YAY! I actually own this S5-DAZ PA-38. She is almost as beautiful here as is in the real bitter world. Crab landing was very realistic, can't tell for spins though :)
No way wow. Thankyou for watching, it was a pleasure flying the virtual version of your very own aircraft ❤️
Brings a LOT of memories - about 1978 - primary training. My instructor was an older guy - flew B25’s off the Marianas ! Home plate was Memphis KMEM - solo’ed at West Memphis, AR. We did stall and spin training back then. Try an accelerated stall - turning while pulling up - the top wing will fall first ! Nice crosswind landing ! I did the same things - crab in to flare then kick the opposite rudder to land on the single tire. Well done !!😊 An auto-purchase for me absolutely .
I flew this in real life as well. Rent it every time it is available. Did all that you did and more.
Love to hear these stories James, thankyou so much for watching. Incredible to think how close we can get in a desktop flight sim these days. Best wishes.
I took my PPL checkride last year at the ripe young age of 49 between M01 (Dewitt Spain) and KAWM (West Memphis).
During training, stalls were my nemesis. So, after we’d completed the last one I started grinning like an idiot… because I didn’t need to get the official word. I knew exactly then, that I was getting my ticket. :)
@@tangocharlie9291 Well, I’m pushing 70 and, of course, insurance retires you at that point. That’s why flight simming is so nice for me. I heard that Dewitt Spain will be closing. It had that weird right hand pattern that I often went left anyway ! They chased all the GA stuff off of MEM a long time ago - back when Memphis Aero was there and the Lazy 8 Flying club (started by an old RAF guy). All that’s moved to Olive Branch, MS now. I’m in Union City now. :)
Great video and landing, kudos to you and Just Flight. The sim really has come a long way.
It still amazes me how you can experience something in real life, then replicate in MSFS with a bit of payware and all the details and understanding of what you did and experienced are there 👍🏻
Thankyou so much for your comments :)
Awesome video. Just found your videos and flight sims channel - Love this video and flight rig :) Tomahawk looks fun it that wind :)
Thankyou and welcome aboard, you are most welcome :)
I've been DYING to get a copy of this one! I can't WAIT!!!!
Awesome bird, awesome review and awesome pilot 😉 The Tomahawk is a no-brainer. Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
You are too kind good sir! Great to see you in the chat :)
@@VRFlightSimGuy 😉
Great landing. The Tomahawk is the perfect BBD airfields hopper. First thing I'll do when I get her and then full left or right rudder stall to getinto that spin ;-)
Everything was perfect in this video - except the detail of not selecting this awesome custom radio stack this cute little plane has to offer, but a default GNS530. Have you ever thought about upgrading this VR motion chair to the Nova Eight360 ? The next flatspin would be absolute unhinged and a stomach-emptying new experience. :D
Give the DCS HeatBlur Tomcat a try with your awesome VR gear and powerful computer, the laser-scanned photoreal cockpit is outstanding and visually the best and most realistic cockpit ever created.
And soon Just Flight and BlackSquare are going to release the best and most sophisticated GA planes ever made, this Tomahawk and the Beechcraft Duke series. Truly the new golden age of flight simming, enjoying every single one of these planes is a true honour.
Curious to see how the mixed reality pass through looks like when coupled with the motion compensation on your DOF Reality. Long time viewer. Love your channel and your work.
Thankyou so much. I'm going to make a more dedicated video about this soon.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks a bunch. Looking forward to it. Thinking about how this would be implemented for those with dedicated sim pits (for either of flight and racing sims). Would be a game changer for immersion.
My flight instructor and I did a very similar (practice) departure stall and rolled to inverted just as you did the week the FBO received the aircraft. The instructor over-corrected and the plane rolled the opposite direction also on to its back. Scared the hell out of both of us! Honestly it was the scariest thing I ever did in my flight training.
Wow! That would have scared me too. Thanks for sharing real world stories, always interesting to read!
I can see all of our little private gang owning one of these each and having a brilliant flight together out of Fishburn. Really excited about this one.
Looking good,
Yes to Tomahawk series please!!!
