My friend was stalked by her ex, he was arrested and posted bail the next day. He hit her with a baseball bat and broke her clavicle that same day. The judge could not keep him, because he was able to pay bail. Do you people understand now that the judge only has to think you are a threat to the public, or that you are a flight risk. This gives the judge a tremendous amount of power.

The American obsession with vengeance, retribution, and punitive punishment does next to nothing to rehabilitate offenders and reduce the rate of recidivism. Scandinavian prisons have the best success rate at rehabilitating offenders and reducing the rate of recidivism. How is punishment for harming a child, woman, robbing, car jacking, etc.. destruction of property or a life seen as being vindictive?

@@tiftymeIncarnation is what Jesus did when he became man. Incarceration is imprisoning or jailing people. Eliminating cash bail is simply eliminating the incarceration of people who can't afford cash bail prior to their case being adjudicated. It doesn't mean that the arrested individual will not be convicted and sentenced to jail or prison. It just means that they have the possibility of not being incarcerated due to their poverty while their criminal case is adjudicated.

The cash bail system is EVIL. Many innocent people are held in jail for months awaiting trial just because they don't have money.
And cash bail does NOT ensure that the defendant will show up for trial. If 90% of the bail is paid by a bondsman, then HE is the loser.
The defendant has NOTHING to lose, since he will never get back the 10% he paid the bondsman.

@@burna2650 Some U.S. states are attempting to replicate Scandinavian prisons, so U.S. population size and/or the level/amount of crime in the U.S. (vs. Scandinavian countries) is IRRELEVANT! Human beings are human beings everywhere in the world. They're exactly the same. The U.S. doesn't have a unique "species" of human being that is more inherently criminal and therefore more incapable of conversion, reform, and rehabilitation. Human beings are reformed and rehabilitated because of HOW THEY ARE TREATED while imprisoned. Warehousing human beings like animals in cages does NOT teach offenders about their God-given human dignity or their innate capacity for doing good, nor does it encourage them to do good so as to ensure a safer society upon release. Scandinavian prisons have the best success rate at rehabilitating offenders and reducing the rate of recidivism because of their HUMANE TREATMENT of offenders. The American carceral state, on the other hand, is an abject failure. There's more than enough evidence of this for anyone willing to do the relevant research. Do some research! Don't spew irrelevant non-justifications for the failure of the U.S. carceral system. The U.S. epidemic of mass incarceration is not making the U.S. a safer place to live.
In addition, the Second Amendment is literally killing the U.S. 140 people were killed in 28 mass murders between January 1, 2023 and June 30, 2023, the bloodiest year on record since 2006. Only one of these murders did not involve gun violence. Again, do some relevant research, please! If you need more sources of information, let me know.

You see even though an industry is obsolete, Government won’t let it die because its big enough to feed a couple million into their campaign war chests. Thats why we still have health insurance companies instead of a cheaper and livable Universal Medicare run on a tax. Thats why we still have coal mines and coal power plants. Landlords instead of building much cheaper non profit state apartment buildings, or rent to own manufactured house communities, or state owned trailer parks any of which blue collars could live in and actually be able to save money. Government, both state and federal, won’t even do anything about the new problem of corporations buying up millions of single family homes to hold like a stock, and charge top rent like a massive landlord.

I don’t disagree with that decision. As a matter of fact, someone like a drug dealer that has tons of cash laying around can’t get out of jail a lot easier than someone who has virtually no money and charged with a low level felony. Put them on house arrest with an ankle bracelet. If they do anything other than abide by the conditions set forward, they are automatically put in jail with no bond of any kind. These are the people that you elected to think for you, if you don’t like it, do something about it. I would have them reporting every other day to a parole officer in person if necessary. Some of them will wish they were in jail.

Well they’re not walking “free”, they had to pay. And in any case, most of the violent crimes that people are worried about are not committed by “rich people”. Rich people don’t go around carjacking people at gunpoint or have 40 arrests for assault, burglary, battery, etc. So all this whining about some alleged “unfairness” is in relation to a reality that never existed.
