When you get good advice, when you get something that speaks to you, you pay it forward, you pass it along.
- Niecy Nash
Rachel Bloom is the best.
She's cool. I thought she was more comfortale other interviews like the SAG -AFTRA Foundation Conversations....but "Crazy Ex Girlfriend" is an amazing show.
@@nonayobizness I think part of it is how she keeps getting shut down by others (looking at you Gina) Improv is all about yes and, and it seems like she's just getting a bunch of no but's
Good for her for being vulnerable and admitting that she isn't super tough and powerful but has insecurities, despite being beaten down by everyone else!
The most authentic yes ! :)
Niecy Nash is incredible.
please, listen to her gust star on a rupaul and michelle visage's podcast on whatt's the T, totally free on your phone! I honestly was in catharsis listtening to her talk about her life story :D
She's such a treasure
I love how lily treated rachel and gina in this respectively, you can tell by 28 mins she's over gina's rudeness and for the rest of the time actively makes room for rachel to speak, including singling her out when answering a question to allow her to speak on the subject at 43 mins. such fierce protective mumma energy. love it
Rachel is so endearing. Every time I watch her being interviewed my girl crush gets a little deeper.
Ditto for Allison, actually.
"my voice sounds like i need to drink lotion", holy shit i laughed so hard
Why is Gina being like weirdly rude to Rachel in this? She keeps interrupting her and just acting really condescending, while Rachel is clearly trying to be as nice and polite as possible. She's literally being so sweet to everyone and trying to make nice with Gina who keeps shutting her down. Meanwhile Ilana is just complimenting and supporting everyone, so cute.
Mallory probs cause Rachel won the golden globe over her but idk :3

I know im watching this 3 years late but I was rginking the same thing and just had to see if anyone else noticed! Just seriously everytome she opens her mouth gina is just like nope whats wrong with your life that THATS what you think Rachel. And its weird bc gina is usually awesome so I wonder if its a personal thing with the 2 of them.
@@sarahwilliams4092 I had the same impression but I choose to believe it was just that, a weird impression, not really what was happening. They are all lovely ladies.
Jealousy
I adore the moments of bonding between Allison and Rachel.
I thought I liked Gina before this, but it's almost like she's determined to have the moral high ground on everyone here. In a group of people obviously trying to be vulnerable, she's instead talking about how self-actualized she is. It definitely puts her in a different light to me.
Yeah I felt the same!
What I find funny is that I'm fairly self-actualized as well, but that's because I have had cognitive behavioral therapy. I have to self-explore, be self-aware, self-reflect as to manage my symptoms. That said, I do feel like Gina believes that because she might have had some therapy 101 (or anything like that), that's she's already where she needs to be. That she's done growing. I don't actually agree with that.
One thing I learned is that life is always about the process of discovering, reflecting, and exploring. I'm never fully actualized because my illness is not that of being cured but of being managed.
I feel as if with self-actualization, the thing that stands out to me is that one never quite meets their full potential because each day you live gives you new experiences and insights to further increase or decrease your potential.
So just because I'm in a good place right now doesn't mean I always will be. Just because I'm not experiencing the more extremes of my symptoms doesn't mean I won't ever. Because managing can fail if I don't do my due diligence. I have no right to pass judgment or to be critical if I feel other people are not at the "place" where they should be. I should also never forget where I've been and offer sincere sympathy and empathy whenever necessary and as much as possible.
But right I feel like I am hablando pajas. I'm just talking for the sake of talking (or at least I feel like it's being a bit confusing and muddied) and it's running a bit long. Sorry if it makes no sense. It usually does in my own head.
i agree
My thoughts exactly. Her face when Rachel said she wanted Neicy and Illana to be her life coaches was pure jealousy and then she cut Rachel off for no reason to explain how SHE works on herself everyday … it was like, girl nobody asked you ….
@@leibun i think she doesn't just like Rachel. Or shes a Leo
Niecy - wow. So wise, so funny, so GENUINE. None of her commentary was forced. Learned actual life notes from here in this. Great convo from all!
Alexandria Collins I am srsly taking her last advice!!! She was awesome
yeah she really impressed me here- she talked about herself but it came from a place of experience, not arrogance
Her Maya Angelou story. Omg.
LuV her!
She is the full four years of college compressed in minutes of speech.
I wish Ilana had spoken more. She's so charming in person.
