    In the past I never felt I needed spreadsheets, but have recently found them useful. I’ve been using numbers at home for various things, but have very little knowledge of the program; so I really like videos like these. Thanks for the tips Gary!

    Another use for a checkbox is when building a new file using multiple sheets depending on each other and using random numbers to check things updating I make a 1 cell table with a checkbox in it. Every time I need to check links I can just check or uncheck the box. For bigger sheets I'll put 1 on each sheet so I can check from anywhere.

    Thank you for this! It might seem simple, but it really isn't. And perhaps I should've searched the Help function better, but I've been looking for a simple way to track attendance at our Saturday Mentoring sessions for a few weeks. This solves it!

    Great explanation. This is so easy on numbers unlike excel using microsoft 365 on Mac doesn’t easily allow checkboxes. It’s super easy on windows though.

    Checkboxes are very useful in Numbers. Seems I am always using them with a conditional formula, similar to what you described.

    I have this issue with tick boxes affecting cells that they shouldn’t. So I have this table with a tick box in A2 and this formula on A3:
    IF(A2=FALSE, "",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(RANDBETWEEN(2,12),1,addr-type,addr-style,"Table 2")))
    This means if the check box is unticked then A3 displays nothing, but if ticked it will display a random cell from Table 2. So far so good. But then I have basically the same thing set up in the next column; a tick box in B2 and random cell output in B3 using this near-identical formula:
    IF(B2=FALSE, "",INDIRECT(ADDRESS(RANDBETWEEN(2,16),2,addr-type,addr-style,"Table 2)))
    The problem is when I check the tick box in A2 it triggers output in both A3 AND B3. And strangely, if I uncheck the box A3 goes blank as intended by the formula, but B3 retriggers and shows a new random cell.
    The same thing happens with the tick box in B2, i.e. it also affects A3 when it should just affect B3.
    I hope this description is clear. Is there a way I can change the formula so the tick box only affects the one cell that the formula is written in?

      @macmost  Год назад

      If the formula in B3 only references B2, then it shouldn't be affected by A2 at all. Check your formula and very carefully to make sure this is the case.
      However, since your formula is using RANDBETWEEN, note that random numbers are always changing. Checking a box makes all of your formulas recalculate so that all RANDBETWEEN functions will change throughout your document. I think this is what you are encountering.

    I'm not familiar with Numbers although use it. I'm trying to get chapter 6 to work. Cannot. Why is a simple spreadsheet soooooo difficult? I long for the day AI takes over for this and you can just tell it what you want and it'll do it! No need to be a software expert in every field. Job done! I finally managed to follow this only because of the exact letters you typed showing up in the dialogue at the bottom. It's all the little short cuts etc that are so confusing but I got there in the end. Thanks.

    Thanks, Great video! Do you have a video showing how I can get Percentage % only using tick boxes? Example: My spreadsheet has only 2 columns, 1 column (tickboxes) for a win, and the other has a tickbox if I lose. I want to be able to show my win percentage in another box. Can't work it out for the life of me... HELP!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  8 месяцев назад +1

      Do you mean "Checkboxes?" Use COUNIF and COUNTA to count the checkboxes. For instance COUNTIF(B,true) counts the number of checked boxes in column B. COUNTA(B) gives you the number of non-blank cells in B. Then just divide. So COUNTIF(B,true)/COUNTA(B) will divide the number of checked boxes by the number of boxes. Then use cell formatting to make that a percentage instead of a regular number.

    Is there a way to make it so (only one checkbox is allowed to be checked a time)?
    I want it to be like when I check one box (in a certain column) ⇨ all others get unchecked automatically .. is that possible?
    Thanks in advance

    • @macmost
      @macmost  5 месяцев назад +1

      No, there's nothing that can do that for checkboxes. But if you are making a single choice from many, then a Pop-Up Menu cell is probably what you want instead.

    Is there a way to change the color of the checkbox(s)?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 месяца назад +1

      There's no color to the checkbox itself (gray with a black checkmark). But you can change the color of the cell background.

    Can I automatically display true or false depending on the value in another cell?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  11 месяцев назад

      Not with checkboxes. But a simple formula like A1=7 would give you a true or false.

      Probably not using your regular cellular phone connection. I think you can do it with third-party voice communication apps, maybe. Still there are legal issues there.

    How to Insert Date and Time if a Checkbox is Checked in MacBook Pro Numbers?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 месяца назад

      You can't "insert" something like that. In spreadsheets, formulas grab values and display a result. They don't force a value into another cell. But you can use scripting to write data to another cell. Depends on what you want to do, specifically.

    Hello, how can you change the color of the Check?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  5 месяцев назад

      You can't change the color of the "checkbox" I am talking about here. But if you are doing something different, like you just want to show a check when certain conditions are met, then there are a variety of things you can do.

    • @juanlagos2125
      @juanlagos2125 5 месяцев назад

      Hello, I wasn't referring to the box, just the arrow.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  5 месяцев назад

      @@juanlagos2125 Do you mean the check symbol in the box? That's all part of the same thing. You can't change the color of that. If your goal is to indicate something, then you can use any character you like, not just a checkbox as the result of an IF function. Or, you can use conditional highlights. But if your goal is to have a box someone can check and uncheck, then you are stuck with the way it looks unless you want to use text entry instead (like "yes" and "no" or "x" and "")