Can’t wait for this! I’ve been doing my real world training in this little baby! Such a fun little aeroplane to fly! Now I can practice procedures/checklists etc in Msfs instead of X-Plane and benefit from the new modern flight dynamics, walkarounds etc! I’ve seen other new videos on it and it looks amazing, but I want to know what it’s like in VR, especially stuff like the walkarounds! Apparently you can also click on the documentation in the center between the seats and a pdf reader pops up. I’ll be able to load my real world checklists in, but I want to know if you can move that popup around in the 3D space, and also if you can get it to show while outside on the walkarounds so I can use the real checklists to do that too? (maybe there’s a way of assigning a key to the popup)
Oh mate, you are in for a REAL treat with this one. I can't stop flying her. Just Flight nailed it! As for the walk around, it works great in VR. There's a few bugs but hopefully that will be ironed out for the final release. See you for the full video late Darren and congrats on starting your training and following your dreams!
When I did my PPL in 2017/18 I was using X-plane 11 for training at home, going over what I'd learned during the day. Was real handy when I was told a day before my checkride that it wasn't going to be in the area I knew (Brno) I had to go to Prague. So I fired up the sim and spend some hours taking notes flying around the target airfield to learn what the local area looked like. That was XP11 with generated scenery, the FS2020 isn't perfect but it's better than what I had back then. Good luck with your training!
This video inspired me to install MSFS again. Haven't played since the very end of 2020. Can't wait to fire it back up. My PC smokes what I had back then too.
They are really trying to set the bar here. This is a very good thing!
These reflections on the rudder eye candy.
Isn't it just! Thanks for watching
I had one of those landings solo irl on a 172. Scary 😱
I soloed one of these in seventy nine. We had three of them and they all had a placard prohibiting spins. We did spin training in a Bellanca Citabria 7ECA.
Hi Steve, thanks for your video. Have been looking forward to the release of the Pa38. Did my ATC flying scholarship in 1979 in Tomahawks at Glamorgan flying club. Anyone else out there do the ‘79 course? Yep we used to spin them! Now in NZ and the club nearby at Motueka has two of them. Cheers Andy
Hey Andy thanks for watching, I'd love to hear your impressions. It will be out very soon now.
There is a headset simulation in the sim itself under general sound settings. It seems to turn itself off every time I shutdown the sim, but I go turn it on before every flight.
Ha, my training was in a tomahawk. I might have to buy this plane.
Many, many memories from my ppl in ZA. Great video. Still wondering why you do not step into resl flying with your skills. A bit of paperwork but with min hours your are good to go.
Thankyou, that's very kind of you to say that. I have managed a few landings with my pilot friend beside me. I really should go for it one of these days.
Awesome set up mate, well jealous! Over something like the Quest 3 setup what adds more in your opinion, the H2 motion platform or the Somnium visuals? If you had to choose Quest 3 and motion platform or Somnium without a platform, what would you go for? Trying to weigh up my own options.
I have q pro and pimax crystal. Get H2. Believe you have good visuals already! Q3 is a great headset
Hey Kevin, thanks mate. I'd go for a high quality PC VR headset first, motion rig second. Although if you are already happy with your Quest Pro and don't yurn for more, a Dof Reality H2 will transform your flying.
Most amazing GA plane, instant buy for me as well. I did receive info you can accidently start the engine when turning the prop and the magneto's are still on inside! Would you try that please but be carefull, nasty accidents can happen that way so don't do that in real life! :-) Love the sounds they are so good.
Absolutely Fantastic but is it SU 15 ready. oh can you open the cowling as well ??
Using SU15 beta in this video :)
@@VRFlightSimGuy cool ok feel better about it then thank you
I dudnt do spins in thus here in NZ back in the 1980s, I think due to the stall strips and no spins allowed anyway. I had previously done spin training in sailplanes. K13. From memory. Laurie. NZ. 😊
I have an issue with the hand prop spin. It’s not realistic. You get resistance from the cylinders in real life and they’ll be hard to push until it reaches max compression then will basically leave your hand as the cylinder reaches the end of the cycle. Hope they model that in an update. Also hoping they include the DG & AH gyro sounds once the engine is shut down and the radio interference from the strobes when they fire.
Hi Steve, you used to post a ton of Varjo Aero content back in the day. How were you recording the footage? The Varjo base software records video excellently, but that's the problem - it only records Video. No sound. I've scoured all corners of the net to no avail.
