Can I give TWO thumbs up for this tip? Forever and ever I have been told „use THAT specific needles“, „use THIS brand of threads“, „don’t use metallics with this or that sort of stabilizer“ and finally „probably your machine isn’t good enough and can’t cope with metallics“, or simply another way of telling me that I‘m too stupid as in „it must be your own fault if it doesn’t work out“. You’re the first person to give an explanation WHY the thread keeps breaking, and all it took me to understand the reason, was a roll of toilet paper.🤦🏻♀️ I‘m seriously taking into account of suscribing to your webinars, although I fear, I might have language issues. Thanks a million times from Germany 🇩🇪
OMG.. I am subscribing to you!! That's the best advice yet for metallics... After a number of disasters, I finally decided to stop using metallics.. but now, I'm going to give it another go! Thanks!
That's a great idea....thank you. I've used metallic threads and have been fortunate that I've had good success but this tip that I'll be trying will make it better 😃😃
I see this is an old post but a great idea. I suggest using the vertical spool pin with an inverted spool cap on it and sitting the spool on the "bowl" of the spool cap so it spins easily with little drag. A felt spool disc under the spool helps, too. Got this tip from a christopher nejman YT video and it works for me for small to medium spools. The huge spools may need a special spool spinner.
You have another new subscriber and customer thanks to your genius demonstrations of how to avoid kinks and your little invention with a styrofoam cup. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas
INGENIOUS! . My metallic threads would break off in the middle of my sewing project (never at the ends where it wouldn't be noticable!) and now I understand why. Makes sense. Thank you for the tip :-)
Your demonstration using a toilet paper roll of how the thread kinks coming off when it's in a vertical orientation was brilliant! For us visual folks...that was great!
I have a combo machine (home machine) you talk so much about commercial embroidery machines. If you were using a home embroidery machine would you also use an Metallic needle? I would rather not if I didn't have to, not because of the expense but trying to make sure I always have some on hand. Your solution is so simple I can't wait to try it out. I also avoided using all the metallic threads I bought, now I am going to try it again. Thank you very much for sending me the link to this video.
love this but how do we apply to large spools? going to play with it now - with the larger hole on the bottom it there is too much drag - no breaks but the thread doesn't get fed through fast enough. Going to try to add a bearing of sorts - thanks for the idea!!
I know this is an older video, but how does it apply to a single needle machine? I have a Viking Diamond Designer Deluxe and a Janome 9850. The spool holder on both is horizontal. Many years ago when I had the Viking 1+ I purchased a product similar to the attachment available for the Bernina and it went on the front of my machine after the thread went through the tension guide, before going through the needle and I used as couple of drops of lubricant. Using the proper needle also helped with thread breaking.
On your multi-needle, do you still use this cup solution ? If so, do you mount the cup on the thread stand? I've got a solution for my single-needle but haven't tried anything for a multi.
In my opinion, it wouldn’t make much of a difference as poly threads generally have no issues passing through the eye of a needle. Might decrease tensions ever so slightly but no dramatic impact.
Thank you for the great video. I have tried so many different ways of using the metallic and now that I have another machine it doesn't like the metallic so I'm going to give it another try. Do you also use metallic needles? If not, what size do you use?
Thank you for your video. Good tip for making a diy thread holder, however, I am still confused as aren't metallic threads usually cross-wound? and I have read that cross-wound spools should be standing upright in a thread stand on the table so that they unwind from the top?
I use my 10 needle for my embroidery and was wondering how the cup method could be adapted for use with that machine? I'm not sure how one could get the thread to feed straight out from the cup, maybe two cups one inverted to act as a lift/stand?
Chris Vick I have two ten needles side by side, once I actually took the screw driver that came with the machine and stuck it between one of the feet and stand. Then I stuck the spool on the screw driver. Pretty much anything will work as long as it comes off like toilet paper. If you use the cup idea you could even place it on the floor.
I have only had disaster with the glow in the dark thread...I bet this metallic thread solution would be helpful to the glow in the dark thread...I plan to give it a try.
No that wasn’t an issue. On my Mac, when I played video, intro music was playing perfectly than the video itself hat very faint sound and just a noise. The ending music also was playing just fine. But now I am answering you from the iPhone and I see the sound in the video is perfect. Very strange. By the way this was only video I had problem with sound, rest of your videos was playing perfectly so far.
Thank you for the tip, I do wish I didn't have to turn up the volume so much when you're talking compared to the intro music and ending music, the ending music scared me and hurt my ears.