Rachel Bloom is one of the best actresses working today
I wish I could hear Allison Janney talk more. She is so effortlessly interesting.
Niecy Nash has the best stories! LOVE HER! AND LOVE GETTING ON!
She is awesome in Scream Queens too!! Niecy is soooo authentic! Love her.
Is it still on?!??!?! don't keep my hopes up :'(
I feel like Gina spotted insecurity in Rachel, and instead of being understanding like the rest of the ladies, is trying to attack her. It's odd.
I wondered about that. It was a weird reaction. She just kept negating Rachel's experience.
Miriam Springett she was interrupted everyone a lot
What’s interesting is this is the second time Gina was at the Roundtable. She was there the previous year when it was Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, Emmy Rossum, Edie Falco, Tracee Ellis Ross and Ellie Klemper. In that session, she was TOTALLY different - in fact, then Gina was more like Rachel, and Emmy Rossum was like Gina. Honestly, I think Gina wanted to stand in conviction and put up strength, but it was always after Rachel and went from strong/sage to a bit cumbersome.
Rachel was being a victim
I'm a huge fan of Rachel Bloom's and was bummed out when Gina Rodriguez didn't let her finish her sentences. I couldn't help but to notice Lily Tomlin at 28:39. Do you think she was smiling at Rachel in sympathy? Or am I just wishing someone else at the roundtable noticed Gina's interruptions!
Gina R, hogs the conversation ,like she's on speed .
I'm also on a Rachel Bloom binge right now!
Nope, you're not the only one.
Yes, I really think Lily was givin stares at Rachel for sure, even before that time.
God, I really started hate this Gina bitch right now 🤬😡😠
Ya I noticed it too. Gina's so rude
I'm obsessed with rachel bloom's ridiculous humour and slight awkward energy. I relate to her so heavily i feel like thats exactly how i'd behave in this situation.
Also them flip flops under the table, gotta have some thing sensible to slip on.
ikr XD
I feel really bad for Rachel in this interview. I had a feeling the comments would already address that because the interview was so hard to watch every time Gina interrupted.
Lily got the "she's wrong, but she's old" laugh from Niecy at the end.
LMAO
couldn't tell if lily hated or loved gina in this, lol
ikr
she acted the same way around Amy Schumer.
Lily definitely was bemused. I seriously doubt there was any respect for Gina's narcissist hubris.
I think she was being sarcastic with her "compliments" and I'm sure Gina went home afterwards and second guessed every "compliment" as well.
Yeah that compliment threw me off from my perception that Tomlin was annoyed
Am I the only one who notices that Rachel is very caring and genuine ? she truly take time to listen and trying hard to understand when someone else talking and there's something about her that shines when she speaks... and I really like the complicity between her and Allison Janney
Gina, you've got two ears, and one mouth for a reason: you're supposed to listen twice as much as you speak. Love Lily Tomlin, and she seems so humble and gracious despite her legendary status.
That's the EXACT quote I was thinking the whole time! Great minds...
keeping this as a life motto thanks 🙏
Would have liked more stuff about Ilana and Rachel being roomies, gotta be some great stories there
Gina talks a big game, but I gotta call BS. She interrupts and attempts to correct Rachel THREE TIMES as Rachel is being honest and vulnerable about her insecurities, and then goes onto speak of the importance of empathy.
when she was talking about empathy is exactly when i paused to come down here and see if someone mentioned the irony lol
slivertoe so true!
She's trying too hard to be inspirational. Chill.
Hey, she's in an Empathy Workshop. Gina is such a role model for enlightened self-empowerment. People should not be judged on how they treat others, instead on how they appear so possessed and willful: girl power!
I KNOW RIGHT. i have never seen any of gina's work and now i never will. what an annoying undermining bitch!! she is sitting at a table with veterans and other actresses/writers more successful than her and yet she is running her mouth like she knows better than everyone else.
Gina is successful and talented and power to her, but it's extremely rude to keep cutting across people and praise yourself and your own confidence when someone is trying to speak about their personal insecurity.
28:33 ".... this past week I've been working on empathy" ahahaaha!!
Lily read Gina over that money comment! As confident as Gina is there is definitely some insecurity/defensiveness there. This interview made my love for Niecy grow stronger.
I LOVE Rachel Bloom. she has such a presence about her and she's THE BEST
Ugh Gina interrrupting Rachel all the time annoyed me so much
This.
