This is actually the best part of watching these videos. Seeing their reactions for the first time, watching their minds being torn open by revelation and revolution, first glimpse of Starlight after a lifetime of clouds and gray. Nowadays, we expect musicians of today to perform like the legends of yesteryear but if they can deliver half the Heat and passion all those performers of the past, then they will have succeeded beyond their expectations and that should be more than enough.
Yeah & probably bc the story suggests he’d lost his edge & wasn’t the best anymore so weren’t bothered he was there . Oh and they would’ve known about his father attempting suicide possibly 💜💜
I've been to 8 Prince concerts, one of which was a small venue much like the one in this video. I was probably about 6 ft from the stage watching in complete amazement. (Billy, the guy with the glasses and baseball cap was standing next to me). This song was actually recorded live and then edited later (some parts were removed) to give us the version you're listening to. He was truly a musical genius from the instruments to the lyrics to the arrangements to the vocals. There will never be another. Great reaction!!
I’ve always thought Prince wrote, sang and preformed poetry. He really hits you with all the emotions💜 I feel blessed to have lived through the Prince Era💜 although his music will live on, there just was nothing like hearing his music drop for the first time and running out to get the album 💜
We lost an artistic genius with his passing. Artistic on so many levels. It was always a complete package with his work: Stage set, lighting, wardrobe, arrangements, choreography, strict/set verse opposite improvisational material......all at once. The absolute real deal.
I'm from Minneapolis and I was able to see him a couple times in concert in the early 2000's. He really was a master performer how he keeps his audience engaged with his showmanship and incredible talents. He's like a conductor in an orchestra that also plays along to the music that he wrote, arranged and performed. One of a kind. I loved your genuine and emotionally enthusiastic reaction! Subscribed!
Just discovered your channel. Love you reactions to the Great Prince. Your are absolutely Awesome. Looking forward to more reactions to Prince songs. The rabbit hole goes deep, 40 year of Music, 900 plus songs. Indeed.
So refreshing to watch you enjoying one of my favorite artists of all time. This song made me a fan 37 years ago and I still am. To see how Prince still can reach the hearts of a younger generation is proof how timeless he is. Great reaction.
This man was a genius. As was his music. To see back then, was a privilege. You just don't have this today. Prince, Michael Jackson and George Michael. You won't see their like again.
Well I've seen this movie two or three times I really wouldn't that much into Prince. But I could see what everybody was saying he was a brilliant musician. I take my hat off to him
I really appreciate your assessment of this great brother. Only a professional, trained eye can see the things you see, and I thank you for pointing it all out to us.🌹
We were lucky to be teens in the 80s and go new Prince music all the time. Saw the movie in theaters. Around the World In a Day album and Purple Rain are still my favorite Prince works followed by 1999.
You totally get Prince and how much of an absolute genius he is! Your reaction video and words have deepened my love of Prince's music even more. It's beautiful that he inspired you to write music again. I am privileged because I have seen him live on tour ~ He never does anything the same way twice! I very much enjoyed your vocal warmth in 'Never Give Up'.
Miss Lisa your reaction and analysis of prince is right on point. Do not ever stop making music and let prince guide you. He didn't know it but he turned out to be a teacher that alot of us will be learning from for decades to come. I am a drummer and of course like many others i finally picked up a guitar 4 years ago and I am still learning the craft of structuring a song thanks to THE KING eye call Prince. Your joy for music is bursting through the screen. STAY BEAUTIFUL;)
I have had the privilege of seeing him live 3 times. Best 3 concerts I have ever been to. First time Vanity 6 opened then The Time. Second time Apollonia 6,Shelia E, final time was just Prince.
Honey Chile.......I know ...I know how u feel....Prince has that effect on his fans....his performances are everything, my first time seeing Prince in concert, when he was doing the "Controversy Tour", words can't even describe what I was feeling, I just could not believe what I was seeing, what I was hearing.....that this one individual was doing all of these things at the same time....it was amazing as well as magical......and when he performed "Do Me Baby"......OMG!!!!!!....he was able 2 deliver in such a manner as if we were watching a very passionate love making scene from a Broadway play , and in this play....Prince was the only participant and was giving those passionate moves ,as well as receiving them almost simultaneous.....who does that????... Both my cousin and I looked at each other in total shock and awe.....and we both squealed " Oh My God !!! He is Bad!!!!....That was my first Prince concert and it was not my last, Praise the Lord....."His Royal Badness" knew that he bought the heat, the love and the sounds of passion......and all these years later I still feel the same level of excitement....so I understand how u feel....I have been feeling that way 4 a minute now.....have a beautiful and joyous existence....
This is from the movie Purple Rain. If you watch that movie you will understand about him and his music. He told us everything through his music. His music was like his daily journal as he wrote music everyday. Here he is only 24 but been writing music since he was seven.
Prince is one of the 10 most talented artists ever and you sweet lady have one of the most beautiful smiles I ve ever seen, not to mention your beautiful eyes!! Greetings from Thessaloniki Greece.
First time here. Enjoyed it. Thank you. But, you really need to see the movie to understand his song fully. Fantastic movie. This song will later make you choke away tears. Look forward to more!
I concur.....I saw Prince live 8 times, Controversy tour, 1999 tour, Purple Rain tour twice, the tour of the Love Symbol, the Emancipation tour, the Musicology tour and the Welcome 2 America tour....I had no idea that the Welcome 2 America concert, would be the last time I would ever see Prince perform live......but that's alright ....we were blessed to have had him for his time here on earth.......
If you saw the movie, the song and scene mean more, because you would know that Prince had originally said he was only gonna let the band perform his stuff only, and not use the song that the girls came up with (even though irl, Prince came up with much of it after making Wendy play her guitar chords over and over while his brain was developing something around it - they say they came back the next day and he had the song finished). So that's why Prince had a humble look on his face and the girls were a little surprised that he was going with their song after all - and even they didn't know what it was going to sound like put together.
What you have to understand about this video, is that it is a scene from the movie. There are a few factors for the awkwardness at the beginning. 1) is the fact that earlier in the movie Prince and the band were upstaged by another band. Morris day and the Time. As they were vying to be named performs for that particular venue. So Prince’s character has natural trepidation to going back on stage in front of a crowd that shunned him earlier. That’s why they were all kind of staring at him as he came on stage. 2) throughout most of the movie Prince’s character was in a kind of power struggle with the two Ladies in the band. They wanted more input into the songs and what they performed. however he always shut them down as the leader of the band. By the end of the movie and after some life altering events in his life Prince’s character realizes that he needs to treat them better and recognize their efforts. You can see their shock when he announces that the song was written by them and when his Kisses Wendy on the cheek near the end of the performance
What a brilliant reaction..I know i.m a bit late .Prince for me is the greatest performer..what couldn't he do .I love the emotion you show reacting... because that's what Prince was..pure emotion..what a musician..so sad he is not with us..take care.
Whoever this young woman is she is beautiful and I love her natural look instead of all this fake BBL'S, tattoos and other fake blank these blanks are into these days
Purple Rain and some other songs were played live in the movie, and are exactly the same on the LP. You can hear someone in the audience shouting once, and that's also on the LP.
Fun Fact: this song was recorded live and was completely improvised. The beginning and end were cut down to hide the audience reactions and to cut out certain instrumental parts
You should check out Prince singing Purple Rain while it’s pouring rain in a half time football show. Probably one of the most amazing performances out there.
I was looking for a British reaction to old school American music, since I look up UK rap reactions by Americans. You did it for real, I ditched 4 vids before yours, I was like "yeah she real" . Love from a Pakistani Canadian sista!
the why of the kiss at the end of the song it's because in the movie, Wendy (guitarist) and Lisa (piano) have proposed a demo of purple rain and prince refuses to play titles not written by him, then at the end of the film he accepts, and that's why it is Wendy who plays the intro of Purple Rain and not Prince.
This is from his movie titled Purple Rain. You should watch the movie so you can get the full meaning of the song. You will also enjoy the full performance in the movie😊
Cool reaction. Nice breakdown from an artist and a singer. Before the purple rain movie, Prince did a concert called, "making of the rain " where he debuted music from the movie. On this concert, this was the first time he played purple rain live. That version is the one that actually made the album, which is the one reviewed here. He added the orchestra in the studio. This is the concert: ruclips.net/video/XjZeuBHrBbs/видео.html
Wow, Lisa, this was the best reaction to this performance we've ever seen!! You are obviously a performing professional as you brought so much more to your reaction, and you could not have brought it to a better performance from a truly remarkable performer. The very next scene in the movie was even more amazing for us. Imagine a couple of 72 yr olds from Arizona getting so much pleasure from a super talent like Prince. Thanks so much for doing this one. We also saw your recent reaction to Floor and Troy's acoustic performance of "Hows the Heart" and we a passionate fans of anything Nightwish. Floor recently released her solo cover of "Oblivion" from the movie of the same name. We feel it is her best solo performance yet. We'd love to see your reaction to it and here's the link: ruclips.net/video/zG-ptrlJ4pM/видео.html Also new subscribers so we can enjoy more of your work. Stay safe.
Prince was great, but when one talks of the greatest performer, for me being a young man in the 70s & 80s, Freddie Mercury (Queen) will always be there at the top!
I really wish that people that suggest songs from movie clips would include a bit of contacts. You would understand why he is so apprehensive at the beginning why the crowd seems so quiet and muted and why he goes out of his way to give credit to Lisa and Wendy. The idea that the crowd was just cold for no reason is completely wrong.
Although obviously it wasn’t Wendy & Lisa’s tune in reality….I repurchased PR movie this week I’ve seen the movie probably 100 times or more over the years but the quality is so much better now! Great to see ‘more’ of him so glad I did. I don’t usually focus on his mid 80s stuff bc it’s everywhere & everyone does (radio etc) & I know it so well, but I don’t care anymore as long as I’m watching/listening to him … but please check out all of Princes eras he was the greatest contemporary musician of all time 💜

