Today, we'll be looking at some $40 LED lights I bought for my Haas VF5 instead of paying the ~$300 Haas wants to buy them direct. How do they measure up?

My mill came with the LED lights. One quit right at one year old, second one quit just a few months later. Replaced both with the Amazon (LEDMO brand) and been going strong for around 1.5 years. Now I use them all over the shop. Replaced my fluorescents with them too!

Thanks for the Real Machinist review. I looked at amazon a while ago for misc stuff that would be use full to machining, but was not willing to take the risk of buying junk. Another good one to figure out is coolant pump replacement. I have seen several Haas machines with different pump assy. from year to year. The machine VM2 I am running had a Korean mfg. pump defective from day 1, but we kept it going. It has been replaced with and " American " one bought from Haas. I am sure that Haas has a ridiculous mark up, because they have to have income to sustain the prices of their machines. It would be nice to find a replacement assy with a Baldor Motor and High quality sump inlet assy.

Good point. Personally, I've come to find that amazon stuff is better than other online retailers, especially if you get stuff by "prime" resellers. Ebay is a mixed bag, and alibaba is generally total junk.

Like to see what good led spindle lighting is worth purchasing. I told a Haas salesman a long time ago they need that on all machines, but doesn't sound like they followed through.

LE lights has them for 17.99 excluding shipping and they are Ip65 rated so they should hold up

Hello Ian, thanks for the tip on LED lights for your HAAS machine 10 times better.
I called Alana from the HAAS (Sirco Machinery) parts department and they told me they don't supply lights for our TM-2P mill. Shame. Thanks again.
Oh by the way, are you going to there open house in May?

They're not completely coolant proof, don't hose them off every day or you'll be replacing them. Coolant eats through the seals.

Good tip. Does coolant react with silicone? Maybe you could Macgyver the outside areas where the seals are with a 7$ tube of silicone.

Definitely - the stock ones have the same issue! Anytime I hit one with the hose when washing down the machine and I’m out a light for a day

You can use what Haas likes... Sikaflex to go around new purchased lights to be able to shower with coolant. Doesn't last forever, but better.

I replaced my bulbs with corncob bulbs from amazon, way cheaper and way easier, same outcome. I did 2 machines for about $35 total.