Niecy Nash is like a hilarious fairy godmother. I love that woman
Gina says by far the least interesting things, but talks by far the most. -___- She isn't participating in the conversation, she's just directing the conversation back to a place where she can compliment herself.
Very astute.
she's insecure because of the legend's she's surrounded with. dudes don't ever get called out on this.
Rachel Bloom is my new woman crush. I love her!
Let me break this down for you:
Rachel: for a long time I've felt like I don't belong in this industry and I've had a lot of insecurities-
Gina: what you're saying is not valid
Rachel had a lot of interesting things to say- wish Gina didn't cut her off every damn time
She cut people off too
Idk tho... Gina cuts everyone off
The fine line between the type of person who genuinly, naturally captures your attention versus the type who has to jump up and down and scream for people to listen was especially obvious when watching Niecy and Gina. In my opinion.
Every single time Niecy spoke people stopped and listened. It was amazing.
Love Ilana. You can tell that Gina does not like Rachel. She doesn't interrupt anyone but her. Perfect example of immature passive-aggressive mean girl behavior. Yuck.
That’s exactly what Crazy Ex-Girlfriend tries to combat
I thought I was the only one who noticed this
Niecey Nash slaying the table
This roundtable is kind of making me cringe a little, because I love Gina and I've never really seen her take this kind of approach in an interview. I relate a lot to Rachel as well, so part of me wonders if Gina is projecting something onto Rachel since they both went to NYU and their time slightly overlapped. Rachel seemed to remember they were in something together and Gina was a bit dismissive. But the way Gina acts in the panel, cutting her off and directly challenging everything she says? That's what you do when you don't like someone or find them irritating. Gina didn't do that to anyone else at that table. I feel bad for Rachel, because I totally understand what it's like to feel insecure and shy; her points were definitely valid. And while Gina's point about it being cultural can be very true, it's also not the truth every time. I grew up with Caribbean Latino parents similar to Gina's, but I'm awkward and anxious af like Rachel. My parents are very confident people like Gina, but I'm still doing the character work. lol at Gina saying she was working on empathy though. Keep working, girl!
Gina is pushing the "fierce Latina" stereotype. I'm Latina and I say fuck your "fierce" stereotype. I'm a fucking human being above all.
Im late. But yes i agree with you. Im a latina and i am nothing like Gina personality. I felt like rachel kept getting put down. I think it takes a lot of guts to reveal how insecure you are.
@@outdoorminer5533 THIS!! What you said is exactly how I feel. I'm a Latina as well. I would tell her go eff yourself. I've always been a fan, but I'm on Rachel's side here. Not cool how she's treating her. Yep, I know I'm two years late.
@@JaxxStarr81 She thinks being a bully is being assertive. She's such an ass.
Rachel is the best, the most genuine person, and such an amazing comedian. I'm only watching it for her.
I love how Rachel is there and taking the advantage to learn from these other amazing peers of hers. AMAZING.
Gina interrupts Rachel all the time! I love Rachel so much.
She interrupts everybody
Rachel is my queen, I wanted to hop across the table at Gina and scream "well MY mama taught ME not to fucking INTERRUPT." Shit dude.
Nash’s impersonation of her grandmother-“Baby, that’s Lola Falana”-kills me every time!🤣🤣
I wish Ilana spoke more .. I love her
Shikma Lagbas I thought so too.
Exactly. She and Lily were drowned out in this table, given how excellent they are. I like most of the people here though, so no real harm done. Gina needs to check herself though.
FungusMossGnosis yeah, I don't know about Gina at all.. I don't want to say anything bad about her though ..
"My contact" lmao Alison janney is awesome
Anybody else catch that side eye Lily gives Gina at 26:00?
Gina seems to think listening is weakness. So she does not listen.
Lily seemed taken by Rachel. Their interaction was sweet when she looked at her and told her "you feel my pain, I can't see that in your face"
Cannot deal with Gina interrupting Rachel. Let. Her. Talk. Have you been working on empathy???
Lily tomlin knows whats up do you see those glances lmao
Ilana LEGIT saved us all from continuously cringing at the last question.
Ginas "I don't do it for the money I do it for the integrity" line was cringeworthy. I love that Lily blew off her BS PC answer and everyone LOLs. Super awkward and hilarious.
