Good evening Laura,Thank you so very, very much for this wonderful guide into using metallic thread. I have had an embroidery machine for over 20 years and i have never ever been able to find out just the things you have been talking about today. My little one is a Brother 3100D and it's big brother 4000D which i got about 10 years ago, with their prices matching their machine number (many years saving for both), but i haven't used them to their full potential because i was a distance away from the dealership, but also lessons were scant to say the least. On the occasions that i have used my embroidery unit i found that the thread kept snapping, which if i had known these tricks perhaps i would have had better success. I will order myself up some new needles and some washaway interfacing. Thank you flower, you have made my night with this wonderful embroidery do's and don'ts. Crafty hugs from Norah, Glenochil, Scotland

Thank you for the tips, they are much appreciated. In the past I have given up using metal threads b/c I couldn't figure out how to keep it from tangling. Well, now I understand the why of it and will retry to do something a little more decorative. Thanks again and blessings to y'all. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for another great video! I'll have to see how I can put the spool on the machine like you did. Is that an attachment to your machine? My machines (a Baby Lock Vesta & Brother Luminaire) they both have the typical vertical & horizontal spool holders. Do you think putting it on the vertical & not threading it through the telescoping thread holder would work?

What type of thread do you use for the bobbin?

  • @suestutzle2779

That was very interesting. I suppose using metallic threads on an overlocker would be a bit tricky? Best to get a matching colour and overlock the edges then metallic for the decoration?

Beautiful motifs, Laura! Say, can a thread net be used with metallic threads? I've found them very useful when embroidering/quilting with the very slick Glide threads to keep them from just unwinding arbitrarily.

Thank you, very informative, but what would you use in your bobbin
I don’t have an embroidery machine but I have quite a few fancy dancy stitches that would look good in metallic
    Thank you again :)

Just a thin embroidery thread that you would use for any of your embroidery

Dear Laura, question re: Mettler elastic threads. I’ve made several coil-style throw rugs from clothesline and from jelly roll fabric and batting. Cupping is a problem, it’s difficult to make the rugs lay flat. I wonder if using the Mettler elastic thread would help?
