Don't worry people those boats can take a huge amount of water over the stern. They have scuppers and a strong bilge. It will shed the water extremely fast.
That's what wash away decks are for. All boat like this have drains positioned around the fishing deck to drain the water. Backing up towards the fish helps the angler reel in big fish like Marlin and Sailfish without having to use all their strength reeling and fighting. If you haven't ever hooked a monster from the depths, it can be overwhelming if the captain doesn't know what he's doing.

Catching big fish is a thrill, the boat is not going to sink, it is totally awesome and you have to do what you can to get it onboard then it may kill you with its bill. This is not a movie and when you are buttoned up water does not get into the engines. This is not Jaws with a broke down boat. Congrats if you actually got it on board. Once in a lifetime experience. Awesome.

Does not mean it can take water continuously as it has to be able to drain, but this amount will drain out fine. Hence no one on the deck being worried about it. You can see the step line when they pan right. The water did not even make it high enough to get into the main part of the boat.
Pretty sure it’s actually more advantageous to keep the boat in gear while reeling in a fish, the forward motion from the boat paired with the reeling from the rod tire the fish out more. Oh and you won’t drown.

As long as the hatches on deck are sealed and the water doesn’t get below the deck and the captain stops every 15 sec or do to allow the water to drain they’ll be okay
They are a fishing team. The prize money is definitely worth it in big competitions. Plus a good captain knows his boat, and maintains it well. If there is danger, he would know it.

Obviously comments are from folks who dont understand the process and design of sportfishing voats. The deck is sealed, engine room sealed, big scuppers in cockpit for exactly this. This isnt in anyway going to sink boat.. Theres many capts who push well beyond this and push to far... this isnt one of those😊

Seen boats take on too much water & end up sinking doing this. Conditions were a bit rougher, bigger swells, small whitecaps...not rough just windy conditions
You can basically flood the back of the boat going reverse, and if the engine is strong enough, just gun it forward and the boat will be just fine. The nose rises when the engine goes.