Question,Do u have VR SETUP software video, from the start. Do I go to mixed reality software or do I start the flight sim first. Do you used lamp house sensor or is vr head set is all you need.
Start headset first, any other software you need, load up the sim, don't jump into VR until you have loaded up the flight. That's what I do anyway :)
If it is like the PA28, the static drains(2) are just in front of the P1 seat on the cockpit wall, near the floor. You find them by feel IRL and need to push them in with two fingers. Most PA28 pilots and many instructors do not know this.
Hello Steve, what seat have you on your rig and did you did some diy ? I Wonder what seat is natively compatible. Tanks a lot.
I'm using my old Secret Labs gaming chair. I had to drill a few extra holes to make it fit :)
can you tell me how you get the external camera view inn VR with MSFS I have no luck
34:50 could you use your fingers to grab the manual?
Pimax light killed this already
Could you tell what kind of "moving sim chair" are you using?
DOF Reality H2. I have lots of content on my channel about it so make sure you are subbed, if you're not already of course. Thanks for watching.
there ia a new king coming to town the pimax super
Im wondering if Somnium is gonna do something like Pimax with Crystal Light, no eye tracking no passthrough just simple high res clear visuals pcvr headset for much lower price.
They are selling it like that, the base model is 1800€, then you pay extra for the features you want.
@@Nobody-Nowhere Is that including tax?
@@HeadsetHistorian No, i dont think so. You can check their site for it. Its not a cheap headset.
@@Nobody-Nowhere If they stick to that pricing I would say they are a bit late at the party but after crystal light announcement I can only say good luck...
It is a stunning model, but fortunately not every rivet and latch is actually in the model. Those are part of the textures normal maps.
It’s not that easy to spin the aircraft you need almost full aileron lock with full opposite rudder. I’ve done many spins in Tomahawks. The modeling on spin characteristics is way too extreme. A normal stall with wings level will not lead to the aircraft spinning. You literally need to hold in full aileron with opposite rudder to keep wings level before you get an incipient spin.
Do you have an apache strap in front of the VR1?
Affirmative, as I don't have the final design yet.
I hope that was not me messaging you when you looked at your phone? 🤣😂
Very possible lol
looked at the specs just seems like another crystal
Good video, but in the real world you can’t land a GA aircraft successfully while maintaining such a crab. It’ll likely turn sharply on contact with runway, very likely scraping a wing tip in a classic ground loop. You need to kick out the crab with rudder just before touching down so that your longitudinal axis is aligned with the runway on touchdown.
Chances are, you won’t time that correctly, and the crosswind will pick you up and cause you to drift sideways across runway heading as you’re holding off. You then need to correct the drift by dropping your upwind wing, and at the same time applying opposite rudder (i.e. crossing controls) to prevent the aircraft from turning into the dropped wing (secondary effect of controls). You are negating the crosswind with a sideslip that exactly balances it, and you maintain that until contact, landing on the upwind main gear, whether tricycle or taildragger.
Landing a small GA plane in a strong gusty wind is probably the most difficult technique that a student pilot has to learn. Now you know why.
I did kick out the crab just before touch down (have a second look) whilst simultaneously correcting the aileron into wind 👍 I have been in light aircraft before with crazy winds like this, although it's not recommended!
@@VRFlightSimGuy Oh, that's fine then. But it's not at all obvious from the video.
What is your motion system please?
DOF Reality H2. I have lots of content on my channel about it so make sure you are subbed, if you're not already of course. Thanks for watching.
Show us half-life Alyx instead with fps vr on + disable Alyx downscaling and show us the rendere resolution per eye .
Thats what the customer wants to see because it will be a big disappointment if we get the hmd and cant use it properly with the 4090 due to fps drops from 90 to 45 fps . Some people are very sensitive to that in vr
“Thats what the customer wants to see…”
Errr no… Thats what YOU want to see! Me? I wanna see the Traumahawk! ✈️
🤔What is this channel called again?

@@VRFlightSimGuy yeah but still if you are one of 8.1 billion people on this freaking planet who is able to test this headset properly then please for gods sake show us other games with fps data and render scale and gpu usage 🤌🙏🙏🙏