I appreciate all your selfless information ❤
Great tip with visuals. The cup is an awesome idea. Thanks a lot.
Suri Shetty you are most welcome :)
I just found this and used the styrofoam cup tip. I was able to complete the back of a hoodie in gold metallic thread.......Thank you so much!
Where do place your cup for a domestic machine so it maintains the best angle. Thanks great demo
Mind blown! Thank you. Can't wait to start your Digitizing Made Easy Courses!
Thanks. Best tip ever for metallic.

Trying this tip today. Sounds very logical
I LOVE metallics, have used them since I first started!
So great advice!
Excellent demonstration!
Thanks Kokkie :)

That makes things so much easier I want to try this now

my left ear loves this video
Ñormally I avoid metallic thread like the plague. LOVE this tip! Ofcourse I will try it with your great Tip! Holidays are coming.

Great ideas. The best visual help to understand is your use of a roll of toilet paper to demonstrate. Excellent. Thanks.
Our pleasure glad you enjoyed it Suzanne!
gracias desde España¡¡¡
Excellent!
misbordados Thanks for watching :)
Thank you very much it's adorable
What do you do with the very large spools that won't fit in a cup?
V good idea thanks
Good information. I am going to try your idea using the styrofoam cup, metallic thread and pencil. Thanks....
Thank you so much..
How do you use the cup on multi needle machine?
Thank you!! I threw my metallic thread across the room but now I am getting a styrofoam cup and making that spool thing!!
It can definitely be frustrating! Hope this trick works for you :) Thanks for watching!
When running the thread horizontally, does it matter if it spools from the top or bottom? Thank you!!'
On your multi-needle, do you still use this cup solution ? If so, do you mount the cup on the thread stand? I've got a solution for my single-needle but haven't tried anything for a multi.

Well,, would it improve the embroidery with polyester thread?
In my opinion, it wouldn’t make much of a difference as poly threads generally have no issues passing through the eye of a needle. Might decrease tensions ever so slightly but no dramatic impact.
@@EmbroideryLegacy really, thank you for answering me.
Thank you for the great video. I have tried so many different ways of using the metallic and now that I have another machine it doesn't like the metallic so I'm going to give it another try. Do you also use metallic needles? If not, what size do you use?
Might be a silly question, but where do you put the Styrofoam cup with the thread in it- in conjunction to the machine?
Ann Lange: normally by the hand wheel on the side of your machine and follow your normal threading path. Hope that’s helps and explains.
Thank you for your video. Good tip for making a diy thread holder, however, I am still confused as aren't metallic threads usually cross-wound? and I have read that cross-wound spools should be standing upright in a thread stand on the table so that they unwind from the top?
Hi Mo, in my experience metallic thread works best coming off sideways like a roll of toilet paper, so it doesn't twist as it comes off the spool :)
Thank you.

@@EmbroideryLegacy thanks, I'll try that
@@EmbroideryLegacy how do I get this machine. Am in Nigeria
What if the spool of metallic thread is 6-7 inches high?
Mike Harper might need a bucket :)
I ruined my blouse that had gold thread. Patches turned silver. Can I turn the whole blouse silver?
Merci pour l'information. A bientôt sur votre chaîne
What's happened get music at start then no sound.
Thank you so much! Just subscribed. I cringe whenever I have to use metallic thread
Glad it was helpful!
what if you use king size spool the machine is not pulling it to make the spool spin
Such great advice. I'm going to have to try it. I wonder if there is a trick to the glow in the dark thread that is also a problem thread?
I have only had disaster with the glow in the dark thread...I bet this metallic thread solution would be helpful to the glow in the dark thread...I plan to give it a try.
genius
Very plausible. I've never thought so
brilliant a foam cup and pen
There is no sound (
Oxana N you must be muted, check and there is sound :)