There's nothing more frustrating than a roundtable that is actually full of amazing, smart, funny women who are a joy to listen to, with one major dud. I agree with the consensus here that Gina brought down an otherwise awesome group. I actually don't think Gina was intentionally trying to be mean/hurtful/interrupt or even arrogant, but it's crystal clear that she has a very hard time listening (which is odd, since they say acting is all about listening).
I don't know her age, but maybe she's just really immature. I did LOVE when she talked about Allison's legs and banging body... b/c that was really cool and totally right on. But yeah, for the most part she came off as that annoying person who cannot wait to take whatever is being said and bring it back around to herself. I hope she learns to take it down a notch as she gets older.
"Straighten your back. You bow to no one" wow, just wow
Saw all these comments about Gina cutting off Rachel and thought it was exaggerated but started watching the video. Yeah. It's pretty absurd.
I love Allison and Rachel’s expressions with each other. I’m happy that they are sitting next to each other. They aren’t rude. I love them both.
I am really over Gina speaking over Rachel. It's really annoying when women don't allow other experiences and conversations.
Malinda Petry You know what clinched it for me is that Gina seemed a-okay after when Rachel started referencing things she's said etc. It felt like Rachel understood and accurately figured Gina out and did what she had to because she was probably feeling dragged and so she could get a thought out.
Maybe? Mindy what? Rachel dominated the conversation with nothing to say that was outside of her ego-centered self deprecation. Took her so long to say nothing. I got nothing from anything she said.
@@ChezzaOuttaNowhere I think you mean Gina dominated the conversation with nothing valuable to contribute. Rachel had actual insightful things to say
Around 28:00, they're all looking at Gina like "girl, just stop."
Rachel Bloom is so honest and true to herself. We can feel when a person is real.
Gina's just angry that she knew deep down Rachel was going to be the one to win an Emmy.
Lily and Rachel are both so over Gina by the end (understandability)
I wish I had the same confidence in my work as Niecy has
I feel bad for Rachel. Gina was low-key going in on her :/
I know it sucks. I love them both 😟
Completely agree.
and Gina's comment about working on her character / not being nasty on set (interrupting Rachel) seemed very pointed [at Rachel]
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that.
Same. And Rachel was already admitting to being insecure, so that just pushed the knife in. I appreciate that Gina is empowered, but it's almost like she's getting high on her own supply :/
I suddenly wanna take Jane the Virgin off of my watch list because of Gina's attitude in this
23:46 Rachel's face!!!! I'm dying
Rachel is literally how I am with everything
I need an intervention! I've seen this round-table at least 5 times! I'm at the point where I known what they're gonna say!
I'm going through the same thing now. I've watched 6 times.
CRAZY EX GIRLFRIEND is the MOST ORIGINAL TV SHOW EVER. What a ride...Rachel Bloom completely under-rated. Watching just for her.
Got disapointed at Gina watching this.
Gina Rodriguez seems to exude an extremely confident exterior and Rachel Bloom seems very honest about her insecurities: this could make Rodriguez very uncomfortable and a bit anxious, which only exposes her own humanity. Understandable. No shade to either. They’re both human beings.
exactly!!
perfect statement
Actually that's what I thought it's like seeing a alpha female and a sigma female in a conversation and you could tell who wants to be in charge who wants the attention rather than the other girl is vulnerable and explaining her insecurities. Which I found relatable and I used to be the shy introvert girl who was very insecure about herself and Gina needs to not interject or interrupt her and next time that she goes to like a Roundtable she needs to learn to shut up sometimes. Lol.
Okay but can Gina stop interrupting Rachel
I'm loving all the love for Rachel in here
After seeing this I am not a fan of Gina Rodriguez she seems condescending and rude. Like she is trying to hard. I love Rachel Bloom I just want to give her a huge hug.
I wish I could genuinely try and take all the advice about being confident on this panel but at heart I’m Rachel Bloom before she was famous
I'm so glad Lily READ Gina. She needs to hush. She's so condescending and just plain irritating this whole interview. I really thought I liked her, but she needs to watch this for herself and see how rude she is during the entire interview!
It really made me dislike her. And I like her work on TV shows and talent but as a human being she needs to interject or be rude to people she doesn't know.
no one:
Allison and Rachel being blown away by Nicey’s confidence: 😧😮
I love Gina but she seemed condescending to Rachel plus her constant know it all interrupting got annoying.
