Honestly I think the majority of the time people play RLrrllkk. Unlike normal PDs or PDDDs you don’t have to switch leading hands because the kick is handling the last two partials. After reading this comment I might try playing PDDs and moving the kick around, e.g. Klrrll, Rkrrll, Rlkkll, Rlrrkk, and same for inverts, Kllrrl, Rkkrrl, Rllkkl, Rllrrk.

The point is that jazz will eventually teach you this level of fluidity with proper practice and study of the genre. Other genres teach emphasis on different aspects of playing the drums.
I cant believe some of you people. God himself could play a drum solo and some one will find something wrong. " look he is wearing sandals, or Is that a rob he's wearing?. RUclips is not here for all you people who need counseling. Go and see your shrink. Anyway Dave, thanks for the inspiration, you and your sound.----- incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
William st john ...Amen
hehe right? always somebody not happy but a robe and sandals ? I think God has to have updated his wardrobe some by now though right? : )
Dave's playing is so refreshing. My ears get times of hearing the same volume level on all the drums all the time. Depth to his grooves are beautiful! Thanks Dave for all the inspiration.
One of the BEST drummers in the world right here!
Most of this is highly technical and way above my head. But I recognize that this dude is fcukn bananas. And I love the relaxed tempo.
I'm with ya. It's beautiful how he never sacrifices feel for speed.
I'm listening with my STAX ear speakers. Nothing wrong at all. No distortion. Bad hearing or bad equipment at your end. The mics are placed the same on the toms, as you can clearly see.
The King. Numero uno. Incomparably brilliant.
I have been watching Weckl videos since I was 11 years old, and this man has yet to disappoint me ever, musically. Still amazing at 53 years old, always improving and getting better. That's what it is all about.
I want to just know how to paradiddle and incorporate the kick like he does to seamlessly run through the toms to the floors. Hope that makes sense.
Yes. Me too
Hours
Honestly I think the majority of the time people play RLrrllkk. Unlike normal PDs or PDDDs you don’t have to switch leading hands because the kick is handling the last two partials. After reading this comment I might try playing PDDs and moving the kick around, e.g. Klrrll, Rkrrll, Rlkkll, Rlrrkk, and same for inverts, Kllrrl, Rkkrrl, Rllkkl, Rllrrk.
But he also just has the most beautiful and consistent PDDs... that’s most of it lol.. good luck!
4:59 I came
That upwards hit on the crash just to make things clear!!
I've watched this video hundreds of times and that bit always has me needing to change my undies
JamesTorres Oh my god me too! And the camera angle was just fucking perfect. The lick leading up to that where he slams down on the hat is just exceptional
I hear this drum solo a few times a year since 2013. I love it. And today i got aware of the flams he plays with bass drum and toms and how unique they sound (next to many other things, haha). It's actually simple to understand, but play it that easy. And show me one single vid on youtube where just one guy shows this. ;)
That man's touch is not from this earth...MAGIC!!!
Those shells sound like sex.
now this is what real drumming with actual feeling is about. too many ultra fast ultra technical but completely soulless drummers out there.
incredible drumer of century ,melodic, technique, give 's you the bility of inspiration.
I like the solo sounds like Tribal Latin with of lot of cool staff.
God bless you Dave W from romania.(Italy).
In 2010 I meet dave in UDINE Italy Master classe som many awesom things explaned us. Bless you Dave....
I like the way he is able to solo like this and still Fix a cymbal stand and work on the mixer with one hand and not lose one beat. I have been into your drumming for 10yrs and I am still amazed. Meeting Dave would be one bucket list thing scratched off.
melodic drumming.similar to Terry Bozzio...
45 dislikes? Wow....
yea... they are all from metal drummers :D
Amazing Dave! Songo, Songo and Songo. impressing how Dave Weckl with this rithm plays.
Complete class, the drumzz and him are one.
He's playing drums NOT drumming!
I was never able to appreciate Weckl's work, not because he's no good, but just because I was not ready for him. :-) This solo is surely one of the best I've heard, and not only from him! While listening, I was thinking that being a good drummer is being able to make YOUR sound, and this is certainly Weckl's.
Man I’m almost 57 and I have played the drums on and off for years. When I first seen Dave play I realized how much I have to learn!! He’s a very dedicated drummer hands down!!😃👍✌️
That was the most musical, conversational and relatable drum solo I’ve ever heard. All the chops you can hope for without it sounding like someone reading the dictionary. This is a drum solo a non drummer would really like as much as any drummer would.
his time signatures are so complex,im amazed he can repeat this solo again and again
Of all the drummers on earth I am addicted to Weckl. Too god for words and so fluid and musical. My fave drummer ever.
So fuckin relax!!!!
One of my favorite drummers, but this a top 3 drum solo ever for sure!
Deffo.
I agree! How I wish my kit sounded like that! Dave is one of a kind...
