theres something to be said about how scalpers would try and buy up all the rex minifigures, to sell for profit; when rex has been a beloved character since the start of the clone wars, and we're only getting a proper rex minifigure 15 years later.
these "lego investors" (scalpers/resellers) dont care if they ruin your childhood, they just wanna sell cheap plastic for big money.
Couldn't agree more
I believe Lego is doing this now on purpose. And it is a good measure. They did it with the goat, and now with Rex. They tell Lego fans that scalping sets for 1 piece or 1 figure and then reselling the sets without is a no go. The entire price market for this practice needs to crash.
What I want Lego to do in terms of sets is to give us more generic ships with pilots. Like they did with the Interceptor 2 pack. Or the Tie fighter/bomber. But do this for Rebel sets. Getting more "Lukes X wings" just doesn't make a fleet.
Thank goodness there’s someone with common sense in the Lego Star Wars community.
Somebody must have paid 100euro+ for that minifigure alone.
Some did
What gets on my nerves is that some people like a certain youtuber (If you know, you know) says that no one bought the Venator just for Rex, but then turn around and say that people bought it because "Lego said Rex was exclusive to the Venator." THEN THAT MEANS YOU BOUGHT IT FOOR REX! And they don't care about the ones that were taken from the factories and being sold for $200 without the pauldron... the double standard makes me think people WANT Lego to fail.
All that being said, I think this was a great review. I love the "oh yeah there's also a Microfighter". I didn't expect such a shift in tone so it caught me off guard. And I agree that we should have had a minifig scale version way before we got this. (at least then we wouldn't have this stupid controversy) But something tells me that they didn't expect it to show up in bad batch
This whole fiasco over the minifig is ridiculous. I see people saying that if the Microfighter had been released before the Venator, that might have been less "scummy" or more understandable, but I think people would complain all the same. If you were/are buying the Venator solely for a minifig, that is frankly absurd. It's an awesome build and love-letter to Clone Wars fans first and foremost, not some misguided money printer for scalpers. I even saw someone in another review of the Microfighter saying (not word for word, but the basic sentiment), "It would have been better if the MF Rex's prints were 'lower quality'". Wow. There's people out there thinking that Lego, a juggernaut toy seller, should do low-quality prints on one of their best-selling themes just because they bought a pricey set for a minifig they hoped to showboat or scalp online? You could write skits with this material.
I mean, what did they expect to have sold the Rex fig for at the time of the Venator's release? A few hundred? It's honestly embarrassing. It's a different theme I know, but I recently bought Barad-dur (after saving for ages), where Sauron is an exclusive minifigure (for now), but if he were to appear in new, affordable sets such as a Mount Doom battle or the like, I wouldn't complain at all. I personally buy for display and the build experience - I expect good figs too, but I bought Barad-dur primarily because it looked INCREDIBLE, not because it had certain figs.
Even if some Lego sets are designed with adults in mind, at the end of the day, it's a toy. And after seeing my cousin play with his own Rex and Microfighter as a new Star Wars fan, Lego needs to do this more often. Punish scalpers until they get the message. Recycle old fig designs for stuff like this. Remember that they're a toy company, selling toys. Well done Lego is all I can say for this time.
Couldn't agree more, well said!
Well, everyone has their own opinion, and so do I. It annoys me that there are "special" figures behind the USC sets, and it's not just the price, I have money, I bought an ARC 170 new, this year, and more withdrawn set, but I don't have room for such bigger sets, I would like the USC Falcon, but where with him?! And the price of this Rex went for up to $100.. Now the people who bought it are angry, but 99.9% of other Lego Star Wars fans are very happy, like me..
Yeah I agree I don't think super sought after figures should be locked into UCS sets. More obscure characters for hardcore fans? That's chill
I can't agree more strongly with your opinion. There's little I can say without repeating what you said, Lee. All I can say is people lately have too many feelings for non animate objects, it's just a toy.
To be fair, I get pissed at LEGO all the time, but never at the level surrounding this set. It's ultimately made for children ages 6+ haha
The set is great for people who wants captain rex in a cheaper set despite the insane controversy
I would have many issues if I got the UCS Venator. The first being the $650 price tag and the other having no space once it’s built. Did consider buying the loose figure via eBay of Bricklink, but I’m going to buy this set! (Though I do want Yularen as well.) Overall, great review and look forward to your other reviews coming up!
Thank you! And yeah I don't have the Venator yet because of space, but that should change soon
I love the is set cuz I finally get to have a red figure again when my last one was the phase 1. I hate the scalpers cuz my target has the same issue where we’re constantly sold out for the past week. It’s as ridiculous as the at-te when it came out where it was always sold out cuz of Cody
Totally agree with you. Some people rant because the figure same as the one in $650 paywall and even have stupid idea to make it worse like unprinted hands for cheaper set, which can translate same words as "if you not spend $650 you should not get the same figure"
Yeah for sure
Preach man. It is utterly ridiculous the discourse around this set.
Also I DO want this set in playscale
Agreed. And yes, we need a real set for this
I just hope we get a 501st y-wing playset. That last ep of clone wars was iconic.
0:53 how does bro not know who rex is?
I honestly agree you get a cool set that's worth it
For sure!
Same issue
I agree with you but I think it was a little scummy of lego to release the venator with Rex almost a year before releasing this. There would have been zero controversy if they simply released this micro fighter the same time or before releasing the Venator. Overall though glad the scalpers and resellers took a hit from this, the aftermarket prices of figures is easily the worst part of this hobby imo and it’s really great seeing lego release more popular figures with arm printing in really cheap sets.
It's not Lego's fault people bought an expensive Lego set just for a minifigure. Is just not. It's actually not scummy of them to bring an affordable way to get the minifig.
@@7Elwaybronco I agree it’s not their fault, but It’s extremely obvious the order of which they released these sets was to generate as many sales as possible and LEGO 1000% took advantage for the demand for Rex. Like I said it’s still dumb for the people who bought the Venator for the figure only.
Not one person has ever said rex shouldn't come in another set, it's just the fact it's identical. I think you've completely missed what people are actually saying.
I’ve definitely heard people say it shouldn’t come in a different set… and who cares if it’s identical? You want LEGO to release an inferior product on purpose?
@@BrickologyProductions Lego releases inferior products all the time at lower price points. Just look at the UCS pilot Luke VS the one in the mech. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. Again nobody has said the CHARACTER should be exclusive to the Venator. Nobody. But the decked out figure could have been slightly modified for the microfighter.
I agree though, Lego REALLLLLYYY needs to do a playscale Rex's Y-Wing. ❤
2 things: 1, y wings weren’t a thing during the clone wars (if I can remember)
2, where is his second blaster?!
The Y-Wings were a trademark of the clonewars... They took down the Malevolence, took part in every battle across the galazy ect
1. yes, Y-wings were part of the Clone Wars. They appear in a number of episodes.
2. what do you mean? He's holding it right there

So when you’re best arguement is “you’re crazy” or “you’re a crazy person,” then it might be an indication that the other side is right. Prob should focus more on making a point than using adjectives on what a person chose to buy with their money. Especially since you just called this a TOP figure. And the overwhelming majority of LEGO Star Wars fans are obsessed with figures.
I think I very clearly stated my point but okay
The other side is definitely not right. There is a clear argument over this set and the sentiment there are scalpers hurting and that's a win. So there's your point.
Scalpers are crying, fans are smiling. This is amazing 🤍
