- Manson Gibson vs. Changpuek Kiatsongrit
Shoot Boxing - Shoot the Shooto XX
April 26, 1998 | Tokyo, Japan
Junior eagleweight bout with shoot boxing rules. Changpuek was the WMTC World Cruiserweight Champion. Спорт
the Black Bruce Lee, dancing with the best Thai fighter and spinning fearlessly, what a legend !!
unreal with that bladed stance
He was a praying mantis kungfu practitioner. The angles in his fighting show it.
Champuek number 1 in Thailand.
As a Thai person , I really satisfied what did coach said, I mean Muay Thai coach was real clever in this game😂
He would do great in mma he was doing double legs before mma was a thing
Unfortunately not, he didn't really know how to wrestle and often would get sprawled on by non grapplers when he tried to grab a leg in kickboxing matches repeatedly. This was also 6 years after ufc 1 and pride had already done several events
@@monarch1651 he also lost an mma match
@@zerragut2969He was over 40 years old when he had his only MMA match. He was well over his prime, who knows how he would've performed had he tried 20 years earlier
OMG! I was rooting for kiatsongrit because he will face anybody however Manson was too fast for him.
This wasn't a Muay Thai match, but the fact that it's Changpuek sort of exemplifies Gibson's approach to Nak Muay. He refused to engage on the terms of typical Muay Thai. Remain in high gear, fight from a distance, stifle the clinch.
@@mouseboxersclassickickboxing this was shootboxing rules which Is essentially mma without the elbows or ground game (and changpuek wasn't a elbow fighter) so In fact Chang should've had an advantage considering gibson is more of a kickboxer
I don't necessarily agree with that. Gibson was regularly able to stifle the clinch specifically because he was so good at grappling. He didn't really bother with knee strikes or the usual Muay Thai tactics - he just pushed opponents into the ropes and held them until the break, or he'd just pick them up. He was unusually strong for his division, so even someone like Changpuek didn't have an easy way to impose himself.
Did Gibson have a TaeKwonDo background?
Apparently he self-trained in taekwondo and kung fu.
what is Junior-Eagleweight ?
That's what Shoot Boxing called their light heavyweights before the new millennium. The range was 75> kg - 80 kg.
A shoot boxing weight category
@@mouseboxersclassickickboxingShoot boxing’s names for their weightclasses were a bit confusing, I see why he didn’t immediately know what that is, hell I don’t even know all of them
1st round: Patience+Little Side Kicks+maybe 1 Spinning Backfist
2nd Round: Multiple side kicks+more Spinning Backfists+one great punch
3rd Round: TIME TO STOP FUCKING AROUND!!!!
I wonder what happens if full Thai rules?😁
They fought again under Thai rules in 2001 and Changpuek was knocked out in the second round.
Gibson became a muay thai world champion under muay thai rules lol
Should have met Bua Kuaw
They wouldn't have fought. Buakaw was always in a lower weight class.
How would he have fought but kuaw when he fought I'm.a completely different era
Changpuek defeat 2 mega champions of USA,Rick Roufus and Cook Dale. With Manson Gibson😢.
He bet him under thai rules in 2001
ตุกติกหวะ เล่นนอกเกมส์
Manson Gibson was lucky to get away with the decision. Opportunistic back spinning kick at the start of R3. That's why many fighters don't want to touch gloves with him at the beginning of the round. Chanhpeuk gave him a lot of problems with the leg kicks.
I was rooting for Manson, but he was very disrespectful and cheated. The Thai boxer should have thrown an elbow to split his wig when he picked them up illegally like that. He was so disrespectful that by the end of the match I was rooting for the Thai boxer.
It wasn't actually illegal. These were shoot boxing rules, so picking up and throwing your opponent is legal. Ironically, elbows aren't allowed.
@@mouseboxersclassickickboxing oh, I see. Thank you for the clarification.
You're welcome!
