You’re one amazing lady. For years I’ve been looking at tutorials on RUclips, plus enquiring at my local fabric shop as to why I had trouble using metallic thread. After watching your video, I reduced the tension on my machine, used the correct attachment for metallic thread and hooray 🎉 🎊 🎉 it works perfectly. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.

Warning, some embroidery machines say not to use silicone spray, as it can affect their tension mechanisms. Check your manual before using, you do not want expensive repairs or to void your warranty
Hi Helen, Thanks for your comment. If your machine manual or brand explicitly says no silicone spray, then rather do not use it at all. However the silicone spray is a lubricant for the thread, so the thread will lubricate the tension discs as it passes between them. This is actually valuable for people living in areas with rust problems - as it will prevent the discs from rusting. It is NOT advisable to spray the silicone spray ONTO any part of the machine at all, it should only be applied sparingly onto the reel of metallic thread. I do not use it on any other thread, besides metallic thread - unless it is a thread that I suspect has dried out a little and snaps often. I have used this technique on my metallic threads for more than 30 years and have never experienced any problems at all. I also have my machine serviced once every 2 years by a reputable mechanic, who cleans everywhere including the tension discs, and as I mentioned I have had no problems at all. I would advise that servicing be a common practice, because often some thread manufacturers apply a coating to their threads that comes off and gets deposited between the tension discs and gradually causes a build up. This does lead to tension problems. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines.

Hi Muslimah, generally a firm fabric is best - so something like a cotton twill or denim. Also bear in mind that it is not suitable to embroider with a metallic thread on a garment that will be in contact with the skin - as it will scratch. Hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine
Hi Brenda, Thanks for the question. I used regular Bobbinfill thread on my bobbin. Have a great day. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines www.sewandcraftstepbystep.com

Hi could I use the metallic needle for the entire project?
Hi Muslimah, yes you can😉
Only a pleasure...
On which types of material could metallic thread be used.