The most talented artist of his generation, hands down, no debate required.
Shame he is no longer with us, but his memories live on.
RIP Prince
Prince wrote music us men wish we could write ! This song gets to me everytime you can the emotion in his guitar ! 💜💜💜💜💜
I just can't wrap my head around the fact that some people have never heard prince before.I mean how is that possible?
They live under a rock

I’m shocked! Because he’s life to me.

Exactly it's like they've been on another planet this whole time
I love seeing people discovering Prince like I did so many years ago!🥲
Yes, his memory lives on. 💜💔
He was such a bright brilliant light the world got a little colder and smaller when he passed God Bless you Prince
It makes me smile every time I see someone appreciating Prince the way I do. 💜
The video is a scene from the movie. The audience's reaction is from them hearing this song for the first time during filming of the scene.
Yeah & probably bc the story suggests he’d lost his edge & wasn’t the best anymore so weren’t bothered he was there . Oh and they would’ve known about his father attempting suicide possibly 💜💜
He's my favorite artist. One of the greatest guitar players of all time.
His voice still gives me chills what an incredible talent I miss him 🤫
Seen Prince 30+ times live. No one can touch his stage presence. It was like he was playing just for you.
Yes! stadium full of people and his magic made you feel like his was just singing for you! 💜🎸
Prince sings the notes and plays the notes without missing a bit in between the guitar and his expressing voice

Yes his vocal range is 4.5 octaves 👌🏻👌🏻
well its 5+ octaves nearly 6 on his career