...yeah I agree with you
I know i felt like every time I saw Rachel's face after Gina started talking after one of her statements it was a little bit of shock...
Right?
Total upstart behaviour... To mention that she made jane the character is pretty much demeaning the writers and the creator's efforts... She seems very arrogant...And being in the company with such stalwarts from the industry and say knowing it all bullshit... Shut up gina! :P
lycralily She actually triggered all of the narcissistic bs I had to deal with my family. So when Rachel started talking about her insecurities and Gina undermines her. That hit so close to home. That's a really effed thing to do. And the way she did it, like not even validating it. Passing it off as cultural difference?
She wanted to be Niecy Nash but she came across as having to talk over other's experiences (mostly Rachel maybe there's some weird CW thing going there), and having to center another's experience to her own. With Niecy I felt like that came from a place of struggle, life and hard earned wisdom. I feel as if Gina might use the fierce, confident lingo as armor? It didn't come across as fully authentic. I think Niecy really showed how she lives her life in that she pays it forward if she's given great advice, or learns something but is open to learning from others as well. If that makes sense.
Lily Tomlin not giving a fuck is so refreshing.
Gina is so talented and so confident but yeesh, let Rachel get a word in!
I agree...
I wonder if Gina realized Lily cussed her out when she got home
This moderator is awesome cuz she's barely in it - she just lets them talk amongst themselves and moves it along. Better than having a famous moderator I think.
ahhh gina rodriguez is driving me insane!! so rude to interrupt others when they are talking. I love Rachel Bloom!
Love how everyone's dressed in black and Rachel comes out in white from head to toe! heck yes!
Lmfaoooooooo "My voice sounds like it needs lotion!"
It's actually a common myth that people with darker skin don't need sunscreen, but everyone should wear sunscreen because skin is easily damaged by UV bruh
I love Niecey's attitude. What a role model!
12:51 Tears. Niecy Nash is incredible.
how on earth do you write a title like "Ilana Glazer, Gina Rodriguez, Rachel Bloom, & More" for a video with Lily fucking Tomlin in it? WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE. "& More" i am dead
it's a shame Gina is so condescending and rude...
No more Gina on these round tables please. She treats it like her own little show and the others are her supporting actresses. In an arrogant way, not in a confident woman way.
I think most of the participants at this table probably felt the same. They are just too gracious to point out the obvious reality that Gina is a conceited lout.
Watching this over and over again, I feel like I want to have a coffee time with Rachel Bloom, Illana Glazer, and Alison Janney and just talk about everything. They look so comforting in a wise way.
the best part of this is lily tomlin just sitting there smiling and laughing at everyone...
I think Lily was so over Gina lmao
Seeing Lily Tomlin say, "Hey, gurl!" has me in tears! I may actually have to give her show a look!
Ilana 😍
That sunscreen comment was so awkward lol
Yeah...I was waiting for the point...it didn't come
Lily is an old white woman. Just cuz she's talented doesn't mean she isn't corny. She was implying because Niecy is brown skinned, she already has a built-in tan therefore she doesn't need sunblock. She may have meant it has a joke or she's ignorant to the fact that over-exposure to the sun can be bad for ALL skin types. I was cool with her until she said that.
"Lily is an old white woman."
Anyone who begins a statement this way can only be described as a racist. You are a racist. Own it or search your murky soul for a reason why you got to this dejected state.
Only _awkward_ if you cannot get beyond an innocent and funny joke that the "victim" received very well and in stride. Niecy rules, Lily rules. Get over it, you PC bitches.
"Get over it, you PC bitches" yet you're calling someone racist for pointing out that Lily is white
we are all so over Gina, and her faking in front of Niecy Nash.
Ilana's energy is so calm
Everyone is saying that Gina is very condescending to all the women especially Rachel but it’s so nice to see how Rachel is responding as positively as possible. It’s almost as if Rachel understands where Gina is coming from, maybe because Rachel has written about similar ideologies in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; powerful women sometimes wanting to tear down others alike. For instance, the character (Season 1) Valencia has her looks but when someone like Rebecca who is interesting and has presence of intelligence, Valencia has the sub-conscious need to feel important and in result, attempts to sacrifice the other’s self-esteem to build theirs up.
LOVE Rachel Llana, Niecy and Allison's listening skills are not to be skipped over.
Rachel Bloom is a gift
