaned.
how to get the ticket of this train
Search for "westcoastrailways" and "jacobite stream train"
.
How much is it and were in Scotland please
Is it operational now, after COVID? How to book tickets for the same?
Yes it is, check westcoastrailways.co.uk for further details.
Its henry
Do I have to sit on the right or on the left to have the best view of the Viaduct like in HP?
And also should I go first class?
Nowadays, The Jacobite actually swaps your seats when you're going out and coming back. So if you were facing backwards on the right side of the train going there, you'll be facing forwards and left on the way back!
Why did you call Loch's lakes?
@Crimson Wizard It certainly is a *Shibboleth*.. 😉
Hannah is super dolce.
"The mountains and the lakes..." there's only one "lake" i Scotland, and it's not in the Highlands. She's been away a long time?
@Janet MacKinnon Okay, okay... *Lochs* - sorry for "havering"😘
Make more RUclips videos with Hannah presenting. Not just tik toks.
We want her to do so 😀!
I 🌹🌹 love 🌷🌷 you ❤️❤️❤️ my friend 💓💓💓💓
As a British Rail fan what annoys me is that people always associate certain things with " Harry Potter", Christ it was a fairy tale film, it may have been made using this line and viaduct, but as I said this is a tourist train on a scheduled service in Scotland and both the Engine and train are not in any way associated with Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express as mich as you would expect Julie Andrews to come dancing over the Alps.
Harry Potter is just very famous.
@@DWTravel So he may be, but fickle Americans then think we live in a land of thatched cottages with straw in our mouths, even the American Christmas films when including an English part think we all talk with a plumb in our mouths. but this train is not the Harry Potter train, for a start the Harry Potter Engine is of a Great Western Design, this one looks nothing like t and is of LMS design and it is a tourist train that runs all summer called the Jacobite Express, when travel companies do this it confuses foreign tourists.
Lol what are you talking about. How it's not associated with Harry Potter when it's the same route as in the films? And the company running The Jacobite provided Warner Bros with the train used as the Hogwarts Express in all movies and allowed them to use the same route. Although it's not the same locomotive, the train it's associated with Harry Potter
@@jorgealvarez9090 Exactly, I don’t know why some people get so worked up and captious about these details. Olton Hall (the “Hogwarts Express” in the firms) used the same route as the Jacobite for the films, is owned by the WCR who runs the Jacobite (who is leasing Olton Hall to Warner Brothers), and the cars used for the movies were the same used by the Jacobite line. 😑 These people need to reevaluate their lives.
@@peterwilliamallen1063
Let them be Pete
The important thing is that they bring
money in ensuring this train's survival
Have you met dumbledore ?
Deffo not the exact same train that was on screen. The loco is completely different for a start
That's because it's not actually anything to do with Harry Potter and has never been marketed as such. It's only certain people who have decided for themselves that it is.
😊❤👍🏻🚂
3:27 screnic viaduct
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
its leviosa not leviosaaa!
😁
Gonna have to put a big electric engine or hydrogen engine in now with cop26 😂 we can all just pretend it's a steam train...sure the imagination is great
What are you on about, these steam loco's will be running as long as they can be repaired cop 26 or not.
Hollywood history? Harry Potter was made in Hollywood? Well, that's certainly a surprise.
No the same steam locomotive as the Hogwarts express
🇵🇹👍🏻🇬🇧
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
You Scottish?
Hannah is Scottish-German.
Where is real hogwarts express
I took my 2 grandkids on this train, they both dressed up in Harry Potter costumes,I was a bit disappointed the company did not do more to emphasis the Harry Potter connection.
I mean thats not the point of the ride, the historical side is way more bigger
It's not a Harry Potter themed train and it never has been. The regular steam services on this line have been running since the 80s. I'm personally glad they HAVEN'T made it into some cheesy Harry Potter experience, you can guarantee the prices would at least double if they did.
It was sold to me as a Harry Potter train experience, I understand the historical significance of this train, but felt it could have been a bit better, there were a lot of kids on the journey dressed as characters from the films,so I don't think I was the only one disappointed.
@@johnwhite8890 Did you buy tickets from a tour operator? The company that actually runs the train has NEVER sold it as anything to do with Harry Potter. Last time I looked they never even mentioned Harry Potter on their website.
@@johnwhite8890 I just checked the website again, it simply mentions that Glenfinnan Viaduct is in the films, and that's it. It's marketed as a scenic steam train ride and nothing to do with Harry Potter. It's only misleading videos like this that make people think it's a "Harry Potter train". Quite apart from anything else, if the company were to tie it in to Harry Potter, they'd have to pay an absolute fortune to license the brand, and they clearly have no need to do that.
Looks like thomas but without a face.
