This is actually the best part of watching these videos. Seeing their reactions for the first time, watching their minds being torn open by revelation and revolution, first glimpse of Starlight after a lifetime of clouds and gray.
Nowadays, we expect musicians of today to perform like the legends of yesteryear but if they can deliver half the Heat and passion all those performers of the past, then they will have succeeded beyond their expectations and that should be more than enough.

We lost an artistic genius with his passing. Artistic on so many levels. It was always a complete package with his work: Stage set, lighting, wardrobe, arrangements, choreography, strict/set verse opposite improvisational material......all at once. The absolute real deal.

I'm from Minneapolis and I was able to see him a couple times in concert in the early 2000's. He really was a master performer how he keeps his audience engaged with his showmanship and incredible talents. He's like a conductor in an orchestra that also plays along to the music that he wrote, arranged and performed. One of a kind. I loved your genuine and emotionally enthusiastic reaction! Subscribed!

Well I've seen this movie two or three times I really wouldn't that much into Prince. But I could see what everybody was saying he was a brilliant musician. I take my hat off to him

We were lucky to be teens in the 80s and go new Prince music all the time. Saw the movie in theaters. Around the World In a Day album and Purple Rain are still my favorite Prince works followed by 1999.

I've been to 8 Prince concerts, one of which was a small venue much like the one in this video. I was probably about 6 ft from the stage watching in complete amazement. (Billy, the guy with the glasses and baseball cap was standing next to me). This song was actually recorded live and then edited later (some parts were removed) to give us the version you're listening to. He was truly a musical genius from the instruments to the lyrics to the arrangements to the vocals. There will never be another.

Honey Chile.......I know ...I know how u feel....Prince has that effect on his fans....his performances are everything, my first time seeing Prince in concert, when he was doing the "Controversy Tour", words can't even describe what I was feeling, I just could not believe what I was seeing, what I was hearing.....that this one individual was doing all of these things at the same time....it was amazing as well as magical......and when he performed "Do Me Baby"......OMG!!!!!!....he was able 2 deliver in such a manner as if we were watching a very passionate love making scene from a Broadway play , and in this play....Prince was the only participant and was giving those passionate moves ,as well as receiving them almost simultaneous.....who does that????... Both my cousin and I looked at each other in total shock and awe.....and we both squealed " Oh My God !!! He is Bad!!!!....That was my first Prince concert and it was not my last, Praise the Lord....."His Royal Badness" knew that he bought the heat, the love and the sounds of passion......and all these years later I still feel the same level of excitement....so I understand how u feel....I have been feeling that way 4 a minute now.....have a beautiful and joyous existence....
This is from the movie Purple Rain. If you watch that movie you will understand about him and his music. He told us everything through his music. His music was like his daily journal as he wrote music everyday. Here he is only 24 but been writing music since he was seven.

He didn't know it but he turned out to be a teacher that alot of us will be learning from for decades to come. I am a drummer and of course like many others i finally picked up a guitar 4 years ago and I am still learning the craft of structuring a song thanks to THE KING eye call Prince. I have had the privilege of seeing him live 3 times. Best 3 concerts I have ever been to. First time Vanity 6 opened then The Time. Second time Apollonia 6,Shelia E, final time was just Prince.

I concur.....I saw Prince live 8 times, Controversy tour, 1999 tour, Purple Rain tour twice, the tour of the Love Symbol, the Emancipation tour, the Musicology tour and the Welcome 2 America tour....I had no idea that the Welcome 2 America concert, would be the last time I would ever see Prince perform live......but that's alright ....we were blessed to have had him for his time here on earth.......

If you saw the movie, the song and scene mean more, because you would know that Prince had originally said he was only gonna let the band perform his stuff only, and not use the song that the girls came up with (even though irl, Prince came up with much of it after making Wendy play her guitar chords over and over while his brain was developing something around it - they say they came back the next day and he had the song finished). So that's why Prince had a humble look on his face and the girls were a little surprised that he was going with their song after all - and even they didn't know what it was going to sound like put together.

Purple Rain and some other songs were played live in the movie, and are exactly the same on the LP. You can hear someone in the audience shouting once, and that's also on the LP.

I really wish that people that suggest songs from movie clips would include a bit of contacts. You would understand why he is so apprehensive at the beginning why the crowd seems so quiet and muted and why he goes out of his way to give credit to Lisa and Wendy. The idea that the crowd was just cold for no reason is completely wrong.

Prince was great, but when one talks of the greatest performer, for me being a young man in the 70s & 80s, Freddie Mercury (Queen) will always be there at the top!

Although obviously it wasn’t Wendy & Lisa’s tune in reality….I repurchased PR movie this week I’ve seen the movie probably 100 times or more over the years but the quality is so much better now! Great to see ‘more’ of him so glad I did. I don’t usually focus on his mid 80s stuff bc it’s everywhere & everyone does (radio etc) & I know it so well, but I don’t care anymore as long as I’m watching/listening to him … but please check out all of Princes eras he was the greatest contemporary musician of all time 💜

have proposed a demo of purple rain and prince refuses to play titles not written by him, then at the end of the film he accepts,

If there is one artist that I love to listen to then that would definitely be Prince because I grew up listening to his music since I was in elementary school right up until now because he is such a genius on the mic and writing and performing and I really really love his music forever and I love him as much as I love Michael Jackson who is also a genius in his own right. They are both amazing artists to listen to.
