      He was a praying mantis kungfu practitioner. The angles in his fighting show it.

      Unfortunately not, he didn't really know how to wrestle and often would get sprawled on by non grapplers when he tried to grab a leg in kickboxing matches repeatedly. This was also 6 years after ufc 1 and pride had already done several events

      This wasn't a Muay Thai match, but the fact that it's Changpuek sort of exemplifies Gibson's approach to Nak Muay. He refused to engage on the terms of typical Muay Thai. Remain in high gear, fight from a distance, stifle the clinch.

      @@mouseboxersclassickickboxing this was shootboxing rules which Is essentially mma without the elbows or ground game (and changpuek wasn't a elbow fighter) so In fact Chang should've had an advantage considering gibson is more of a kickboxer

    • @mouseboxersclassickickboxing
      @mouseboxersclassickickboxing  9 месяцев назад

      I don't necessarily agree with that. Gibson was regularly able to stifle the clinch specifically because he was so good at grappling. He didn't really bother with knee strikes or the usual Muay Thai tactics - he just pushed opponents into the ropes and held them until the break, or he'd just pick them up. He was unusually strong for his division, so even someone like Changpuek didn't have an easy way to impose himself.

    Manson Gibson was lucky to get away with the decision. Opportunistic back spinning kick at the start of R3. That's why many fighters don't want to touch gloves with him at the beginning of the round. Chanhpeuk gave him a lot of problems with the leg kicks.

    I was rooting for Manson, but he was very disrespectful and cheated. The Thai boxer should have thrown an elbow to split his wig when he picked them up illegally like that. He was so disrespectful that by the end of the match I was rooting for the Thai boxer.

    • @mouseboxersclassickickboxing
      @mouseboxersclassickickboxing  11 месяцев назад +10

      It wasn't actually illegal. These were shoot boxing rules, so picking up and throwing your opponent is legal. Ironically, elbows aren't allowed.
